July Red White & Blue Challenge by Ren-Yi

Our Scrap Our Stash's July Challenge was to use Red, White & Blue. I have been traveling so much for work or burning the midnight oil, that this project completely slipped my mind.

Here is a quick thank you gift for the hostess that I whipped up for a coffee & cake invitation, using the colors set forth by our challenge.

Merci

This is a cute & fast tag to wrap a glass jar of chocolate covered coffee beans. The white card stock is sponged with a little bit of pearlescent blue to take the edge of the stark white color contrast. A bit of fun blue and red baker's twine to tie it all up...

Merci

Meet August Guest Design Team Member Rhonda

Rhonda was chosen to become a Guest Design Team Member for her June Challenge layout.  She said:

I am a stay-at-home mom, but in my "other life" I worked in the advertising, graphic design and visual marketing fields. I started scrapbooking in about 2002, when my son was born, and now this hobby takes over our entire guest bedroom!  I love my Cricut and Thickers and will ink the edge of anything that will sit still.  I also enjoy stamping and card-making for those "need instant gratification" moments.  I cannot neglect to mention my handsome and patient hubby who is very $upportive of my hobby!  Thanks for asking me to be on the August Guest Design Team.

 -Rhonda H

Be sure to check back in tomorrow to see what our August Challenge will be and come back during the month of August to see Rhonda's submission to the challenge.

Meet August Guest Design Team Member Sindi

Please welcome Sindi to our Scrap Our Stash August Guest Design Team.  Sindi's card in the June challenge won her this spot on the August Guest Design Team.  Sindi says:

I  started scrapping when I was pregnant with my son in 2002. Iwandered into a little scrapbooking store and have been completely hooked ever since. Most of my layouts are devoted to my son, althoughI do like to do some heritage scrapping and have recently started cardmaking (which I'm loving!). I live with my hubby and son in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee.

Be sure to check back in during August to see what Sindi and all the others submit for the August Challenge.   You could win a spot on the October Guest Design Team - just by taking the August Challenge.Posted by Picasa

Pagerize Tammy by Faye

Reader Faye submitted this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge #12. She said:

So here is my take on Tammy's page. First you will probably notice the similar background paper.... love argyle!!!!!! You might not see the layout right away but if you were to turn Tammy's layout to the left twice, I think you will see it. As for memorabilia, I included a pin I got from the conference I attended with Mark (who this page is about) and I also added this little paper doll that Mark drew as part of a team builder. Believe it or not this is what he thinks he looks like. I loved it so much, I kept it all this time. This seemed like the best way to show it off. Thanks for the inspiration!!

Hi,
I came across your site and love the idea!
Here is a LO I did yesterday. My sister and I are huge baseball fans. Coincidentally, both the red Sox and the Cubs' colors are red, white and blue. The striped patterned paper I've had for years. It's been waiting for me to use it on a baseball LO. I used sold blue and red behind it to ground it and tie it al together. I knew I wanted to make a banner for this LO. I didn't have enough embellishments, so I printed the flags off the internet and cut them out to make the banner. The brad help move the eys around the page. This LO incorporates another challenge to use something hidden. I hid the journaling under a picture. The baseball journal tag is actually a large sticker. I left the cellophane backing on it, just cut around it instead.
I hope this is enough information. Thank you for looking

Reader Courtney submitted this card for the July Red, White & Blue Challenge.  She said:

This is a quick and fun birthday card I whipped up for my son. I cut the skull and crossbones on my Cricut and all of the paper is scraps from a recent project. It's hard to tell in the picture, but the red background has "happy birthday" stamped all over in watermark ink.
This is a great colour combination, but I use it so rarely. Thanks for the challenge!

Pagerize Tammy by Julie

Reader Julie submitted this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge #12. She said:

The challenge to use some memorabilia on a page reminded me of all the clothing tags I have been collecting for just such a page as this. I decided they would go well with the page I have been planning to do about "Facing 40". The tags (and the clothes they came from) reflect a range of styles - lets call it eclectic! I finished the page with a few random thoughts I have about myself at this age, like "too many lines on my face" and "would rather do craft than housework". Sound familiar?

July Red, White and Blue challenge by Christy

Design Team Member Christy submitted this layout for the July Red, White & Blue Challenge.  She said:

If you had come to me last month and asked me which papers from my stash would be used to scrap our Fourth of July memories, Floral prints would definitely not have been on the list. Yet here they are on this next page! I got the idea from the counterfeit kit club challenge. The idea is to scraplift a kit from a kit club using what you have in your stash. One of the kits I saw had a lot of blue and red  floral papers in them. Since flowers are not always easy to use on a page for boys, I felt this would be a great opportunity to use them. Oh...and would you believe there are travel themed items on the page too!?!? The journal spot and the tab sticker on the corner of the photo are from a travel collections.

page maps sketch
starburst paper- Cosmo Cricket
all other papers Sassafrass
sassafrass border
Prima flowers
foof a la buttons
7 gypsies tab sticker and paper clip
Journal spot unknown( Maybe K and Co.)
Making Memories rub on alphas
hand made denim flowers
Basic grey border stickers cut apart
So the next time you are feeling a little blue about not having the right themed papers in your stash, check out a kit club. It just might give you some ideas to help you rethink how to use products you already own.

This is my take on the Red, White, and Blue July Challenge. The background paper originally had black mickey ears but I used royal blue smooch to change their color. I also managed to get 10 different pictures on the layout!

Hi,

I've attached my layout for this month's challenge. I'm new to this site (I found you through Joni's blog). It looks like a fun place to check in and get my stash used up...or at least make a dent in it. I had a little bit of a hard time finding red, blue and WHITE as all of my 4th of July papers had cream. So I pulled out my Echo Park Dots and Stripes line and just used that. It made it a little bit harder but I'm happy with the end result. Thanks for a fun challenge!

July Red White & Blue Challenge by Joni

Hi everyone..Joni here!!

Somehow for me, Red/White/Blue and Sports really go together...  Apparently Teresa Collins thinks so too, and I used her Sports Edition II line to create this layout using a photo of my son Joseph and his buddy & teammate Isaiah.  They play on the same league basketball team (my husband coaches) and they also go to basketball camp together a couple weeks each year.

I've seen that "loose" twine technique before, but this layout is the first one I've ever tried it..  It's interesting, but not sure I'm sold on it...LOL!!!

Have fun everyone!!

Reader Marie submitted this mini hat box for the July Red, White & Blue Challenge. She said:

I used DCWV's Summer Dream stack to create this. It was inspired by a post from Craft Warehouse's blog. The ribbon from Target's $1 bins. The embellishment in front were just random buttons I had laying around connected with wires. The back had some tulle held by paper flowers.

July Red, White, and Blue Challenge by Missy

Since my oldest son played for the Cubs this spring, this month's challenge was perfect for scrapping this photo!

I cut the strips of paper from scraps from his last baseball layout that I did, plus an old scrap of paper that was from a 4th of July collection. I machine stiched around the edges with some red thread. I used some Cuttlebug embossing folders to make the stars and then just fussy cut around the embossing. The title is cut from the Cricut cartridge, Sans Serif. I added some red staples, and some red and blue brads to finish the page.

July Red, White & Blue Challenge by Sarah

I'm a bit late getting my project in this month, but that worked out for the best...
I was honestly fuddled on the color scheme. My 1st thought was nautical but really had nothing ~pop~ with that. I'm Canadian so our holiday is Red & White hold the Blue. ;O) Then I thought: Because we're still (yes still *le sigh*) renovating the upstairs the 4 boys and I have been pretty much confined to the main floor during the weekdays, resulting in lots of kitchen activities. One of the things I'm teaching them this summer is all about Canning, figured a layout was due! Since I held off doing my page I was able to get some 'fresh' canning (har, har) pictures for this layout.

The checkered paper is 2 6X6 pieces laid beside each other out of a Making Memories 6X6 pack I've had forever, all red white & blue, had no idea what to do with it...
Thank Goodness for Scrap Our Stash!
The 'Blue Ribbon' is cut out with a SLICE, from the same paper pack, then inked and layered. The Center is popped up with some leftover Stampin' Up! Rubber & Foam (from trimmed stamps), then coated in 3D Crystal lacquer to get that 'button' look. The hanging ribbons were free hand cut.
Printed the Journaling off then punched the 'spiral notebook' border on the tops. Also folded each of them and rubbed 2 different browns on to make them look 'used and read'.
Lastly a bit of vintage Ric Rac from the sewing stash.
Result: Country Style Canning Goodness!

Talk about using scraps, I used scraps of papers left over from a card class I did and ribbon I just recently found (amazing what you find when you clean, he he he) I used animal kingdom cricut cartridge for the pups, and plantin schoolbook for the lettering. And that adorable little animal is my dog Teucer (pronounced two-sir) 4 years ago, on the day I got him for Christmas.

Here is my Red, White and Blue Challenge for the month of July. These photos are of my son - his first time on a Jet Ski in Upper Michigan during the 4th of July celebrations (2005) -that we attend yearly. He had so much fun- he didn't want to get off and share ithe Ski with the his cousins. As usual, I was up there again this year and this time my daughter - her fiance- and my other son were with- so I took several pictures of them on the jet ski- cant wait to scrap these pages too. I used papers from Adorn It Creations and many stamps for the starburst in moonlight white, stars by Paper Studio, and banner flags by Hero Arts. Other embellies were ribbon and silver Stickles and pop dots. This is for sure a 4th of July Celebration page with plenty of the red white and blue.

I have attached the layout. I really enjoy your monthly challenges.

Here's a befitting to the challenge layout I recently made about my ds's baseball team from a couple of years ago. I'm trying to finally use those pictures we bought from the league hired photographer. I also used things from my stash on this layout as all of it, from the paper to the embellies, was old. I have so much baseball themed stuff that I've collected over the years. It felt good to lighten the stash a little with this layout.

July Red, White and Blue challenge by Christy

This month's Red, White and Blue challenge was the perfect motivation for me to scrap the photos of my son learning to swim. He participated in the Swim America program and finished up with it a little over a year ago. I've had the photos sitting, printed and grouped by theme begging for me to get them onto pages, but I was never sure of what paper to use. I had even bought swim team themed stickers quite some time ago when I knew he was going into the program. I realized that the small star print paper and borders in my little 6x6 kit of Pink Paislee's home town summer line would go swimmingly with the photos.
I set to work, happily splattering sapphire glimmer mist onto the card stock. After fidgeting with the photos, I settled on a design. However, I was not happy at all with the team photo. My son seemed lost in the large group of children. I wanted some way to highlight him while still having him a part of the group. I chose to use a scrap piece of vellum. I used an craft knife to cut out a little window. It was a wonderful solution to my dilemma.

Please pardon the blurry photo and the covered faces, this was done for privacy
Pink Paislee border and Paper
Sapphire glimmer mist
 7 Gypsies number tags
Jolee's by you stickers-goggles
Making memories snaps
SEI Ink blue ink
Me and mY bug Ideas Stickers

I was very pleased to use up some older Making Memories silver snaps. I used my son's first ribbon as a part of the page while adding some of the sticker's I had been holding onto for so many years. In these photos, my son could not yet swim well, but they allowed him to participate with a coach as a spotter. he raced in the seahorse race(pool noodle) and a paddle board race.
My second page started off with the best of intentions. When I was almost done, I realized I had a big problem. My photos were off-centre.

I chose to draw attention away from that using markers and hand stitching. The off kilter squares sort of hide the off kilter photos and border. It may not be as noticeable here due to the lovely straightening feature of my photo editing software. ;)
We'd love it if you shared some patriotic themed pages and projects with us here at Scrap Our Stash. With all of the wonderful events this month, I am sure you will have plenty of photo ops!

Hello!
My layout for the Red, White and Blue Challenge at Scrap Our Stash is attached. My youngest granddaughter loves the train at our area zoo; in the big photo, she is yelling "All Aboard!" -- hence the title. The papers and rub ons are from Piggy Tales. The design is based on a sketch from Sketch Inspiration.
