Meet Guest Design Team Member Nicky

Hi, my name is Nicky Normandale. I live in Adelaide, South Australia with my darling boyfriend Shannon. I am a proud Aunt of 6 nephews and a very gorgeous niece who is my favourite person to scrap about. I first started scrapping almost 2 years ago now... My sister had a kit that she'd put together and I borrowed it for a few weeks to see what this scrapbooking thing was all about. When I went to return it I told her how hooked I was and that I planned to buy the basics and go to some classes so I too could learn about all the magic that people can create. I was so excited when she said 'Keep it all then, I don't use it so you may as well'. Since then I have been to many classes and learnt so many techniques. And I've gone from a shopping bag full of bits and pieces to a whole room full of goodies for me to scrap in! I love every moment that I get to spend playing in my room and wish I didn't have to work so I could be in there all day..... I scrap because I love capturing the story behind each photo and so that I can tell our story as a family as to what we got up to in our lives. I scrap about anything whether it be a special occassion or just every day life but mostly cherished moments. I love to sit down and look through my albums to remember those beautiful moments and to see how much I've evolved as a scrapper.

I don't really have a style of my own. I like to try anything and adapt with each project. I follow artists like Teresa Collins, Donna Salazar and Tim Hotlz with passion (perhaps it could be classed as borderline stalking!) and am truly inspired by the products and projects that Kaisercraft create - they are also the reason why I started scrapping, a few clicks on their blog and I was hooked! I love all types of scrapping whether it be making layouts, cards, OTP items and I also like to get my Zutter out and make my own books now and then.
Keep creating that magic!**********************************************************************My Memory Box (photos attached)This is one my favourite projects. I made it a short time after my darling Mother passed away in September last year. It was quite an emotional project but I'm glad I did it. I have put all of Mum's jewelry and the special trinkets, cards, etc that she gave me over the years in it along with the DVD of photos and music from her funeral and most importantly, a bottle of her perfume. When i'm really missing her I sit on the bed with the box and go through the bits and pieces while I reminisce about her. And I dab a little of her perfume on my wrist so that I can feel her there with me.

Meet Guest Design Team Member Erin

My name is Erin Blegen, I'm 28 years old and my husband Josh & I have three beautiful children: Wyatt (4), Gunner (18 months), and Aspen (5 months). We live in a small cabin in the woods of Northeastern Minnesota, USA and we love anything outdoors~ hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, swimming, gardening, and taking care of my chickens. But indoors, my passion is most definitely scrapbooking! I first tried it in 2007 when Wyatt was born, completed an album, and then quit until July 2010 when Gunner was born and haven't stopped since! I love experiementing with new techniques, styles, and mediums but would say that my personal style is shabby/chic with a little bit of artsy/messy thrown in :).

I'm very excited to be guest designing this month at Scrap Our Stash! Thanks Kathy for the opportunity!

Feel free to visit my blog, which I share with my sister and best friend, Kelly:

Meet Guest Design Team Member Lynn

Hi everyone!

My name is Lynn Shokoples and I've been around the scrapbook world since the days of paper, pens and scissors, lol. Let's just say that I've grown as a scrapbooker since those first layouts. I live in Canada and am a mom to two wonderful children. Time flies by. I turned around one day and my daughter was getting married and my son was starting university.

When I'm not scrapbooking, I work as a occupational therapy /recreational therapy aide at an Extended Care facility. I feel this is my opportunity to give back to my community. I love to garden, bake, cook, play the piano and sing my heart out. I love dancing and taking long walks, well except when it's -40! My favorite thing to do though is scrapbook. It's my therapy when I'm happy, sad, mad or glad. It's the cure for everything. I love to capture my love of family and friends through this art. It helps me take time to focus on what they mean to me. My family are my biggest fans. I would love for you to stop by my blog, I love to meet new friends and share our journeys through our scrapbooking. Have a wonderful day!

Meet Guest Design Team Member Jean

Hi everyone my name’s Jean and I live in the UK, very near to the centre of England, in Solihull. I gave up work following a car accident when I was 56 and found painting and drawing passed the time during my recovery.
About 5 years ago I discovered paper crafting and scrap booking which has become a passion. I have 3 beautiful granddaughters who are a constant source of joy and material for my scrap booking. My style is a bit of an eclectic mix as I love trying new things. My bedroom is also my craft room and is filled with paper and crafting materials, many of which I‘ve either made or recycled.

I started up a craft club in September 2010 at our local community centre and I love it. I take all my own materials and share a happy couple of hours with 6-8 other ladies who don’t have the funds to buy things. This term I’m helping some of them to draw and paint too. Others are making cards or scrapbooks. My local Arts Centre is now interested in helping with some funding which is very encouraging.

I feel very honoured to be chosen as Guest Designer for February 2012. My NEW project, “Angels Meet“, was instigated when I had an Angel Tag from a Bloggy Friend at Christmas. I added the tag to a small wooden house which was NEW and decorated the rooms with different Angels and Angel quotes. The largest Angel in the recess, I made by covering a dolly peg with a hand cut out robe and wings in gold paper. I added a ruff and a halo in cream paper and drew a face on the top of the peg. I also added glass mosaic tiles behind which I’d never used before. It now lives on my bedroom wall.
Hope you like it. You can see more of my work at my Blog www.apaintaholicsprogress.blogspot.com

January NEW Challenge by Jean

Guest Design Team Member Jean submitted this tag for the January NEW Challenge.  She said:

This is a double tag I made for a New Year’s Message to a dear friend. Made from white card folded into a 6 x 3 inch double tag. The papers are from a cheap but pretty pack of coloured tissues from a local pound shop, I cut diagonally to fit the card. I made the angel by drawing around a stencil of a Christmas angel onto the tissue paper and cut 2.   I used double sided tape to attach it to a plastic straw, (firm sort) cut to size, sandwiching the straw between the 2 angels. I wound ribbon cord at the top of the angel, twisted it across the front and glued it at the base. A computer printed angel quote finished it off. The reverse side was built up the same with another angel quote added. The same corded ribbon finished the tag with some pearl beads threaded through the same hole.

Thank you for looking.

I homeschool my son and one of our favourite subjects is science. I tend to hoard science kits like I hoard scrapbook supplies. So my son and I made a commitment to not bring any more home until we used some kits up. This kicked off some good fun in our home, though I must admit, some of those kits were duds. As in...duds, not working, it's a no go. This was one such kit. Maybe the citrus was too old to conduct a charge.( we live on an island and it's shipped in). Maybe we had the wrong kind of penny or paper clip. Who knows!?!? We never got the light to come on using oranges and lemons as batteries. We still  had a great time and managed to learn about electricity. I took a bunch of photos for me to scrap which meant I not only used up a science kit, I used up stash too. It was a win-win all around.
Can you tell what's new on my page? Probably not. No hard feelings about that. It's hard to tell unless you know. I got Adobe Photoshop elements 10. I must say that it has helped me out quite a bit in the "having better photos" category. I still need to learn to take better pictures, but at least the ones I have look a tad better. I also used a large photo on my page thanks to the Cathy Zielske Design your life class at Big picture Classes. It's not something I would normally do. There is one other new thing on my page...I finally got around to weaving.
Initially, I had just stitched boxes on the right hand page to even out the design. After stitching the boxes, I thought it needed a bit more than just a plain box with mist droplets in it. I was, sadly, too lazy to stitch a whole pattern inside the box. If I had planned things out, I would have evenly aligned the holes to make the weaving easier. So the weaving is a bit uneven. No matter, it turned out to look pretty interesting. I added some punched stars with a bit of glossy accents and ended up with some nice texture on my page. Here is a close up:

I wove the threads at random through various strands of the thread. It created this lovely pattern through the block. Proof positive that trying something new can yield a wonderful result.

So now it's your turn. Try a new tool, a new technique...anything new will do. Then share it with us at Scrap Our Stash!

January NEW Challenge by Elizabeth

Design Team Member Elizabeth submitted this layout for the January NEW Challenge.  She said:

After pondering on this month’s challenge theme for anything to fit the concept of NEW, I decided to go the whole hog and I have used some of a new scrapbooking kit to make a layout of photographs of new Christmas stash received. It’s really lovely to be given so many super presents, so it seems fitting to keep a record like this. This year I’ve vowed to use only what is already here in my craft room – there’s tons anyway – and apart from absolute essentials, e.g. glue gel, DS tape, etc., I will not succumb to temptation!!! So, most of the materials have been taken from the kit, the rest came from my stash.

Apparently, teal and pink are going to be the in colours this year ... however, I'm not that keen on pink so teamed the gold with the teal - actually it's a Core'dinations cardstock called Mediterranean - beautiful colour! I briefly considered scrunching it up and then sanding but changed my mind and instead streaked it with a pale green paint dabber, stamped flowers and dragonflies, also using the green dabber, then dotted some bees using a gold ink pad. I've only recently discovered metallic ink pads – I can’t think why!

The two design papers were cut using two sets of Kiwi Lane Designs templates. I don't think these templates can be bought in the UK, certainly I've not seen anyone else using them, but I'm a fan. They are simple and easy to use and I like the undulating affect.

This gold flower in the centre of the arrangement was made by cutting out 4 different sized circles of fabric ... in this case it was white with a small print. The next step was to spritz the pieces with water and scrunch them up. I left them for a little while to partly dry, spritzed again, this time with a water/gold mica powder mix, and allowed to dry naturally. To complete I glued each layer with a tiny amount of glue gel and added a gold pearl to the centre.

Thanks for looking,
Elizabeth

January NEW challenge by Debbie B.

Reader Debbie B. submitted this layout for the January New Challenge. She said:

Here is a layout I did for the "New" Challenge- I used only cardstock and no photos- instead I scrapped a poem that my daughter wrote- which both of these technigues are new to me- I was really stepping out of the box on this page. I used all cardstock and either embossed the sun & clouds, misted the masked stars, chalked the rainbow and drew some birds on the page. This will be a treasured page of my daughter for sure- it was a poem she wrote the night my father (her grandfather) passed away and I have saved it- so I thought I would put it into her scrapbook for wonderful memories.

Great Challenge. I have tried 2 new things so far this month but I do not know if I can enter 2 LOs. I like your blog and am going to try to participate more often.

I have never masked over a stamp before I use this journal stamp all the time, but this time, I needed it to be blank in the middle. I couldn't remember exactly how to do it, but I figured it out and it turned out ok! I used it at the top to list some of the expressions my son has on his face. I used half of the journal spot at the far right edge of the LO to continue and finish the title.
Here is the link to my blog post in case you have any problems: http://mycreativeview.blogspot.com/2012/01/been-busy-creating.html

January New Challenge by Ren-Yi

Design Team Member Ren-Yi submitted this project for the January NEW Challenge.  She said:

This month at Scrap our Stash we're doing something New for January. For the details hop over to this post. This year I did something completely new, I threw myself a huge birthday party. With all this Project 30 talk on my blog, I want to share something new I did - party favors. Project 30 Party Favors
Since Project 30 was very food centric, I was trying to find the perfect party favor, when I stumbled upon this Bambu Pot Scraper at Crate & Barrel. I bought one and tested it at home and have been in love with it. I use it on all my pots & pans, or pyrex dishes, and it works like magic. It doesn't scratch anything up, so it's the perfect kitchen must-have tool. Project 30 Party Favors
At $1 a piece, it's quite the thrifty party favor too. I added a fun little wrap around it. Cut each pattern paper down to, border punched with Upper Crest and stamped on "thank so much."
Project 30 Party Favors
Easy peasy, lemon squeezy... Check out the Scrap Our Stash's January Challenge. You have until the end of the month to get your inspirations in. What new things have you been up to?

Pagerize Tamara by Debbie P

What a classic design Tamara's Pagerize #18 layout has. I went with a smaller canvas, so I had to resize many of the design elements. The layout is so adaptable and I just love it. I will keep her layout in my scrapbook inspriation file so I can use it again.
Thanks
Tamara!

Each Month on the 15th, we post a new layout for you to "pagerize" (Plagerize, copy, lift, steal) whatever term you want to use. The idea will be- to use the posted layout as your inspriation to create your own layout. You can "pagerize"as much or as little of the original layout as you choose. you may want to make a layout like the one just posted-or you may just want to use something about the layout as your inspiration.

Once you've completed your layout-email a picture and a brief description to scrappingpsyhco@live.com

All entries will be posted here at Scrap our Stash. this challenge runs through midnight central time on February 12th. The pagerizer ( in this case, Tamara), will then choose a winner from all of the entries. The winner will be announced on February 14th. then the winner will be asked to submit a layout for us to "pagerize" starting on the 15th of February.

Attached is my entry for the January New Challenge.  These papers are from Echo Park and I just got them for all my scrapping in the new year. I love them! I've never worked with Echo Park before, so this is a new brand to me. The couple in the picture is my brother-in-law and his wife and they are still sort of newlyweds. I'm giving this to my sister-in-law for her birthday in April, so this will be something new for them to add to their home.

January NEW challenge by Ange

Design Team Member Ange submitted this layout for the January NEW challenge. She said:

I chose to go with newly printed photos, some new supplies my awesome daughter got me for Christmas and to use some punches in a new way. So the cute white card stock, green patterned paper, green with white polka dot ribbon and stickers in the bottom right corner were all picked out by my dear daughter. Everything else is much older stuff from my stash. The photos are from this year's tree assembly production. I used a border punch to make the red 'ribbon' look for the bottom strip. Then took the little curls that were punched out and added them around the circle. I also used a glaze pen I've had for quite some time, but haven't done much with. Looks really great in person, but hard to see here. :) Lots of sparkly fun tho!

January New Challenge by Haley

Design Team Member Haley submitted this layout for the January New Challenge. She said:

My January submission is a layout of my daughters modeling their NEW clothes. I used a NEW layout sketch from Close To My Heart, along with NEW papers (called Stella) and a NEW stamp set called Fashionista. It was really fun to memorialize their NEW duds with NEW products! (I also have close up pictures on my blog.)
Happy scrapping!

Hi
I have another layout to share with you. This is for January’s NEW Challenge. It’s my first attempt at a digital page, definitely something NEW for me.

However I didn’t find it particularly fulfilling – and I’ll be returning to my paper and sticky tape very soon.

Regards,

Amanda
