October Challenge

Reader Jeanette submitted this layout for the October THAT Project Challenge. She said, these were pictures she had been wanting to scrap for a while. Here is her description. From 2004 thru 2007, My husband and I traveled the US and parts
of Canada in our RV. Yep, we sold our home in Reno, NV, and took off to fulfill one of my dreams. I love to travel. I must say that being a full timer in an RV was the way to go for me. It was just wonderful.
This is my first ever page about my RVing life.

In the Beginning.
This was my home on wheels....a 2004, Southwind with 3 slide outs.
You would be surprised at how comfy we were.

Now it's your turn to take the October THAT Project Challenge. See all the details below in the October Challenge post.

Pagerize Joni by Denise

When I saw Joni's page on the Pagerize This Challenge, I couldn't wait to get started. I just loved the layout of her page. I had so much fun pulling out ALL kinds of stash to use on my layout. I used a mask and glimmer mist in the top left corner. I used many different inks on my tag and pulled out an old background stamp to decorate it. I've had the vellum quote for over a year so I was happy to pull it out and use it on the tag as well. I wrapped it around the tag and attached it on the back, so no adhesive would show.
I used something else on my layout that I haven't used in AGES. Chalks! The butterfly at the top of the page was originally white, so I chalked it up and used my IRock to adhere a couple of gems to it. I also chalked up the Tattered Angels letters SWEET which were originally cream color.
Finally I added a little sparkle (because I alway have to have some kind of sparkle on my pages) but added some copper Stickles to the Basic Grey paper and prima flowers.

Now it's your turn to take the Pagerize This Challenge. See all the details in the Pagerize This Challenge below.

Pagerize This Challenge

Rockin' Surfer by Joni is our 2nd Page to be "pagerized" in our  "Pagerizie This" Challenge.
Each month on the 15th we will post a new layout for you to "pagerize" (plagerize, copy, lift, steal) whatever term you want to use. The idea will be - to use the posted layout as your inspiration to create your own layout. You can "pagerize" as much or as little of the original layout as you choose. You may want to make a layout just like the one posted - or you may just want to use something about the layout as your inspiration. It's totally up to you.
Once you've completed your layout - email a picture and brief description to scrappinpsycho@live.com. All entries will be posted here at Scrap Our Stash.  The challenge runs through midnight central time on October 12th.  The "Pagerizer" (in this case Joni), will then choose a winner from all the entries.  The winner will be announced on October 13th. Then the winner will be asked to submit a layout for us to "Pagerize" starting on the 15th of October. Then on the 12th of November - the winner will be chosen by the winner of the "Pagerize This Challenge #3" and on and on it goes.

So your challenge - if you choose to accept it - is to use Joni's layout as your inspiration.

Winner Joni says:

"First let me say how honored I am to be amongst such great talent here on the SOS blog!!!  You guys ROCK!!!  So, I have a fun little layout for you to PAGERIZE....

This polka dot paper is Lily Bee and the Die Cut paper is Sasafrass Mix & Mend.
I used half of a die cut paper and painted the opposite side to give my photo a place to "rest" and tone down some of the print.
I Layered 3 different Bazzill Just the Edge borders.  Some fun little embellie clusters at the end of my borders.  My son came up with the title since he's ON a ROCK....funny little 6 year old!!...but BRILLANT, I thought!

So, use the design, colors, black & white photo, borders, ocean theme.....whatever inspires you from this fun little layout!!!  I can't wait to see what you come up with"!!

This challenge is in addition to the regular monthly challenge.

Pagerize Joni by Karen Williams

Posted by PicasaReader Karen Williams submitted her layout "The Boy with the Beautiful Eyes" for the Pagerize This Challenge.  She said,  "I loved this LO and tried my best to emulate the original. I took from the original the scalloped paper and the single photo. I tried the paint but failed! The photo is covering up the paint disaster!"

It's not too late for you to take the Pagerize This Challenge - see all the details below.

$$Frugal Friday Tips$$ - Happy Accidents! by Joni

This tip/lesson sponsored by Design Team Member Joni (Momma) Parker, and her 7 year old son, Joseph.

Ever do something UNINTENTIONALLY on your layout and then it ends up being really cool???  I do that all the time.....I call them HAPPY ACCIDENTS.  With this mindset, I've freed up myself to "let" something happen and if I don't like it...well, that's part of the creative process...but sometimes that little bit of "freedom" allows something great to happen.

Ok, so I don't have my own example to share...but I thought about this lesson tonight as my son Joseph was finishing his "REPTILES" layout.

He had the Patterned Paper, photos, the stitching and the TITLE already on the layout.  He wanted to fill that space between the top photo and the stitched swirl (yes he did that by himself).  So, he found a piece of chipboard and painted it green.  But as he was painting, he got a little paint on the layout.  So he added even more paint to his layout.  Then he got some paint on his REPTILE letters (they are Textured, important later).

He got upset and tried to wipe the paint off the letter (it was the P, I think)....then he said "Hey, when I wipe off the paint it looks like reptiles scales"......  YEP!!!  Happy Accident...and he went on to paint and wipe off his entire title.

What kind of mishap experience have you had? We'd love to see the Happy Accidents you've had - and how you saved it from being an accident - How much more frugal can you be - then to rescue a page from destruction.  Submit a picture of your sample along with a description to scrappinpsycho@live.com .  All submissions will be posted here.
Do you have a frugal tip to share?  Submit it as mentioned above - you could be featured as a future Scrap Our Stash Frugal Friday Tip!

Pagerize Joni - by Christy

Here is  Design Team Member Christy's take on Joni's Pagerize This Challenge.   She said, "when I saw Joni's layout, the first thing I noticed was all of the wonderful paint. I love the look of it on a page. I loved her bold color and the way your eyes were drawn to the photo in the center. I chose also to use paint...though I was not as bold as she was. This is a page about a cup of cocoa. As silly as it is, my DS has always referred to hot cocoa as " a cup of Co". I realized I had never documented this cute saying of his when he asked me for a cup on a recent rainy day. He's 10 now, so there probably are not too many more years with cups of "co" in my future.

I used the white paint around the edges of the brown card stock because it reminded me of the frothy cocoa. I chose this October Afternoon paper because the browns reminded me of the cocoa while the blues were like the color of the rainy day in the photo. To get more out of my double sided patterned paper, I cut a window out of the center and glued a scrap piece of brown cardstock to the back.

I was then able to use some scraps with the polka dot pattern to create faux ribbon. I have some of the paper left over to use on the 2nd page when I come back to it later.
Now it's your turn to take the Pagerize This Challenge - see all the details below.

October Challenge by Karen Williams

Reader Karen Williams submitted her layout "The gathering storm" for the October THAT Project Challenge.  She said, "when my Nan went into the hospital it was soon clear she wasn't coming home.  She was paralysed by the tumour on her spine and they could do nothing about it. It got harder to get her out of bed and outside the hospital.  I remember one day in August when we managed to get her outside into the hospital garden. We could hear the storm approaching, the sky darkening and the rain coming. We wanted to take her back in, But she made us wait until it rained. She wanted to feel it on her face for one last time.

October Challenge by Karen

Posted by Picasa
Guest Design Team Member Karen submitted this layout for the October THAT Project Challenge.  She said, "In 2007, on the way home from a week-long driving vacation, I asked my husband to make a slight detour to visit the country town where my grandparents used to live. We sought out the cemetery and located their gravestones. I took some photographs, knowing that I may never visit again. The actual grave markers don't hold a lot of significance for me; I believe that once we pass on, our souls move to a better place. Memories live in our hearts and minds, not at a graveside. But somehow I thought it was important to visit and also to show my daughter the location of my grandparents' final resting place. So, I've had these photographs on my hard-drive for almost three years, not really knowing whether to scrap them or how to go about it. This challenge motivated me to print them out, and get them on a page. Because I didn't feel any deep emotional response to the visit, I also had no real compulsion to record the experience - so I kept the journalling factual.

As for "scrapping our stash" - I used a 6x6 sheet of Basic Grey 'Motifica' paperpad that has been in my collection for years and years, a journalling page fromMaking Memories, and a small strip of Cosmo Cricket from last year's 'Nutmeg'line. My scrapping tip: Dress up older papers by adding an interesting personal touch! I added some hand stitching to make the paper pop from the page, and it formed a subtle frame for the very plain photographs."

Now it's your turn to take the THAT Project Challenge.  This challenge is not limited to layouts - it can be anything that you've been putting off!  Send a picture of your project along with a description to Scrappinpsycho@live.com.  Your submission will be posted here - and you will be eligible to become a future Guest Design Team member.  See all the details below in October Challenge.

Pagerize Joni by Stacy

I finally found a chance to do the "Pagerize This Challenge" of Rockin' Surfer by Joni.
I loved how Joni made it look so effortless and the layout was just so gorgeous!
I tend to be literal and I'm not good at distressing things . And making it look effortless is just not in me...so I struggled a little with this one.
I started and stopped and changed several times. And even threw some paper away after painting on it and thinking...yuck...LOL.  So, try to be kind...LOL

I used some paper from Pressed Petals that I got at Big Lots for super cheap. Unfortunately, I taped the other paper down before looking to see who it was from...sorry. It is just a paper I have had in my stash that seemed to look like it would work.
I started by spritzing the paper with some Smooch Spritz in a blue and then I painted some chipboard and added some bling with my
I-rock. (love that I-rock!!!) Do you have one and if so do you like it??
I cut the title work with my Cricut using my Speaking of Winter Cart. I chalked it with blue chalk and then used some crystal Stickles. Sparkle is your friend. Ha! There are a few Basic Grey Felties that I also stickled a bit.
So, what do you think?? There is still time for you to do this challenge, although the challenge does end on the 12th....so go get busy!!! Thanks for looking.  See Joni's challenge layout - and all the details on how to take the challenge at Pagerize This Challenge below.   And don't forget to do THAT Project for the October Challenge - see the details below.

September Challenge by Marilyn

Posted by Picasa
Guest Design Team member Marilyn submitted this layout for the October That Project Challenge. Thisis what she said, "Thank you very much for the inspiration!! It was a tough one, but I've only had this in my head for about 15 years!! I guess it was time to get it out. Basically, I had a unique experience after losing my dad 5 years before this took place. I had had a lot of changes in my life including a marriage, building a house, and a pregnancy. I had a very vivid dream about daddy coming back and I was able to introduce him to my new husband, show him our house that he was building, and even let him feel my baby move. Then Dad said he had to leave and when I became very upset, he comforted me by telling me that life was moving on and I was in good hands with my husband, and that I was going to be a great mom. The details in the dream were so real, that I could see his freckles and smell his scent like I remembered when I was a little girl. Looking back, I genuinely feel that God had sent Daddy back to me so I could share my new life with him. Daddy was in a much better place, but God knew I needed him for just a little while. It was a very comforting feeling.

This layout was truly "Challenging" for me in so many ways! First, it was a difficult story to share, Second, I never journal that much on a page, and third, I had never used a wave border like that. I had to work and reprint several times to get the text to line up right. It was a nice way to spend my day!!

Now it's your turn to do THAT Project. You know which one I'm talking about - see all the details in October THAT Project Challenge below.

Goodbye - Hello

It's time to say Goodbye to 2 of our Design Team Members.

Brittney said, "I've become so busy with work that I can hardly find time for myself, let alone scrapping, and I feel that I am not giving the blog my all as of late. Hopefully you understand, and I will definitely participate in the challenges as often as I can."

Rachel said, "I'm sorry to have to say that with my last semester of classes, there is little time for me to scrap these days and I am going to have to step down. I will complete the September challenge, but after that I will step down from the DT. Thank you for all of the wonderful support and challenges. I will continue to follow along and play when I can"!

Both of these ladies have been great contributors to the blog and will be missed - but as someone recently said, "it's a shame when life gets in the way of our scrapping".  We wish both ladies the best in their future endeavors - and hope they will come play when they can.

Say Hello to 3 new Design Team Members:

I have asked Stacy, Libeeti and Malina to stay on as Design Team Members.

Each of these ladies have become very active members at the blog and I can't wait to see their future contributions.

Would you like to become a Guest Design Team Member?  It's quite easy - just take one of the challenges and you could be chosen as one of our future Guest Design Team Members.

Meet Our October Guest Design Team Member - Marilyn

My name is Marilyn Graff and I live in a small town in South Central Texas. I am a mother to three active boys who are my favorite subjects on my scrapbook pages, but at the same time take me away from my hobby due to their busy schedules. I  have been married to my husband, Tom, for 16 years.

From August to May, I am also a Special Education Teacher in our local school district. Although I really love my job, my favorite time of the year is quickly becoming summer because all of our schedules slow down and I get to just enjoy my family and kids, and my hobby!! I love scrapbooking because is combines my three loves: my family, photography, and crafting!! My favorite product line is Close To My Heart. I love to stitch on my papers, embossing, and to journal with my own handwriting.

I am so excited about being a Guest Designer for Scrap Our Stash!! This is my first time to be on a Design Team and I am so honored to have this opportunity. I hope my pages will inspire you and get you motivated to scrap those memories...even the hard ones, like I have done with this month's challenge.

It's not too late - you too could become a Guest Design Team member - just complete either the September Challenge or the Frugal Friday Tip Challenge before the September 30th deadline.  See all the details below.

September Challenge by Laurie

Posted by Picasa
Design Team Member Laurie created this layout for the September border punch challenge.  She said, "I decided to do something different and actually use the border punched pieces on the border of the layout, whereas I usually use them somewhere in the center of the layout. I thought this would ground my page yet add some other color interest. I then also brought the color in the center of the layout by using my cuttlebug embossing folder, another tool I often forget to use. The brochures about Muir Woods stand in for my title as I used a part of a transparency to make an invisible pocket."

Time is almost up - the September Challenge ends at on the 30th.  Be sure to get your project submitted before the deadline.  See all the details in the September Challenge below.  And don't miss out on our other fun challenges going on right now see the following posts below:  Pagerize This Challenge and the Frugal Friday Tip Challenge.
