October Guest Design Team Winners

Our August Flower challenge provided lots of ideas for flowers to use on your scrapbooking pages. Thanks to our readers:  Karen, Tina, Kelly, Irit and Marilyn for contributing to our flower challenge. It was a difficult choice, with so many tallented ladies to choose from.

August Challenge

Nothing like the last minute to enter right??!! lol


Guest Design Team Member Stacy submitted this layout for the August Challenge.  She said, "I really had fun making this layout of my sweet daughter. This picture was from a recent trip we took in our RV. She was just happy and looking at me over her shoulder and I think it is super sweet, and shows what a beauty she will be when she grows up.


I used some pp from My Minds Eye - Spectrum Cools. I also used some more pp from MME - Deena's Penny Lane.


My mom crocheted the flowers. I made the flower I put under one of her crocheted flowers out of pp that I punched out with a scallop punch. I then cut along every two scallops and crunched it up a bit and layered them with the crocheted flower on top. I added some buttons from my stash.


I used a sketch from Sketchy Thursdays recent sketch challenge. Isn't it a great sketch??!!


I added a little purple bling and a couple of ornamental paper clips with charms on them.


I also cut out the title using my Cricut. The cartridge I used was the Cutting Up Cartridge.


This was a fun challenge to do and I have loved seeing everyone else's takes. Can't wait until next months challenge is posted!! Stacy H-W

Meet Our September Guest Design Team Member - Mandy

My name is Mandy, and I live in Dallas with my husband, Jack. I work as a Broadcast Editor for an international radio program, and Jack is a taekwondo instructor. I started scrapbooking in 2003, when I made a really terrible little scrapbook for Jack while we were dating. Since then, I've learned a lot more about good design and composition (thank goodness!). In my free time, I run a non-profit organization called Survival Mode Parent (survivalmodeparent.org), design digital scrapbook kits and blogs (hornbuckledesigns.com), captain a BikeMS team (which raises money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society), and spend time with Jack and our dog, Maggie.

I'm Libeeti, from Israel.
I'm a full time working woman, and a proud mom of 2 adorable boys, 8y and 5y.
I love reading, travelling and being at the beach. My crafty history started only a year ago, with some altered art and card making. I started scrapbooking in Jan 2010 and I've been totally enchanted with it ever since.


I love to learn and try new techniques, and I'm in love with homemade embellishments, especially flowers. I'm never tired of learning new ways to make them!

Meet Our September Guest Design Team Member - Malina

Hi, my name is Malina Rome and I am so excited to a be a guest designer this month! I guess I have been scrapbooking about ten years. I discovered it while I was a child photographer and shortly after my daughter was born. I laugh now at what was scrapbook art then and what it is now. This is how I tend to view most of my work...as art. I am a designer for my local scrapbook store, "Rochester Scrapbooking Company." I do not just do layouts but mini-albums and paper art and this is becoming my niche with the design team it seems so I am always on the look-out for new ideas and techniques to try.

 I also assist in teaching classes on using the Cricut cutting machines now. I am really grateful that I have that chance and look forward to the opportunity for teaching more classes locally on scrapbooking. I will be published for the first time in Scrapbooking News and Review com Magazine(http://www.scrapbookingnewsandreview.com/) on Aug. 29, 2010 with 4 different layouts!!! I hope you get a chance to check it out because I am super excited and super proud so forgive the shameless promotion lol.

In addition to all this I do own a small home-based/internet-based company called Reflections; Scrapbooking & Paper Keepsakes. In my restructure from local projects for local individuals I am reaching out for something bigger...you can follow that 'bigger' at www.reflectionskeepsakes.blogspot.com or www.facebook.com/MalinaofReflections.


I do not have any special style but I do have specific tools I cannot scrap without! I must have my Fiskar's locking spring handled scissors, my five different types of tweezers, my crafting knife, my headlight and my family. My children are my favorite subjects to scrap always and living in MN gives me lots of different environments for great pictures. I used to just scrap big events but now I scrap everything! My favorite inspiration books are from Creating Keepsakes but I believe inspiration can come from ANYWHERE! I especially like "Scrap Our Stash" because I have A LOT of stash. I like to tell my children I have enough paper to scrap for 10 years without buying another piece...but I will keep buying pieces because I have a problem, lol. I am a huge fan of "Scrap Our Stash" and hope to be able to design for them again after this month but if not I will still keep scrapping Kathy's challenges because they are great.

Meet Guest Design Team Member - Stacy

I'm Stacy Harper-Watson and I feel so lucky to get to be a stay at home mother to my 5 children. I have 3 sons and 2 daughters who range in age from 10 to 2. My husband and I were blessed to be able to adopt them all. We like to say that we have adopted their birth countries too...Taiwan (4 kids) and China (1 daughter).


I have always been a "crafty" person but didn't start to scrap until March of this year. We adopted our daughter from China last year and when we did I met and made immediate friends with another mother. She is a scrapper and invited me to join in on a group to make life books for our daughters. (Life books are basically scrap books telling the story of our child's life before they joined our family)


I agreed to join the group. Made my first layout and was hooked. I now have my own blog (doesn't everyone?? lol) and I try to be creative every day. I am on a DT at Sketches for You that is so much fun. And I get to roam around the net and join in on inspiring challenges on other challenge sites like Scrap our Stash .


I am so happy to get to be a guest designer here in September. Thanks so much for choosing me!!

I did another layout using the same flowers I had done before, but this time I actually spritzed them with water and them crumpled them.  Then when they dried I inked them with distressing ink.  I really like the way they turned out.  Also, this layout is made from all scrap paper, except for the background sheet!

This layout was submitted by Design Team Member Monica for the August Flower Challenge.  She said, "My flower is very simple. I cut out 4 circles all just a little bit smaller than each other and then crumbled them up a little. I then attached them to the page with a brad. This was my first attempt at any type of flower so I chose something fairly easy. I really like how the whole lo turned out"!

August Challenge

The August Challenge is to use Flowers on your project, preferably Do It Yourself Flowers. If you do make DIY flowers please include detailed instructions if possible. Your project can contain any kind of flowers - no rules here - just use up some of that stash! You can use as few or as many as you choose. Be creative!

To participate in the Challenge just submit your projects by sending a picture and description to scrappinpsycho@live.com . All projects will be posted here at Scrap Our Stash. All submissions must be received by 6:00 PM Central Time on August 31st. A winner will be chosen and given the opportunity to be a Guest Design Team Member for the month of November!

I was so excited to do flowers for August because I knew that I could take this challenge as an opportunity to crochet something other than blankets! I crocheted the two flowers out of hemp string for my card and used the rest (plus some fun purple!) to make a nice ribbon-chain to match. I also used Staz-On metallic inks for the first time on a piece of mirrored purple cardstock (it's hard to see in the photo) and you can read more about that experience at my blog!

$$Frugal Friday Tip$$

Do you have any old planners lying around? I did! I found this old planner in my book storage and decided to make it into something new!

Rather than pay to get a wedding planner/agenda thing I decided to take the planner I found out of the plastic cover and make my own!

You can either cover the existing pages with new paper and work from there, or if you have a binding machine, make your own inserts.

With what you have in your stash you can make your own planner, organizer, or a mini album!!! Look around!

Guest Design Team Member Malina submitted this single 12x12 page layout: Simply Divine for the August Flower Challenge. She said, I dressed up this layout of my daughter Taylor by using some of my favorite purchased flowers. I chose the butterfly for the center as a way to represent what is transpiring this year, the year of 13. Taylor has emerged into a beautiful young woman but also the butterfly is a subtle reminder of the short time she will stay with me, drying her wings, and then fly off on her own...Since it is divine though I needed to dress it all up with silver shimmer mist and Smooches on the butterfly's.

Reader Karen submitted this layout for the August Flower Challenge. She said, "Here is my layout using handmade flowers, and also a close up picture of the flowers. I used a tutorial for "box flowers" that I found on the Cosmo Cricket blog, and I've put a link on my blog . I did a few things differently from the tutorial: First, I freehand cut the circles (quicker and quirkier than using a punch or die). Second, I distressed the circles a bit before assembling them. Third, under the button I placed another distressed circle to cover the center and add a layer. Thanks for looking :) Karen"

August Challenge

Hey SOS readers, it's Brittney here! I love adding flowers on to my layouts, and lately I have been making a lot of them. They're definitely easy and cheaper than going out and purchasing some. Here's my layout and to make the flower I just used 2 circle punches (different sizes) and a brad (or in my case, an American Crafts button). For the base of the flower I used a 2.5" punch and for the petals I used a 2 1/8" punch.

Recently I did a tutorial for a Spanish Speaking Forum. I based it on a video tutorial presented by Hero Arts. Because the members of this forum are from different parts of the world, where scrapbooking supplies are very limited or very expensive; I had to adapt and change the materials used in the Hero Arts tutorial.

I translated the document to English to share with you. I love how the flowers turned out. They can be used for Home Decor, scrapbook layouts, cardmaking, etc.

Hope you like them, as much as I like making this tutorial.

Flowers just seem to be the perfect embellishment to finish or save a layout. When in doubt put a flower or two out :) But flowers purchased at the store can get pricey and if you are like me you will want lots of color choices available to you in bling and without bling which means buying more for your stash. And while I do enjoy making various flowers from time to time they can be time consuming and not easy to reach for in a pinch when I just need that something.

So I have begun stashing inexpensive white paper flowers instead of colored ones. I can often pick up a pack of 2 dozen in varied sizes for $1.00. Then when I need one I reach for my Smooches, Stickles or my Chalk & Pigment eyes from Color Box. And since I seem to always have young girls around nosing through my stash for that 'something' they need it stretches my stash just a bit further.

Have I mentioned how excited I am to start as a full-time Scrap our Stash DT Member? So much that I wanted to celebrate with you all and send out some candy to everyone that participates in both the August Flower challenge and the Pagerize This #1 challenge.

This flower was made using a tutorial posted by Nichole Heady's blog. I have totally fallen in love with these flowers and as a crochet-avid love how simple these are. The DMC floss is also perfect, since they are cheap and vary in color. These flower embellishments can be simple or decadent, depending on how their centers are chosen.

August Challenge - Ready To Bloom

Hello, Kimmarie posting here today! August challenge is to make your own flowers. Unfortunately, I was not able to post tutorial pictures but my flowers are easy peasy. My computer has a huge virus and is being repaired at Staples. Anyway, here is my layout titled: Ready To Bloom.
This is a picture of my 10yr old daughter, Victoria. She wasn't in the picture taking mood that day but I decided she still looked beautiful and this picture represents the "mood - ready to bloom" that she has been in for over a year now. kwim?! lol For picture taking purposes I put white paper behind my layout (that is not part of the layout).

My flowers were made using the Stampin' Up Scallop Punch. After punching the scalloped circles, I cut next to each scallop on a slight angle then inked the petals. I added a button to the center and there you go, instant flower. I learned this trick from my SU friend, Stasia while scrapping at her house one night.

"this is actually a 8x8 double layout. The layout comes from a very special & simple album comprised of letters & conversations to my daughter on her 13th birthday. The flower used is created using several 'Cricut' cut hearts from a Girl Scout Valentine's Day service project I taught.

August Challenge

Design Team Member Amy submitted this layout for the August Flower Challenge. She said, "i have to admit i was a little stumped. I don't get many opportunities to use flowers on many of my scrapbooking projects. I am the oldest of three brothers and i have a son of my own, so flowers don't show up too often on my pages. So instead of doing a layout or card, i made myself some flowers for my scrap space!
I used October Afternoon's Thrift Shop line to make my flowers using my Cricut machine (accent's essentials cartridge). After i cut my flowers into different sizes, I embellished them with brads, gems, stickles, inks and buttons. Each flower is stapled to a pipe cleaner and then shoved into floral foam.
The "vase" is just an old soup can that i removed the label and recovered with scrapbook paper. It felt a little plain to me at first so i added a quote by Cathy Allen.
