Love - Use your Scraps challenge

Posted by PicasaLove - by Amy
Amy sent the following description: Recently my husband and I were invited to a wedding, so of course that meant I needed a card! I pulled this patterned paper out of my stash. It was already cut to a 6x12 size. I folded it in half and I had the base of my card. Next I found some cream and these black glitter scraps and punched shapes out of them. I knew I wanted to add ribbon soI raided my ribbon scrap jar (I have two actually) and found this sheer black ribbon. I was then able to find some cream and black prima flowers and add jewels and pearls to the centers of them. Next, I went through my letter stickers looking for pink letters that I could spell the word "love" with. These pink glitter letters coordinated perfect with the glitter cardstock and gave the card a more feminine touch.

"Love"
Supplies:
cardstock and glitter paper: the Paper Company
Patterned paper: Making memories
Ribbon: michaels
Flowers: Prima
Jewels and pearl: Prima
Letters: Making memories
Punches: Marvy Uchida

$$Frugal Friday Tips$$

Our first $Frugal Friday$ reader tip is from Alissa of http://craftalicious-caper.blogspot.com/ Alissa sent some frugal tips related to the way that new clothes can be used as frugal additions to your scrapbooking stash...
Alissa cuts off the ribbon that often comes attached to tops and dresses and uses it as a scrapbook embellishement.

She also said many items of clothing often come with spare buttons that she adds to her stash. This allows her to have a variety of buttons that can be used in layouts such as the one she did for my trip to Zurich .
In addition to Alissa's ideas of using items from new clothing - I would like to add, I have also used items from used clothing. When clothes are no longer worn I've been known to remove anything that may have "scrappy potential". I have some great snaps from one of my daughter's sweaters and a really cute felt embelishment off a child's shirt that says "genuine". I need to pull that out and scrap it!
Thanks Alissa for the great tips and also for triggering ideas of other frugal tips.
If you do a project this week using Alissa's or my tip - send pictures and a brief description, and they may be posted.
If you have a frugal tip you'd like to share please email me at scrappinpsycho@live.com and it may appear in a future "Frugal Friday" post.

Design Team Reveal

Our final Scrap Our Stash Design Team member is Robin Wade from Lynchburg, Virginia. Robin has been married to her best friend & hubby for 15 years & they have 4 beautiful daughters... Jessica (18), Emily (13), Victoria (9) & Andrea (7). She works part-time as a Cake Decorator at a local Dairy Queen and says, "I honestly love my job! It just gives me another way to be creative!"

Robin has been paper crafting for about 9 years & truly loves everything about this wonderful craft. She has found a simple style that she's comfortable with and feels that it showcases her photos, journaling & memories exactly the way she wants. She also loves creating mini albums & altered art/home decor to give as gifts to family & friends. She dosen't think she has purchased a card in the past 9 years!

Some recent changes in Robin's famlily's life has forced her to start really looking at her stash and utilize what she has. She thinks it has been over 6 months since she has purchased any scrappy supplies except for adhesives! Robin has a passion for using flowers, flourishes & bling on her layouts, and she has a wonderful relationship with her Cricut Expression! When asked how long her stash would last if she could scrap a page a day, she said she could probably scrap for several years without having to buy anything but adhesive!
For her Stash Project Robin created:

"You Can Never Have Too Many Flowers"

Posted by PicasaThis layout represents a HUGE part of her stash... Flowers! She has jars, bins & boxes full of them! Having 4 daughters, she tends to find uses for them in almost ALL of her creations! They are the one embellishment that she just can't get enough of!

Robin will be a great addition to our already awsome Design Team. She will be a great inspiration to all of us to Scrap Our Stash. We are looking forward to seeing her future contributions. Make sure to Congratulate her on being chosen for the design team - and check out her blog @ http://www.rwade1969.blogspot.com.

Now that you've met the whole team we hope you are as excited to be apart of this as we are. The first Scrap Our Stash Challenge will be announced December 1, 2009.
Until then we would like to keep things going here - so come back on Sunday to play "Identify Our Stash!"

$$$ Frugal Friday $$$ Example

Posted by Picasa
This is an example of the frugal tip to "cut a chunk out of the center" of the paper if it is going to be covered. In this example - I cut the center out of the dotted paper on the top layout. I used the cutout of the dotted paper on the 2nd layout - I also used the scraps from the Checked paper. So the second layout is made from 1 12 x 12 striped paper (which I can also cut the center out of) and the rest of the page is scraps from layout #1. Feel free to send examples of your use of this tip to scrappinpsycho@live.com . Your sample may be posted. Also, if you have a frugal tip you'd like to share please send them to scrappinpsycho@live.com

Design Team Reveal

Meet our latest Scrap Our Stash Design Team member Danielle Gaudet
from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Danielle has been married to her high school sweetheart, Dwain, for almost 22 years. She says, "he is the most wonderfully supportive man and I am a very lucky SAHM to one beautiful teenage daughter and two of the cutest fur babies. They are my joy. "

Danielle has been scrapping for 14 years and has taught scrapbooking classes for about 6 years. She has no set time for scrapping, but she tries to do something creative every day. Whether it is catching up on blogs, looking at a scrapbooking magazine or just sketching her layouts. She likes to do something to keep her creative juices flowing. Danielle likes to sketch her designs ahead of time, so that when she is ready to make a page, she can quickly get started by choosing some papers and embellishments to match.

She says, “I have so many embellishments in my stash, oh wait, is it rubber stamps? Oh, maybe Thickers? Okay, so I have enough of everything to open a small store“. When asked how long her stash would survive if she were to do one layout per day she said, “I could probably do a good year or two, adhesives included. Oh, did I just admit that out loud?”

Danielle said she is very excited to have come across the Scrap Our Stash Challenge site and she is even more excited to be part of the Design Team. She has a lot of stash to scrap and she hopes to show creative ways to help others scrap their stash.

Danielle’s stash project is a photo that she had been wanting to scrap for a while.

"This Girl"

She says, “this Girl” not only makes her smile, she is the reason why Danielle scrapbooks. This page was made using up bits from a leftover kit club. Kit clubs are one of the reasons Danielle’s store, I mean room, is overstuffed with supplies. When she has time, she tries to pull pieces from her stash to create her own quick page kits. This makes for a fast start when creativity strikes. She already had the design, paper and embellishments ready to go when it came time to make this page.

We are looking forward to seeing what Danielle will contribute to the Scrap Your Stash Design Team. With the amount of stash she has she should be around for a long time. Please congratulate Danielle on being chosen as a part of the team - and don’t forget to check out her blog at http://www.meamomentaryglimpse.blogspot.com/. Please check out the other design team members here and on their blogs. Stay tune for more design team reveals - and our first challenge will be posted on December 1, 2009. Welcome Megan Bickers

our newest Scrap Our Stash Design Team member. Megan has scrapbooked in some shape or form since she was little. She remembers helping her mom staple and glue scraps of greeting cards, wrapping paper, and memorabilia into large manilla books. Her babysitter introduced her to stamping when she was in elementary school (5th grade). She said she has always been involved in some craft or another, but scrapbooking really fills in all the gaps for her. She loves photography and documenting her family’s stories for her children, she creates her pages with multiple photos and her favorite supply—her stamps! Her scrapbooking developed more after her dad died five years ago and she wanted to use her photos and words to focus more on their relationships and not just the events. She enjoys teaching scrapbooking classes as her schedule permits and loves finding new ways to scrap her supplies.

Megan’s family is super supportive of her creative endeavors. She has been married for 12 years to her best friend. They have two elementary aged children (a boy and a girl), and their family wouldn’t be complete without their dog. They live in Texas and love spending as much time as they can outdoors.

Megan says she is very excited to be on the Scrap Our Stash Design Team because she has accumulated a large supply of products and loves creating with a challenge in mind. Stamps, are hands down what she has the most of in her stash. She has them consolidated down into a smaller footprint storage-wise, but they are her favorite tool and what she uses on just about every layout. If she had to pick a consumable product, it would have to be pattern paper. She said she is a sucker for beautiful designs and has quite a collection of papers too.

When asked how long her stash would last if she scraped one layout per day. Her resonse was “a LONG LONG time without HAVING to purchase anything else.” She did admit that she probably WOULD purchase something else, but who doesn’t love shopping for a good deal?”
Megan's Stash project is:

The Laughter of Children

Posted by PicasaShe used two sets of older Rusty Pickle stickers she'd been hoarding forever and some Basic Grey tag die cuts that she has also been collecting for a while now. She was challenging herself to use white cardstock as her layout base and to use several products she hadn’t used in a long time (stickers and die cut tags). Of course, she had to add some stamps to the mix, and she personalized the white background with some stamps and inks. The stickers were attached to the layout with pop dots and accented with stickles glitter glue. The buttons were added to give a 3-D look to the rest of the layout.

Megan is going to be a great contributor to the Scrap Our Stash Design Team. Maybe she'll even get some of us to use those stamps we've been collecting! Be sure to welcome Megan here and also check out her blog at http://www.made-by-design.blogspot.com/ to see more of her great work. Be sure to check back to meet the rest of the team - and make sure you're here on December 1st for our first Scrap Our Stash Challenge.

Design Team Reveal

I am pleased to introduce Kimmarie Baker from Wood-Ridge, NJ. Kimmarie is married to Mark, they recently celebrated 23 years together. She has 3 beautiful daughters; Sara 17, Victoria 9 and Emma 6. Kimmarie started scrapping about 11 years ago and has loved it ever since. She says that over the years her style has changed a lot and that she laughs when she looks at her old layouts, but she would never change them. She stated that she gets overwhelmed with all the new products coming out all the time, so she has determined to scrap her stash and try not to buy any new supplies. Kimmarie said she is happy to be part of the Scrap Our Stash Challenge Design Team, as it will help her fulfil her goal of using her stash, and will also hopefully inspire others to do the same.

Kimmarie recently switched her daughter's bedroom and her scraproom, which not only allowed her to see what she has, but also how much she has in her stash. She said it is very scary to see the amount of stash she has accumulated over the years. Her stash seems to be made up of an enormous amount of stickers, which makes sense because she doesn't use them very often. If she were to complete 1 layout per day she could definitely survive 6 months without buying anything, but if she were allowed to purchase paper during that time she would be able to survive a lot longer.

Kimmarie use some of her stash to create her Stash Project:

Mom's Bench

Posted by Picasa
The journaling says: The Lake...Mom's obsession for 2009. This summer was the first time we visited Kelly and family in a few years. Kelly lives by a 30 mile lake. At the end of her block there was a bench, it was perfect for my mom to just sit and talk and look at the lake. We walked to the lake several times over the summer, no matter what time day or night, it was beautiful. Mom has claimed this bench her's and it's always there for her.

Kimmarie's other submissions for the Design Team call were some great altered items. She will be a great source of inspiration for all of us to scrap our stash on projects other than layouts.

Please take the time to congratulate Kimmarie on being chosen for the design team. You can see some of her additional work on her blog at http://www.kimmarieskorner.blogspot.com/ . Stay tuned for more design team reveals.

Our first challenge will be announced on December 1, 2009 - make sure you are a follower - you won't want to miss it.

Design Team Reveal

We are excited to introduce Amy Chretin as a new Scrap Our Stash Design Team member. Amy comes from Chandler, Arizona, where she is a stay-at-home mom to a busy 1 year old. She has been scrapping for 10 years and has over 20 very full albums. Amy scrapbooks not only to preserve her memories and photos, but also because she enjoys the creative aspect of it. Her weakness is paint and foam stamps. She worked at Michael's for 6 years which contributed to her accumulation of stash. When asked how long her stash would survive if she did one page per day - her answer was "quite a while".

Amy says she is excited to be a part of the Scarp Our Stash Challenge Design Team because she loves using things she already has on hand.

For her STASH project Amy Submitted:

You Are My Sunshine

Posted by PicasaThis picture was taken on the beach in San Diego, California. Amy's son enjoyed his first time at the beach and loved lounging in the chairs. Amy said, "when I saw this picture with the bright blue chair, I knew it would "pop" against a yellow background." She chose to make a giant sun, by cutting two large circles of card stock. She really wanted the "rays" of the sun to stand out, so she chose many different mediums to highlight them. She relates that she had so much fun digging through all her buttons to find yellow ones, and also in using other products such as the felt that she normally wouldn't have used.
We are excited to have Amy as a member of the Scrap Our Stash Design Team. She will be a great source of inspiration and encouragement to all of us at Scarp Our Stash.

Please take the time to congratulate Amy on being chosen for the team - and watch for upcoming reveals. You can see more of Amy's accomplishments by visiting her blog at:

Design Team Reveal

Hi! My name is Kathy and I am a Scrappinpsycho.

I am from Austin, Texas, and have been scrapbooking so long I can't remember when I started. I started scrapbooking reluctantly thinking this was just another craft fad and that about the time I got into it they'd quit making stuff and then I'd have to quit. Maybe that's why I have sooo much stuff. My weaknesses are patterned paper and bargains. I love to shop with the "how could I use this in scrapbooking" mind set. I have stash from the "beginning of time". Sometimes I just laugh and say "what was I thinking when I bought that?"

My favorite subjects (victims) are my 3 adorable grandchildren. I like to believe I am preserving memories for them and future generations - maybe I'm just creating a huge pile in a landfill somewhere, but that's okay because scrapbooking is more than a hobby to me. It is my therapy which is why I do my scrapping in "The Psycho's Asylum". It's also a very social thing for me. My friends are all scrapbookers - hmmm - which came first. Some are friends that became scrapbookers, but many are friends I've met through scrapbooking.

At the end of August 09 I got this idea that I wanted to be on design team (some of my friends were doing it - why not me). So I set out to become a design team member. My first rejection was hard. "What were they thinking?" - I whined to anyone who would listen at Twopeasinabucket - I received a lot of encouragement and some constructive criticism. I decided one of my problems was I didn't have a blog. So I entered the world of blogging (something I thought was ridiculous before this). So now, I have a new obsession.

My second DT rejection was even more devastating. I started getting involved in challenges at some of the blogs that I visited. Eventually I actually won a few - and I finally got chosen to be on the Creative Team at ScrapSketch. But due to my obsession I still wanted more. I got very involved in another blog with the hope of being chosen for their DT - another rejection. So when Use Your Stash announced on November 1, that they were calling it quits - I jumped on it. I decided I should create my own blog challenge and do ALL the things I don't like about those other blog challenges. I won't go into a lot of detail (yeah right!) but one thing I really hope to do is give everyone who participates "their moment of glory". Each participant's entry will be posted "for the whole world to see". I won't boar you with my other plans now, but I'm hoping this will be a blog where scrappers will want to hang out.

For the design team call I asked that each entrant be creative and submit a "STASH" project.

Here is Mine
This is actually a picture of my Asylum mid-reorganization. It really didn't look this bad when I started. To see the finished project visit my blog at http://scrappinpsycho.blogspot.com/
Not only does this give an indication of the amount of stash I have - it also depicts the use of my stash. The background paper was actually from the "kids" stash. The title is sort of my theme - I very rarely throw a way a scrap.

If I were to scrap a page a day (I wish) I'd have to live to be over 100 before I'd have to buy anything other than adhesives. It's not likely I'll live that long - or that I'll quit buying. I really thing being held accountable to YOU my Support Team - I will do better at Scrapping my Stash, and I hope to be an encouragement to You to do the same.

I hope you will find this a fun place to hang out - and that the challenges will stretch not only your budget but also inspire you to scrap your stash in a way you may not have thought of. Please feel free to leave comments or email me at scrappinpsycho@live.com if I can be of any assistance.
I'm excited about this new venture and hope you are too. Please check back (become a follower) for more Design Team reveals and more details on the Challenge which will officially launch on December 1.

Design Team Reveal

Meet Joni Scrap Our Stash Design Team Member

Joni who lives in Phoenix, Arizona started scrapbooking in late 2001 when she was trying to preserve a memory of a recently lost pet. She was glad she was already involved in this hobby when her son, Joseph, was born in 2003. Her husband of 17 years, John, supports her creative "habit/addiction", knowing that she is preserving memories for her son and his future family. She feels she is truly blessed.

Joni scrapbooks almost every night for 1 - 3 hours although, some of that time is spent rummaging through her stash to find the "perfect" paper or embellishment. Joni states, "this is why I"m thrilled to have found this challenge blog, to help me use what i already own. My wallet likes this too!" She confesses that she is addicted to patterned paper (some of it is so beautiful she can't bring herself to use it). She keeps saving it for the "perfect layout".

Joni enjoys participating in different challenge sites and feels they are great for helping her think "outside the box" or just get a jump start. She is also on the design team at Practical Scrappers. She has lots of stash to scrap and loves a challenge. She hopes as a team member of Scrap Our Stash to provide inspiration to others.

As a requirement for the Design Team call Joni was asked to complete a "STASH" project. This could be anything she wanted to do that had something to do with her stash.

"Our Cowboy" is Joni's Stash Project.
She said she had a package of Karen Foster Charms for a long time. Her son was a cowboy for Halloween and so she thought she would use a couple of them. Then decided "what the heck am I saving them for?" So, she SCRAPPED HER STASH and used the whole darn package. She also used "really old" patterned paper & some fun chipboard stars which she covered with card stock & then doodled. The black circles are doodle stitched with Smooches (ink).

So, how could Joni have not been chosen for the Design Team? I think she is going to be a great asset to the team and I can't wait to see what she will contribute in the future. You can check out Joni's blog at http://joniparkerstuff.blogspot.com/
Please congratulate Joni and watch for more upcoming reveals. The Design Team Call is still open. See details below.
