Hello ~ Goodbye

It is with sadness that we must say goodbye to Design Team Members Mary Pat and Sindi. Both ladies have been a great asset to the Scrap Our Stash Team, but feel the need to "retire" from their position on the Design Team at this time. Both have made great contributions to the blog and will be missed. We wish them well and hope they will come back and visit often.

Guest Design Team Member Nicky has agreed to stay on as a full time Design Team Member - so we will be seeing a lot more of her talent in the future.

Meet March Guest Design Team Member Angela

Hey there, I'm Angela -- an essay-grading, grammar-slinging English teacher by day and super-crafter by night. I live near Detroit with my hubster and our two cats, all three of whom are frequent scrap subjects (whether they like it or not!). I've been crafting since I was a kiddo, but started paper crafting in earnest in late 2002 when I decided to make my own wedding invitations.
Whoa.
That. was. nuts.
It didn't turn me off from stamps and paper, though, luckily!
Scrapping is a more recent obsession -- I fell in love with my local scrapbooking store a couple years ago and had the crazy idea to 1. Teach myself to scrapbook, and then 2. Apply for their design team. It worked! I'm still loving and designing for Scrappy Chic in Livonia, MI. It's also given me a creative outlet for all those dang photos that I keep taking.
When I'm not up to my neck in pretty paper and ink, you might find me cooking, reading blogs, playing pub trivia, grading the aforementioned essays, or maybe with my nose in a book when I get a second. You can also find me blogging at The Paper Cupboard (papercupboard.blogspot.com).
Here's to a great month -- thanks for having me!

I am the mother of 3 beautiful girls and the grandmother of one cute little grandson. I work part time as a University Facilitator in the field of Education and also baby sit my grandson. I started scrapping about 13 years ago and have watched as this craft has grown by leaps and bounds! I'm always amazed and in awe of the new products coming out. Things sure have changed since I started and I can't wait to see where it will be going. I love to try new things and to grow as a scrapper! I also like to meet new "scrappy friends" and would love for you to visit my blog and say Hi! http://scrapsational-char.blogspot.com/

Meet March Guest Design Team Member Penny

Hi, my name is Penny Arnold, and I have been scrapbooking since 1999. I have been published twice, in "Legacy Magazine", and in "Mother Goose Scrapbooking", I have another publication coming out in the July issue of "Cricut Magazine" it was one of my favorite projects so keep an eye out for it! I love scrapbooking and believe that you can alter just about ANYTHING! Most of my layouts will feature my two grandchildren, however my blog also has a lot of altered projects with detailed directions, and a lot of frugal scrapbooking ideas, so be sure and check it out, it can be found here http://scrap-aholic.blogspot.com/ and I always appreciate new followers! I was also a board moderator for several years, that was a lot of fun. For the most part I am a back to basics simple scrapper where I believe that the photo's should always steal the show, not the embellishments. Thanks for looking at my work today, happy scrapping!
Love Penny

Meet March Guest Design Team Member Rita

For the February Leap Challenge I decided to scrap some photos of my youngest daughter playing leap frog in our kitchen. I just love this girl, she has an endless amount of energy that if I could bottle, I would be rich! Anyway, I used the following products in this layout: Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned Paper: Echo Park Co.; American Crafts Thickers, misc. flowers and bling; inspired by a sketch from Allison Davis. Now let's see what you can create for the February Leap Challenge!

February Leap Challenge by Laurie

Reader Laurie submitted this layout for the February Leap Challenge.  She said:

Here is my take on the February Leap challenge. I can't believe I didn't use a picture on this. I ALWAYS use pictures. That was quite a "leap" for me. This was inspired by those Honda CR-V ads about what you want to do before you do other things, so this is about the things I want to do (or that need to happen) before we have kids. The letter stickers, stickers, and tags are My Little Shoebox.
Thanks!

February Leap Challenge by Ren-Yi

Design Team Member Ren-Yi submitted this card kit for the February Leap Challenge.  She said:

This month at Scrap our Stash we are taking a Leap in February. For the details hop over to this post. For this month, I did a project that I have never done before: creating a card kit. The concept is easy enough, but this card kit was for a 6-yr old.  Love Card Kit I was actually a little overwhelmed because I have never been tasked to make a card kit, more over one for a little, cute 6-year old. Love Card Kit Stamps: (Mega Mixed Messages) Papertrey Ink Paper: (Perfect Basics Card Stock - Vintage Cream, Kraft, Pure Poppy) Martha Stewart Ink: (Perfect Match Pigment Ink - Vintage Cream) Papertrey Ink; (Memento - Tuxedo Black) Tsukineko Embellishments:  (Impression Plate - Polka Dot Basics II) Papertrey Ink; (Scalloped Sentiments) Fiskars; (Heart Punch) Marvy Uchida Love Card Kit I was going with elements that are easy to assemble with any every-day supplies that any household might have. In this case, glue stick. ;) Each of the cards are made out of three elements: the card base, the heart punched out, and a sentiment banner. Love Card Kit Easy peasy, lemon squeezy...right? Here is how it looks in it's packaging. I grouped the elements into separate bags: pre-scored card base, sentiment banner and hearts. I hope my little 6 year old friend had fun making these... Love Card Kit Check out the Scrap Our Stash's February Challenge. You have until the end of the month to get your inspirations in. What things have you taken a leap in?

Now it's your turn to take the February LEAP Challenge. February Leap Challenge by Charlotte

March Guest Design Team Member Charlotte submitted this layout for the February Leap Challenge. She said:

I really took a "Leap" with this layout and tried out some new things! I've never used glitter before, but I had bought tons of it and decided to use it on some chipboard. I made some water distressed flowers from a tutorial I found. I stickled and inked and misted...things I never do too much of. I tried out some new products like the Mistable scalloped ribbon from Pink Paislee. I even tried out my new Martha Stewart punch that I bought last year! This challenge really got me thinking about some new things I wanted to try, so I took the "Leap".

Now it's your turn to take the February LEAP Challenge. February Leap Challenge by Penny

Guest Design Team Member Penny submitted this layout for the February Leap Challenge.  She said:

This is a layout of my grandson Matthew as he played gleefully in the water sprinkler at our home in Bridgeport. I took several photos of him and his sister that summer, it is amazing how much fun kid's can have with just a little water!

When completing this layout I had laid the solid white journal strips down on the lime cardstock, however when I placed them on the layout, the white was just too stark against the background, so I took inks that matched the background paper colors and smudged the strips till they no longer had such a bad contrast with the background Kaleidoscope papers. While the effect is not perfect it did improve the overall "look" of the journal strips against the background paper.

The journaling on this layout reads:
Matthew playing in the sprinkler's, at Bridgeport. I love the look of pure joy on his face! Oh, to be that young again! 2009
Supplies used:  MME Kaleidoscope "Me and Dad" Paisley/Periwinkle #KSI079 (This line of paper and the "Wild Asparagus" line are STILL my favorite collections of all time, and I will truly be sad when it is all gone!)
Tim Holtz-Tim 21445 Dusty Concord Ink (Purple)
Brilliance Ink BR-38 Pearlesecent Sky Blue
Lime cardstock
Dk blue cardstock
assorted brads (loved how the frog brads fit in with this month's theme)
Colorbok-Glitter Alpha letter punch outs
Silk Flowers (these were actually purchased from just the floral department at the local "Dollar General" store. I just tore them off the stems and put them on my layout, with brads.)
Martha Stewart-photo corner punch
Kodak Picture maker-I used this to edit, print and put the border on the photo.
Elmer's glue stick
Fiskers Paper trimmer-I have had this thing FOREVER and even though I have several "FANCY" ones, this is the one I use repeatedly.

Now it's your turn to take the February LEAP Challenge. The February Challenge is anything to do with LEAP - it could be a Leap you've taken in buying or using a new tool, a new product, a new technique, or your project could have somehing to do with your taking a leap. Pagerize Laurie by Tamara

Design Team Member Tamara submitted this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge # 19.  She said:
I was so excited to complete my daughters wedding in 2001. This was the last layout of that event so I can now move on. LOL I chose to keep it monochromatic and picked the color from her dress. I love this facial expression when they came through the bubbles to the open door of the limo and there sat our darling four year old neighbor (who was also a bridesmaid) asking if she could come along! It was one of those "cool" moments in time. Definately one that tells a story. I was glad that there were journaling strips on this layout so I could portray that. Loved the different tones of pattern papers and I accented with Deja view black sparkle letters and flowers.Tamara http://scrappinsmiles-myblog.blogspot.com/

February Leap Challenge by Elizabeth

Design Team Member Elizabeth contributed a few more layouts for the February Leap Challenge.  She said:

I have another two layouts that you might want to consider as the photographs I’ve used refer to a very special Leap Year for me.

The first page records our Leap Year wedding - Alan proposed in February 1996 and we married in July of that year – and it was in fact my first attempt at a layout, only months after discovering scrapbooking too. I used a kit – Anna Griffin – with instructions but I couldn’t have chosen a more difficult one for a complete beginner! For the backing I had to cut strips of PP and weave them together – not as easy as it sounds to get perfect. Needless to say I wasn’t too happy with it when finished so put it away and forgot about it for several years. Years later I revisited this layout and realised that all it needed was a few appropriate embellishments. So after adding the flowers, butterflies and pearl flourishes I found I liked it a whole lot better.

The second layout of the boat was only created this week but the photographs were also taken in 1996 when we were returning from our honeymoon in the Highlands of Scotland. We were passing Loch Lomond and stopped for a last, lingering look and discovered this little beach and the boat. The base of the layout is Kraft cardstock and the papers are from K&Co. This is the first layout where I’ve handwritten the journaling around the edge of the page.

For more information on my source of inspiration and a complete list of materials used visit my blog at http://silverscrappers.blogspot.com

February Leap Challenge by Kathy

My leap is not a layout as such - although I did actually work on a few layouts.  My leap was to work in my messy Asylum.  I tend to not scrap when my room is a mess - so you'd think that would make me clean it - but, it doesn't, it just means I don't scrap.  So, I decided to scrap in the mess with the idea that I'd put things away as I used them.  Of course I had to clear a spot on the table big enough to use first.  So atleast I got that much cleaning done.  My idea of scrapping in the mess did help a little because I did pull things from my bags and put them away when I finished with them, and I did actually finish a few layouts.

Now it's your turn to take the February LEAP Challenge. The February Challenge is anything to do with LEAP - it could be a Leap you've taken in buying or using a new tool, a new product, a new technique, or your project could have somehing to do with your taking a leap. February Leap Challenge by Ange

Design Team Member Ange submitted this project for the February Leap Challenge. She said:

This month the challenge is LEAP and you are to interpret it however you want. So I leapt into a project. I'm really more of a layout girl, so projects don't happen often around here. I really love doing them tho, so it's about time I added in a few more don't you think? Being the month of Valentine's and watching my TEENage daughter chow down on a mini hershey's bar made me think about the upcoming Vday parties my younger kids would need Valentine's for and there you go, project idea in mind. So I gathered my supplies: candy bars, stamps, stamp ink, scissors, glue, pop-dots, super old Valentine papers (Scenic Route anyone? but still so cute!) and my ever handy trimmer (not in photo) and went to work.First I determined the length of the paper wrap by measuring around the bar and adding enough to have the papers overlap plenty so I could double up on the glue-ing (which was 3 3/4 an inch), then I measured the width (2 1/2 inches) and used my scallop trimmer blade to cut the papers (I'm thinking any border punch or decorative edge scissors would be fun for this too). Add glue to the edges, wrap paper around the bar and press (the bars slide out easily as my 2yr old has proven). Then stamp and cut or punch your wanted embellishments, glue and pop-dot them to the paper and you're done! I planned to let my kids add their own To/From on the bigger hearts, so I stamped and cut them out and they're waiting on the kids to fill them out before I add them to the bars (or let the kids). But there you have it. Super simple and fun, handmade Valentine with a sweet treat inside. These would be great for nearly any holiday, birthday party treats, thank you's the list could go on and on.

February LEAP Challenge by Sarah

Design Team Member Sarah submitted this layout for the February Leap Challenge.  She Said:

Another perfect challenge topic... I went all literal with the 'LEAP'.

The pictures used on this layout were taken over the (Canadian) Thanksgiving Weekend at a local Trail called Lime Kiln. Along the trail are ruins of the original kiln, powder storage and the quarry that they gathered the lime from to make into bricks. There is a great spot over what was the entrance to the powder storage that my 4 boys like to jump over... My husband Greg lay on the ground taking thier pictures as the jumped over. All the pictures on this layout are of my youngest, Thomas.

Background paper is from a 'stack' aquired long ago... can't recall the maker. Blue with brown flecks, I edged it all in black ink.
Scalloped Circle is from Making Memories, also inked on the edges.
The photos are all inked on the edges and around the rims with black ink.
Little pearls placed all around the edge of the scallop are from the $ store. When I took the main picture one had 'run away from home', it's been returned to the page now. Bad pearl!
The 'Head in the Clouds' and 'Leap of Faith' chipboard embellishments are from Colorbok, mounted on black cardstock. The computer printed quote is also mounted on black cardstock.
Glass gems (inside the flower cut outs) are snaps from the $ store.
