August Re-Do Challenge by Kathy

These are some more pages that I had put together, and felt they were not finished, but just didn't know what to do with them.  So, once again, I made myself "finish" them.  It's amazing how just adding some inked edges to the paper, and a few embelishments and a title can make a layout look complete.

Now it's your turn to take the August Re-Do Challenge. See all the details HERE!

August Re-Do Challenge by Kathy

I actually completed something for the August Re-Do Challenge

I'm not one to re-do pages.  I usually work on them until I'm happy with the result (which sometimes means days).  But lately, I've been in more "just get 'er done mode".  This was one of those pages.  I actually was "Pagerizing" this from a magazine - but in the process lost my notes - and don't know which magazine and since I have hundreds to chooses from - it just kinda got stuck back in my album as if it were complete.  Everytime someone looked at it - I felt I had to appologize for how "Unfinished" it was.  But, didn't know how to finish it.  So, I took this Challenge as my inspiration to Finish it.  It is still far from a favorite page - but it's done without feeling like it was just one of those slap the  pictures on the page and be done with it layouts.  The title says:  My Favorites Under the Tree.  That was another issue (how many pages can you title - decorating the tree).  By the way, I may not have that issue this Christmas (but I'm too embarrased to tell you why).

The top layout is one I had done several years ago. Later, I saw a challenge blog that had a sketch similar to my page, but with a few more items, so I added more to my original layout. I didn't win the contest, but ended up with a slightly new look to my page !! I can't remember the challenge blog name.

August Re-Do Challenge by Ange

I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's "old" and newly redone layouts! My style has also changed and evolved throughout the years. I know that were I to re-do one of my layouts it would probably end up nothing like the original, but for me that's part of the charm of my older layouts. I like to see where I've changed and grown. :) So rather than re-do a layout I decided to use some of the elements from an older layout for one I would do now. I essentially scrap lifted myself. So here's my first lo. Reader: I did 8.5x11 back in the day. So I used that smaller size only for a horizontal layout. Here's my new layout. Pool: I basically kept the same design and used one of my favorite techniques DOODLING! Love it, but don't do it nearly enough anymore. I hope you play along in the last few days of this month and have fun re-doing a layout or two of your own. :)Ange

Here is another re-do!
It cracks me up to see how simple and easy my pages were 12 years ago. I think I could finish about 50 pages a day if this is all I had to do! This was a school picture of my daughter. Never thought to use the picture itself for my inspiration. I stuck to the school theme. Added a few school supply stickers and I was done! I don't even know what made me choose that color for the background...

My re-do took a little bit more work. A lot more embellishments, some fibers and pop dots. What a difference!

August Re-Do Challenge by Alanna

Here is my layout for the August Re-Do Challenge. I have been scrapping since October 2010 and this was my first ever layout. You can probably tell why I'm not happy with it! I had absolutely no clue about scrapbooking. I had a few supplies and great intentions and all I wanted to do was put photos on paper and into an album!!!  My style is still developing, but it's nothing like it was 10 months ago!! I am really proud of how far I've come with my scrapbooking in the last 10 months but I have always wanted to re-do this layout. The only thing I like about this layout is I wasn't scared of stamping like I am now!  As for my "new" layout - I love it! I love the grid design, and I am completely in love with distressing the edges right now. I have cropped the photos and distressed the edges... wouldn't have even thought of doing that 10 months ago! I have kept the embellishing to a minimum on the newer layout, but I do love going over the top with my embellishing normally - unlike in the original layout!  You can see more details in my blog post here - http://scrapping-and-life.blogspot.com/2011/08/kangaroo-island-re-do.html

Thanks :)

August Re-do by Joni

I decided I wanted to 're-do' a layout I had already done.... but instead of picking one I didn't like to "re-do" ... I picked one I really liked and did a re-do!!!!

So....I'm going to show these to you backwards... and then I'll tell you why....

So first.. this is my REDONE layout.... (I pagerized myself for this challenge...lol!!)

I took the basic design & some of the techniques that I really liked from my original --

Now...I showed you the redone layout first....because although I really do like it...it's just not as good as the original... This is one of my favorite layouts ever...definately my favorite for the time being... It was also published in Scrapbook News & Review magazine August issue.

So.... think of "re-do"...not only as "fixing up" an older layout...or redoing the same photos...
Sometimes good to "redo" something that you LOVE!!!

August Re-do Challenge by Ren-Yi

This month at our Scrap Our Stash's August Challenge we are looking back on creations and are re-doing a card, a layout, a project.

I remembered making my brother a graduation card and added a surfboard element to it. (In fact, here's a little secret - this card won me a GDT spot with Scrap Our Stash.) It's also the inspiration start point for my re-do card.

Ren-An's Graduation

Here is my new take on this card's layout, theme and technique. It's also a card for my little brother, who happens to have a Birthday today...Happy Birthday, Dude! :)

Cowabunga Dude

Instead of a matted sentiment, there is a window for the main focal point. Both cards use twine as an embellishment, the surf boards as embellishments. Both cards have a type of embossing, but my latter card has significantly more clean execution and finesse. It's safe to say that my photography has improved over time as well, don't you think? ;)

So here is your look back and re-do chance...Check out the Scrap Our Stash's August Challenge. You have until the end of the month to finish, so don't forget to enter!

Another Re-Do by Sue

Here's a layout I completed about six months. ago. It was for a sketch challenge, and while there's nothing wrong with the sketch, I let it totally drive my process and was never happy with the final result. Here's what I want to change....
#1 The Colors - I just don't care for the color scheme. Not really sure why. Maybe it's too dark or too busy, but it does not make me happy to look at this page.
#2 The Photos - They don't have a focus. Am I supposed to look at the people or the book display? I wish I had cropped these but I followed the sketch rather mindlessly. My bad.
#3 The Journaling - This is the biggest problem. I had a book published and dedicated two little journaling strips to telling the story. Seriously?

I finally decided to give myself a do-over on this page and am much happier with the result the second time around. Here's why....
#1 The Colors - I lightened up the color scheme and kept it pretty simple. Even though the photos are smaller, they stand out much better on this page.
#2 The Photos - I cropped the pictures and put them on a separate mat. The book display is still there, but now the focus is on the people.
#3 The Journaling - I allowed plenty of space for a fun title (think Monsters, Inc.) and lots of room for journaling. And yes, you could find this book on amazon, but unless you are a piano teacher, you really won't be interested!

I have other pages in my albums I'm not crazy about. Don't we all? But I have no intentions of getting carried away re-doing layouts. Since an important story (to me) was not being told, this page merited special consideration.

August Re-Do Challenge by Sarah

Design Team Member Sarah submitted this layout for the August Re-Do Challenge.  She said:

 I decided on a *timely* Re-Do.
We recently suffered what, for myself, has been a devastating loss. Our beloved Brandy Dog passed on June 22nd. It was unexpected as she was healthy and happy the evening before when we celebrated Summer Solstice. We had a great family night, her included, mere hours before she started her walk across The Rainbow Bridge. She was my little girl, my Daemon and the only other estrogen in this house full of men-folk.
I decided as soon as I got the call for this Challenge to do a Memorial Page for Brandy.

This is the finished page:

Done with the same picture as this page:
I stretched myself by using white paper...
I *HATE* white paper with a passion... I blame it on years and years of living in rental units where they don't allowed painting over the 'landlord-eggshell' on the walls. *shudder* Now I do all I can in color, color, color! Every room in our house is painted a different color.
But, I really wanted the Glimmer Mist Rainbow to *POP* so white it had to be.
I cut a template from some damaged cardstock (waste-not, want not) and sprayed each color, heat-gun dried it (impatient!) and then moved the template over for the next color. It turned out just as I hoped: shimmery and iridescent, very 'rainbow-like'.

The 'clouds' are Bo-Bunny Trim.
Mirror Butterflies, Heart and all Bling-age is $-store goodies.
Heart Stick-Pins are Making Memories.
Title Piece was part of a Swap so I'm unsure of the maker.
All Glimmer Mists are Tattered Angels.
Inks used for edging are Stampin' Up!

August Re-Do Challenge by Mary Pat

Design Team Member Mary Pat submitted this layout for the August Re-Do Challenge.  She said:

How has your style evolved?  I started out very clean and simple over 10 years ago and I would have to say my style is still the same.  Now there are changes of course in my style. I know that the challenge was ment to be a re-do, but I have never redone any of my layouts.  Why??? I love ALL my layouts the way they are.  I appreciate my style back then and I would never change anything because I made them with love.  Does that make sense?  So therefore  I have picked 2 layouts which demonstrate my style from 8 years ago and my style today.

My first layout is very clean and simple.  This layout was done 8 years ago.  Back then I did not use pattern paper.  Most of my layouts were made just from cardstock.  Occasionally I would add a touch of pattern paper.  I also mainly used brads as my way of embellishing.

This is my hubby and I at a road side store in Spain sticking our heads through cut outs!! I love this picture of us.

Now today I LOVE pattern paper.  I can't get enough of it.  For this layout I used several differnt pieces from the collection.  Again I still have a very clean and simple style.  All that is changed really is the use of pattern paper.

Now of course I did get a little fancier with the use of my Silhouette for the title, but the lines are still clean and simple.

August Re-Do Challenge by Rhonda

I finally found something I could re-do. My problem was not that I didn't have a LO that needed work, but finding extra photos/making copies was hard to do.  The background paper is from a ColorBok pad that is about a year old, the striped papers and "Sweet" sticker are from an OLD kit I bought on clearance a long time ago. I won the Thickers letter stickers in a blog giveaway, and the only new thing is the pop-up wave accent...and I didn't even buy it for the LO. It was a leftover in a pack of other beachy embellishments I used on something else. The old layout was pretty plain with some letter stamps and a sticker. I think the new LO reflects my son's SUNNY disposition better! Can't wait for more challenges.

finally!! When I first started scrapping 13 years ago, I started with my wedding pictures. I have always wanted to re-do the entire album, now that there are embellishments to add to the pages.  My original page was soooo simple. We were engaged in Disney World, so we tried to add Disney into the wedding as much as we could. The picture of Mickey and Minnie was pulled right from a coloring book. I thought it was so simple and adorable as heck! So here is my re-do. Just a few more embellishments...lol. I can't wait to re-do more wedding pictures!! Details can be found on my blog. :)

August Re-Do Challenge by Julie

Reader Julie submitted these layouts for the August Re-Do Challenge. She said:

Here is my version of the re-do challenge. The first layout, beautiful baby, was done years ago, very early in my scrapbooking days. It tells the story of the birth of my oldest son. It is very typical of my early style - no patterned paper (it took me ages to get the confidence to use pp), double and triple matting on hero photos, journalling and title done on computer and printed on vellum, hand-punched embellishments, multiple photos on a 2-page layout. Those cute little babies are actually made using a bear punch with the ears cut off!

My Re-do layout, Brand New Dad, was done very recently, uses just one of the photos from the original page and highlights a much smaller part of the story - how proud my husband was to be holding his newborn son for the first time. This page is pretty typical of my pages today - having the confidence to use multiple patterned papers on the one page, border punched strips, stamped flourishes, stamped vellum butterfly, title made using sizzix. I still like to do double page layouts covering major events and milestones, but I now also like to do this type of single photo pages as well. What hasn't changed is that I would still rather spend my money on tools such as punches, and stamps rather than one-off embellishments, and as much as possible I like to use off-cuts and scraps for photo mats and embellishments.

Not even then!  So I did it over - still didn't like it!3rd time is supposed to be the charm - no, still not right!!!  I put it away, thinking that maybe someday I would give it one more try.  Did it over for this challenge and now I like it!!!!!

August Re-Do Challenge by Joni

Hi everyone!!  Joni Parker here.... bringing you today's post!!!

So, for me "re-do" a layout is quite a stretch... So, as I really was thinking about it, I had a tip that I do that I wanted to share with you...  Not really a re-do, but kinda along those lines....

When I finish a layout....  I look at it, evaluate it (not like cross-examination or anything...lol!).... but as I'm looking at it, I ask myself these questions:

1)  What are 3 things that I LIKE about this layout.....
2)  What are 3 things that I DON'T LIKE about this layout....

Then, I mentally make a note of the things that I liked.... good to have those thoughts to use again later!!

Then I look at the things I didn't like...and I think... "Can I fix or change those things to make it better?"...sometimes I can't...and that's ok (again mental note for next time)...... But sometimes I CAN make a little adjustment or change that eliminates one of the "dislikes"....

So, with that in mind.... let me share this layout with you....
Now I scrap indoors, after dark and don't have natural light.....  so even after I took a picture of this layout, I didn't see anything wrong.   But then I loaded the picture on my computer and I went.. OH MY...that teal color tape DOESN'T MATCH COLORS AT ALL!!!!!   (See it above the word STORM & at the left edge of the border below the photo? ).....  YIKES!!

So, my quick re-do...... removed it and added some Tim Holtz tape in a neutral color....
Much better!!

So don't forget to take a quick look at your layouts and make an adjustment or two....or just make some mental notes for next time (good or bad!)....
