Meet Guest Design Team Member Sue

Hi, my name is Sue and I live with my husband and two cats in southeastern Michigan. I'm a piano teacher with a home studio, but when I'm not at the piano I love to be in my craft room. I started scrapping in 1999 when we returned from a trip to Israel and Egypt with so many wonderful photos that I knew needed a special home. That was my first album and I've been scrapping strong ever since. I also enjoy reading, knitting, beating my husband at Scrabble (okay, sometimes he wins) and watching NCIS.

Thanks for this great opportunity!

$$$ FRUGAL FRIDAY $$$

To celebrate Scrap Our Stash's Birthday I am reposting some of our original Frugal Friday Tips.  This one was submitted by Design Team Member Joni last December.

She said, when she has a layout in which she is going to use a 12x12 piece of paper as a "frame" and then have another piece of large paper behind it. She "cuts out" the back of the "frame" paper, so she has a nice "chunk" of the "frame" paper left to use later. This also helps reduce the bulk in her album.

If you have an example of your use of this frugal tip or a frugal tip you would like to share - email it to scrappinpsycho@live.com . Come back for Frugal Friday - every Friday and let us help you stretch your scrapbook $.

Best of $$Frugal Friday Tip$$

Faux Chipboard Letters by Kathy

My tip is to use chipboard letters as patterns instead of using the actual chipboard. This allows you to never run out of those pesky E's or any other letter. I have posted 2 examples.

In Indian boy - I cut the letters for INDIAN by placing the letters on the front of the paper and traced them with my Zig Writer. Then when I cut them out - I cut them just a little outside the lines leaving a small border.

On the Goofy layout - I traced the letters backward on the red paper from the back. Then I cut them on the line. Then I inked around the edges for emphasis.

To make the letters appear to be chipboard - I used the little foam adhesive (pop-dots) as my adhesive. Even up close and in real life - they totally look like they are chipboard.

This is a great way to match your letters to your layout too - no more having to find chipboard letters that "work" or having to paint, ink or cover them to match your layout. And best of all - you will always have the letters you need!

If you use this tip - please send a picture and brief description of your layout to: scrappinpsycho@live.com and I'll post it here.

Also, if you have a Frugal Tip you'd like to share - please send a picture and description to the above address and it may be posted as a future Frugal Friday Tip.

Don't forget to get your November Challenge in - entries must be received by 6 PM November 30th. Who knows - maybe you will be our next Guest Design Team member. See all the details below in November Challenge.
We're looking forward to hearing from YOU!

Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge

Delight in Life by Kimmarie

Design Team Member Kimmarie completed this layout for the Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge. Here is what she had to say about it: "This is my take on Robin's creative sketch. I took these pictures of my 18 year old daughter, Sara this month. She was all dressed up to go to a communion party with her boyfriend, Travis. She looked so pretty, I just couldn't resist snapping a bunch of pictures of her. I printed some in black and white as well, I love how easy it is to do that. I had trouble getting the papers to work on a 12 x 12 size so I decided to go with 10 x 10 and it seems to work just fine. The papers I used are from a DCWV kit, Stampin' Up Delight In Life stamp and markers, MM bling which I colored to match my layout and the flower is from Petaloo.

I enjoyed doing this layout and I actually accomplished 3 of SOS challenges in one layout. The first is following Robin's sketch, second I colored my bling as taught by Rachel on a Frugal Friday Tip and third I scrapped a 10 x 10 which is Out of My Box. I can't wait to see what you all do with Robin's awesome sketch, maybe try doing something Out of the Box with it as well.

May Challenge

Zack by Mardi
Posted by PicasaDesign Team Member Mardi submitted this layout for the May "Get Out of Your Box" Challenge. This is what she had to say about it. "Wow, did I ever step out of my box! I recently purchased a Cricut Expression, I know you are saying, what took you so long? I decided to step outside of my box by creating several of my embellishments with the Cricut. Now I am asking myself, what took me so long to purchase one of these fantastic machines! I am creating an album for my Godson for his graduation party and this is one of the many layouts I have included in his album.
Just remember you do not have to spend any money to step outside of your box, it could be as simple as using more photos on a layout, creating a two page layout, trying a new technique, or slanting your photos on your page, etc.! Let's see those projects!
Also, how about doing the Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge too.
See all the details for both the May Challenge and the Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge below.
And don't forget to leave a comment or become a follower in order to become eligible for the May Flowers prize package from our Sponsor "A Little Dash of This and That" - see the prize package in the sidebar - and details on the contest below.

Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge

The Thrill of the Hunt by Amy

Here is Design Team Amy's take on the Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge. She said, "Instead of using patterned paper to create the stripes, I used glimmer mist and a paper towel to blend the colors together. The Egg die cut is also sprayed with glimmer mist to match the egg that my son is picking up in the picture"!
Posted by PicasaNow it's your turn to take the Sketch Challenge. See the Scrap Our Sketch Challenge below to see the sketch. Complete it in any way you please, and then submit it to scrappinpsycho@live.com. All entries will be posted.
Also, how about completing the May "Get Outside of Your Box" Challenge. Maybe, doing a sketch is outside of your box. You could do one layout for both challenges! See all the details below in May Challenge.
Also, how about becoming a follower or just leaving comments - to become eligible for the May Flowers Prize package from our Sponsor "A Little Dash of This and That". Details below in Follow Me Contest.

Bloom where you are planted by Kimmarie

Posted by Picasa
Design Team Member Kimmarie submitted a second project for the "Get Out of Your Box" Challenge. Here is what she said, "I took this picture of my daughter, Sara last Mother's Day. I try to always find a color in a layout that I can use as a focal color for my layout. I was going to use the pink from the bush but my cousin talked me into using the purple on Sara's shirt so it would stand out. I didn't have any purple pattern paper at all because I never scrap with purple, just not my style. She had just recently purchased a DCWV 8 x 8 paper pack (I forget which one it was) but it came with these purple papers so she gave them to me to use. I also used Stampin Up Ink, Punch and a White Rub-on.
Thanks for looking, now it's your turn to do something Outside your box, or use something that you normally wouldn't use.
Don't forget to vote for the Spring Cleaning Challenge winner - and leave a comment or follow for a chance at the May Flowers prize package from our Sponsor "A Little Bit of This and That" - see all the details below.

I Love You by Amy

Posted by PicasaDesign Team Member Amy created this layout for the "Get Out of Your Box" Challenge. She said, "I've used glimmer mist in the past, but i was always "safe" in the way i used it. Recently, i volunteered at a scrapbook convention and one of the classes i volunteered in was a tattered angels class. I learned so many cool ways to use glimmer mist! Suddenly, i wanted to mist everything!!! I created this layout by first making my own masks using my cricut. I adhered my masks to the cardstock and sprayed the whole thing with "black magic" glimmer mist. I used a paper towel to soak up some of the excess and took my masks off. And that is how i created my very own custom patterned paper using glimmer mist. I just accented the snowflakes with jewels, glitter and glossy accents and finished my page"!

Amy was so excited about Glimmer Mist - that she is providing a bottle as a Prize. The winner will be randomly chosen from any reader that submits a project for the May Challenge.

Now it's your turn to take the challenge and become eligible for the prize. See all the details in May Challenge below.

Be Me by Joni
Posted by Picasa
Design Team Member Joni lifted Design Team Member Tere's layout. Joni said, I loved the big heart shape and the masking, so I started with a large chipboard circle & misted using a piece of lace cardstock as my mask. I also lifted the idea of doing a layout about myself, using a smaller photo.

Now it's your turn to take the April Challenge. Check out all the details in April Challenge, and find out how you could win a spot on the Guest Design Team.

April Challenge

My Best Friend by Stephanie
Posted by Picasa
Guest Design Team Member Stephanie had this to say about her April Lift project.

I've never scraplifted before. Maybe it comes from being a student and being told over and over again "do not plagiarize!" Most likely, it's because I can't even follow a sketch let alone copy something! To be honest, I think I was being taunted by a layout that can't even talk! All jokes aside, I realized that this book I bought, How to Scrapbook Your Adult Years, was the best $2.00 I've ever spent at a booksale. That's where I "stole" my layout from and you can compare the two and see how well I copied them. This was a fun challenge and it truly was a challenge!
HOw about you - now is your chance to Lift (copy) someone else's project - or maybe you'd rather use a sketch for your inspiration. Either way, we'd love to see what you create. Your project may get you a place on our Guest Design Team. Check out all the details in April Challenge below.

April Lift Challenge

By Mardi
Posted by PicasaGuest Design Team Member Mardi submitted this layout for the April Lift Challenge. Her layout is based on the attached sketch - "Page Map" by Becky Fleck.

Mardi said, "We surprised our great niece, Bailey with a kitten that she wanted so badly! The look on her face was priceless! I used all products from my stash: s.e.i. "kitty collection" patterned paper and journaling spot, DCWV cardstock, Technique Tuesday stamps, miscellaneous ribbon, buttons and a paper dollie."

Now it's your turn. You may even want to use this "Page Map". Check out all the details in the April Challenge, and see how you can become a Guest Design Team Member here at Scrap Our Stash.

March Challenge

Posted by PicasaGuest Design Team Member, Stephanie, had this to say about her March Old / New Challenge. "So, not too long ago I got some pretty roses and a card from the hubster. Also, not too long ago, I was in my LSS and I saw a set of stickers that I just had to have. (I'm getting somewhere, stick with me!) Last night, while the hubster was riding away on the exercise bike I snuck away to my craft cave and made this sweet card for him. A little background - this summer I went to the SF Museum Of Modern Art and I saw the famous Robert Indiana "LOVE" painting. I fell in love! Does that explain why I just had to have these stickers?Enough with the sappiness, here's the scoop on the card. It's for 2 challenges, the March Scrap Our Stash challenge and this week's Die Cuts R Us challenge it's a recipe - 3 jewels/buttons, ribbon, 2 die cuts, and one stamped image. I used my (old) first set of Nesties (labels 3) to make my two die cuts and couldn't keep my hands off of the fuzzy flocked paper in one of the (new) DCWV stacks I got for Christmas (Downtown Loft). I pulled the shades of brown from my (old) stash of cardstock and did the same with the ribbon. The stamp is from the drawer of doom (aka - clear stamps without backing live there) and I used Al A Carte embossing powder. My jewels/buttons are, in fact, jewels but you can't see them very well in this photo. There is a pretty heart one on the LOVE sticker and two little round ones accenting the embossed swirly. As you can see, I still can't tie a bow...but that knot is HOT!

So, this is the second layout (no title) of Kimmarie's daughter, Emma, getting her nails done at her Birthday Party. To see the original post go to labels - and click on March New Old Challenge, Kimmarie.

The Old embellishments are Sandy Lion Essentials stickers and purple ribbon. I have had these stickers for years and Emma asked me to put them on this layout which fit perfectly with this month's challenge.

The New goodies are pattern paper from Glitz Design Divalicious paper pack and rhinestones from Michaels.

Spring Mini Album by Tere
Posted by PicasaGuest Design Team Member Tere submitted this "spring" mini album for the Old/ New Challenge.
Here is her description: It has no pictures yet but has plenty of room to add them later.

For the old thing I used my Stammping Up Scalloped circle punch. It is one of the first punches I bought. The flowers on the cover are made by using the punch. I learned how to make the flowers by watching a video on You Tube!!!

For the new, I used free supplies I got from an online store, I know these are past collections, but they are new to me!

You can see more pictures on
my blog...plus I'm giving away the mini album... come and check it out!!

Now it's your turn. Send your New / Old project for a chance to become a Guest Design Team Member. See all the details below in March Challenge.

You Love Apples by Joni
Posted by Picasa
Design Team Member Joni created this cute layout of her son using the March Old / New Challenge. Here is her description:

New: Tim Holtz Crackle paint (red - used on letters & apple edge)
Old: "LOVE" chipboard frame-y thing.... I can't even tell you how old that is? Everlasting Keepsakes

Other items are "medium old" (not old, but not the newest stuff either): PP is October Afternoon, Chipboard apple is Maya Road, Chipboard alphas Thickers. Plain strips of chipboard to frame the PP & a Bazzill Just the Edge strip. Journal spot & accent are Jillibean Soup. I used "Teardrop Raindrops" by Cloud 9 for the seeds in the apple.

March Challenge

Cards by Megan
Design Team Member Megan has submitted these cards for the March Old / New Challenge.

She said, "I made some cards for another challenge, but I used old and new items so that they would work for this challenge too.

On the green polka dot card, I created the background with a new polka dot stamp set I purchased recently. The old part of this card is the apple stamp that I’ve had for almost 9 years. I also used some eyelets on this project to hold the lollipop. The saying on the front of the card says: “Don’t be a sour apple…” And the inside of the card says: “I think you’re sweet!”

On the circle card, I used some really old paper scraps from when I taught one of my first vintage classes and I paired it with some Jollee’s pear diecuts (also very old). The new parts on this card include the Making Memories journaling notebook page (I cut it up and only used part on this card) and the border punch is a newer purchase that I use all the time.

The next card says “I *heart* you more than chocolate” and I created it with some old chocolate chip paper I found on clearance several years back and I used a Heidi Swapp journaling spot (also older) for the first part of my title. I also used a border punch that is one of my favorites. The heart was created with a new punch and I added some new Rock Candy distress stickles to it. The ribbon and stamps I used for my title were also older from my stash.

This last card says “You’re so berry sweet”. I used an older House Mouse stamp and colored them with colored pencils and gamsol. The Making memories journal paper is new to me, along with the Rock Candy Stickles I added on the colored berries. I also used a glitter pen to write the word “berry” and the stamp “you’re so sweet” was an older stamp I have had for awhile, but never used yet, so I’m counting it as new.

Ride like the wind Bullseye - by Kathy
Posted by PicasaJust about everything is Old in this layout - except for Jonathan - he's only 3. These are actually pictures of Jonathan in "my Bullseye" costume. Did I tell you I collect Toy Story toys too!
The paper is of course ancient. The chipboard letters (and they are real chipboard) are new and so are the Thickers used for the rest of the title.

Meeting Cousin Eva by Monica

Posted by Picasa
Design Team Member Monica submitted this layout for the March Old/New Challenge. She said, "This lo has more old than new on it.

For the NEW I used my new Martha Stewart punch that my mom gave me for Christmas, I love it. Also the buttons are farely new, they came in a MM page kit.

For the OLD I used some old paper. I bought it over a year ago and had been saving it for who knows what? :) I thought it worked perfect with the colors that both kids have on. The stickers are old too. I actaully got them at a yard sale!! The lady owned a scrapbook store she closed, I got tons of great stuff.

The pictures are also from one year ago. My cousin came to visit from Florida and it was the first time our kids met! I used a NOV.09 pagemaps sketch for this lo."

Now it's your turn to take the challenge. See all the details in the March Old / New Challenge post.
