April Bring in the Sun Challenge by Amber

Reader Amber submitted this layout for the April Bring in the Sun Challenge. She said:

Hello! I am new to the site, but I have done a page for the challenge! I did this page of me and my fiance. I chose this pic because I cannot remember where we took it at, so I could not use it for a page documenting an event. I decided to use it as a page documenting how I feel about him. Thanks for the chance for me to share!
Scrappy Love!--

For me...sunshine means getting outside to play in the pool! Living in a warm climate means that I have tons of poolside photos to scrap. So, I was very excited to see that Scrap Out Stash's April challenge revolved around the sun. I started off by pulling out my pool and beach theme project folder. It is bursting at the seams with paper and embellishments perfect for scrapping water based activities. However, the more I looked at the photos I had chosen for this project, the more I knew that these were not the right papers to use this time.
Sometimes the story behind a page takes precedence over a traditional theme. This two page layout was just such a case. In the photos I had picked, my husband is pushing a raft up and down in the water to create waves for my son to play in. My son has come to refer to this as the Daddy wave machine. So rather than use traditional papers with a sun or pool theme,I decided to make things look a little more mechanical.

I chose a metallic silver card stock as the base. Splattering it with Sapphire blue glimmer mist gave the appearance of water. I staggered the photos in a diagonal line across both pages... giving it the appearance of movement, like waves moving up and down.I painted some Maya road gear shaped chipboard pieces with silver acrylic paint. I used a tuxedo black bic mark it to outline the cogs and gears. This gave it a little more detail and helped them stand out from the page a bit more. To make the word " wave", I hand cut some letters from the cover of a paper pad, then wrapped them in foil. I used Stream alcohol ink( from ranger) to give the turquoise color. I visually anchored the photos to the page using strips of recollections paper. and hand stitching. To make the appearance of waves in the machine, I used a template to trace a wave border onto a piece of blue textured carstock. it's been in my stash for awhile and was actually the only thing I used out of my project pack.

I used the same border template to make the journal strips. I traced it on a scrap sheet of white card stock, then moved the template down a bit and tracing the border again. I do recommend journaling before you cut out the strips. It makes it easier to write.

These are beach photos of my kiddos from last summer at Wrightsville Beach. Scrapping these really makes me want to drive there now, can't wait for it to warm up just a little bit more (although a cold day at the beach is better than a warm day at home!)

I loved this challenge because it gave me the opportunity to not only scrap these fun beach pics but to dig into my Fancy Pants Rusted Sun paper, love this stuff! I also used some Bazzill cardstock, Little Yellow Bicycle spinner chipboard sticker, and a misc. journaling spot. I used an Alison Davis sketch for inspiration--I don't know about you, but I have tons of sketches piled up, time to start using them!

Hello!

Here is my ‘Sunshine” layout featuring my beautiful 4 year old niece. I went with bright, sunny colours and these photos were taken on a beautiful sunny day, when we were awaiting the arrival of her new little sister who was born early that morning.

I rarely use bright papers, so this was a great challenge for using one of those ‘scary’ patterned papers that I never know what to do with. Great challenge!

Another 'was getting to it' picture... I love that Scrap Our Stash keeps coming up with *just* the right topic. We spent the day out at a local (-ish) Dinosaur 'walk-around' Theme Park then went for a picnic at nearby Chrysler Beach, after lunch the boys were water bound.
The coast line was beautiful and the beach was empty so we had it all to ourselves; made for easy picture taking.
You can see all 4 of my boys messing around at the waters edge just beside the cross with the Safety Float... and all that wide open sky!
I dug out the Summer Soiree by Fancy Pants kit for most of this page. Pattern Papers, Calvin & Hobbs Quote and 'The Sweet Days of Summer' Strip are from the kit. Brads are all BoBunny (along strip, in flower centers and above quote). The eyelets (green & suns) are unknown stash sh-tuff. The strip of rub-ons above the journaling are DaisyD.Fun in the Sun: August 2009

I sure hope April brings warmer weather to my corner of the world! This layout celebrates not only the sunshine, but Easter when I was a little girl. This was back when getting that new Easter outfit was still a big deal, even if you're only two and a half.
The idea for the rays of sun was inspired by this card. Need to give credit where it's due, right?
I took the cue for the color scheme from my little outfit, which included a new hat, coat, dress, purse and a yellow corsage from my dad. How sweet!

Pagerize Helena by Joni

Design Team Member Joni submitted this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge # 8.  She said:

I really liked the "feel" of Helena's layout, so I also used some paper that was solid, but distressed (Basic Grey).  I also liked the background stamp concept, so I used that and then added some doodles to the stamped image to match my photo.  I also wanted to keep the "grungy" feel I was headed for, so I framed the area with a metal chain (I stitched it on using clear nylon string....that took a long time).  I hung a couple embellishments from the chain to add interest.

This was my son allowing me to use his back as my canvas to practice my first attempt at a henna tattoo!

Frugal Friday Tip by Christy

Phrases Can Be More Than Meet the Eye

Every so often, the kits I choose come with a pre-made word or phrase that I find difficult to use. These will often then sit, unused, as I don't have a clue what to do with them. In this particular case, I had the word "girly" in the form of a rub-on. There is nothing really girly in my house (other than me and my female cat). Everything else is well...very much male dominated as I have a son, my wonderful husband and 2 other male pets. So the question was " when will I ever use this?!?"

Crate Paper Seasons rub-ons
The answer arrived while making my latest page. It's probably not new to some, but it's new for me. I could simply cut the word apart and use sections of it in the title!
Scraphappy.org March Inspiration Scraplift of Maggie Holmes'
" I Absolutely love your Laugh"
Using the rub-ons and a variety of letter stickers made the title more interesting and allowed me to use up an otherwise unusable item in my stash. I invite you to also think a little more out of the box with the words and phrases in your stash. You just might like what you end up with. If you use this tip - please share the results with us here at Scrap Our Stash. Send a picture along with a description to scrappinpsycho@live.com. We will post your project here.

Hi!  Well, I am really loving these challenges and the opportunity to use up my stash!! The sun theme got me thinking about the beach and so I dug out some beach embellies that I have had for over a year. Plus some BoBunny jewels and paper and I came up with a bright sunny layout of my daughter at the beach.
Thanks!

April Bring In The Sun Challenge by Mary Pat

Design Team Member Mary Pat submitted this card for the April Bring in the Sun Challenge.  She said:

Hi Everyone,
It is me, Mary Pat here to bring you my take on the April Challenge.  I have to say that I was at first very stumped by this challenge.  I had never included a sun before in any of my work.  I had been thinking about it and thinking about it all day and I was at a loss for what I was going to do.  I went to bed that night and I had a dream about a card with a sun and clouds with some rolling hills.  When I woke up I immediately sketched out my design.  I was so excited because I had just purchased this cute little bee stamp and I was set, and this is what I came up with:

I loved that I was able to use almost all my favorite things on this card: die cuts from my Silhouette, distress inking to make the sky, and coloring with my favorite copic markers.  I was in heaven creating this.

If you would like a closer look on this and for more details pop on over to Siehled With A Kiss
Thanks so much!

April Bring in the Sun by Kathryn

Design Team Member Kathryn submitted this layout for The April Bring in the Sun Challenge.  She said:  Scrap Our Stash Challenge theme is Sunshine. What a lovely challenge this has been during a chilly March, although the sun is shining as I type this, so lovely! Here is a layout of my daughter Emma, at about 20 months old here during our first overseas holiday in Mallorca in 2008. I have used the bright colours to reflect the sunny day at the beach (it was sunny, just doesn’t look it in these photos for some reason!), and to compliment Emma’s lovely bright swimming costume and Quack Quack the duck, which we still have! Recipe: · Making Memories Hilary Stamp shaped paper, with a selection of Bo Bunny yellow and orange dotty papers to make a sunshine background shape (Kitchen Spice and Ella Bella Blossom) · A mixture of Prima, Mulberry and other flowers in bright colours, highlighted with a variety of brads and diamond stickles. The flower pins are Maya Road trinket pins, which I love. I bought them recently passing a craft shop on my way down to my head office a few weeks ago (well I only made about an hour’s detour, lol) and I am desperate to get more of them in other colours. · I used a selection of bright ribbon and buttons to finish off and the title ‘Sun Girl’. I think the title is Papermania, but I gleefully throw all my packaging away all the time so I never have much idea who made some of my older stash!
Thanks!
Kathryn

Design Team Member Christine submitted this card for the April Bring in the Sun Challenge. She said:

I was excited about this 'sun' challenge and set to it straight away! I've made a card this time.

I tend to forget about my embossing folders and while I was having a tidy up I came across them and decided I should use them more often. I've gone for a simple design with scalloped bunting, faux stitching and a chipboard sun which I've sprayed with gold mist. I stamped the bottom section of my card using the same tea-dye distress ink which I use on pretty much everything! Finally, I added some butterflies with gems.

Meet April Guest Design Team Member Helena

Hi! My name is Helena and I'm originally Finnish but I moved to Italy some 30 years ago. I have 3 children, Kristina 27, Valentina 26 and Andrea 13, who are my major inspiration along with my very supportive hubby.

I discovered scrapbooking in 2005 and it was love at first sight. My style has changed and evolved during these past 6 years and nowadays I like to create layouts with more paints, mists and inks and less patterned papers and embellishments. I like to think that my children will enjoy all the albums I've made but, I scrapbook because I love the creative process. It is also very therapeutic and relaxing. You can find my creations on my blog: http://scrap4all.typepad.com/scrappassion/. Here is one of my latest layouts. It's about my son Andrea.

Meet April Guest Design Team Member Kathryn

Hi my name is Kathryn Adamson and I am really, really, really pleased to be a guest DT member this month for Scrap Our Stash! I have been scrapping now for nearly 4 years, since my little girl Emma was about 6 months old and I discovered my local craft shop and the rows of 12x12 paper. Since then I have also discovered a love for making cards and altering items, but my first crafty love is scrapbooking.

I live in the North of England and have been married to Dan for 7 years, we have Emma, 4 and two cats, Poppy and George. Emma will tell anyone who asks or who doesn’t ask for that matter, that George is fat and Poppy is little! My layout here is Emma when she was about 20 months old, sitting in my mum’s garden and making funny faces!
