July Red, White & Blue Challenge by Kathryn

Design Team Member Kathryn submitted this layout for the July Red, White & Blue Challenge.  She said:

Hi everyone, here is my entry for the Red, White and Blue challenge for July. First of all I struggled to not think of the Union Jack flag, I gradually realised I didn’t need to restrict myself quite so much! We have a bi-annual charity fundraising event in the UK called Comic Relief, where lots of comedians and other famous people lead and join in fund raising events for African and UK charity projects. The finale is a whole evening TV event called Red Nose Day and you can buy plastic red noses to wear. Maybe you have something similar where you are? Well here is my little clown wearing her red nose and posing for the camera. I had such fun making this layout, and I got a chance to use my red bobble ribbon to match Emma’s red nose. I have used Crate Paper and MME So Sophie papers, all distressed around the edges of everything using a Tim Holtz distressing tool. I added hand sown zig-zags, a few various ribbons and embellishments. The butterflies and flowers are from a lovely ephemera kit I won recently but I don’t know the make, so sorry, they came in a clear baggie! The large sentiment and the large flower are Cosmo Cricket papers. Have fun creating!

Red, White and Blue Challenge by Stacy H-W

Hello, it is Stacy here to share with you my July Red, White and Blue Challenge. I'm not sure there could be an easier challenge here in the U.S. for July since we celebrate our Independence Day and our colors are Red, White and Blue.

I have 5 kids and everyday they come home with some kind of artwork. I never know what to do with it all. I usually just pick my favorites and toss the excess when they aren't around. They usually forget about it after a while so don't notice. (or at least don't mention it)

The other day my 5 year old ds came home with the coolest piece of art. I decided it would be PERFECT for my Scrap Our Stash July Project! He painted this really cool "flag" at school and I just loved the look and texture of it. I asked him if I could have it and add it to my layout. Lucky for me he said yes. He was actually pretty thrilled. ha Now I will have this art preserved for all time and he will be able to look back and see what he made. Unfortunately the ironic thing is that he isn't on the layout at all! He was sick and didn't go to the parade. But at least his art made it on there! lol

So as I mentioned I ended up using some photos of 3 of my kids from the 4th of July parade in Edmond, Oklahoma last year. It was an overcast day and we were super lucky because it didn't start raining until right after we got in the car to leave!

Some other paper I used was We R Memory Keepers Yankee Doodles and The Paper Studio All Seasons pack. I fussy cut some stars out of a sheet from the Yankee Doodles and also used star Pillow Stickers from K & Co. -Americana.

It came together easy as pie. (is pie easy?!) lol

Now it is your turn to show us your July Red, White and Blue Challenge. See all the details HERE!

I used miscellaneous pattern papers to surround my grandson on his first fourth of July holiday. I also used jenni Bowlin tickets, my minds eye title, making memories metal word "sweet" DCWV sparking cardstock and stampin up' Jewels. Rick rack and misc. ribbon are also spotted on this page.

2009 London
Luckily red, white and blue are also the colours for the UK
I decided to make this LO about my son's trip to London with his Dad to watch Wimbledon- they also managed to take in a few sights while they were there
I was inspired by street party banners from the royal wedding on this LO- I used the red and blue on a white background and strung my banners across the middle of the page to line up with the photo of Stanley and big Ben (no my husband did not intend it to look like a hat. Yes it does look like a hat- yes my husband is a bad photographer).

As usual this is not limited to layouts - your project can be anything that has to do with the Challenge theme - preferably from your STASH. To take the challenge just email a picture of your Red, White &  Blue project along with a brief description to scrappinpsycho@live.com
Your project will be posted here on the blog and on July 31st, after midnight central time, a winner will be chosen. The winner will be offered a spot on the Guest Design Team for the month of September.
