August Re-Do Challenge by Wendy C.

Design Team Member Wendy C. submitted these layouts for the August Re-Do Challenge.  She said:

finally!! When I first started scrapping 13 years ago, I started with my wedding pictures. I have always wanted to re-do the entire album, now that there are embellishments to add to the pages.  My original page was soooo simple. We were engaged in Disney World, so we tried to add Disney into the wedding as much as we could. The picture of Mickey and Minnie was pulled right from a coloring book. I thought it was so simple and adorable as heck! So here is my re-do. Just a few more embellishments...lol. I can't wait to re-do more wedding pictures!! Details can be found on my blog. :)

Pagerize This Challenge # 13

Pagerizer # 12 Tammy chose Julie as our Pagerizer # 13. Julie Said:

Thanks so much Tammy for choosing my layout! I hope members will find inspiration from this page I did about our dog. When he was a puppy we were sure he would not be allowed on the lounge, but it turned out his desire to get on the lounge was greater than ours to keep him off! The two main elements to "pagerize" on this layout is the hidden journalling and the use of fun stamps for the title, journalling block and embellishments. The main photo is sewn onto the page on three sides, with the right hand side left open for a journalling tag to peek out. Notice the gold embossing, the little bit of bling on the crown and the colour purple. A layout fit for a king!

Julie

Each month on the 15th we will post a new layout for you to "pagerize" (plagerize, copy, lift, steal) whatever term you want to use. The idea will be - to use the posted layout as your inspiration to create your own layout. You can "pagerize" as much or as little of the original layout as you choose. You may want to make a layout just like the one posted - or you may just want to use something about the layout as your inspiration.

This challenge ends on September 12, 2011 at midnight central time. Then Julie will choose a winner from the submissions. The winner will become our next Pagerizer.

Once you've completed your layout - email a picture and brief description to scrappinpsycho@live.com . All entries will be posted here at Scrap Our Stash. The challenge runs through midnight central time on September 12th. The "Pagerizer" (in this case Julie), will then choose a winner from all the entries. The winner will be announced on September 14th. Then the winner will be asked to submit a layout for us to "Pagerize" starting on the 15th of September.

August Re-Do Challenge by Julie

Reader Julie submitted these layouts for the August Re-Do Challenge. She said:

Here is my version of the re-do challenge. The first layout, beautiful baby, was done years ago, very early in my scrapbooking days. It tells the story of the birth of my oldest son. It is very typical of my early style - no patterned paper (it took me ages to get the confidence to use pp), double and triple matting on hero photos, journalling and title done on computer and printed on vellum, hand-punched embellishments, multiple photos on a 2-page layout. Those cute little babies are actually made using a bear punch with the ears cut off!

My Re-do layout, Brand New Dad, was done very recently, uses just one of the photos from the original page and highlights a much smaller part of the story - how proud my husband was to be holding his newborn son for the first time. This page is pretty typical of my pages today - having the confidence to use multiple patterned papers on the one page, border punched strips, stamped flourishes, stamped vellum butterfly, title made using sizzix. I still like to do double page layouts covering major events and milestones, but I now also like to do this type of single photo pages as well. What hasn't changed is that I would still rather spend my money on tools such as punches, and stamps rather than one-off embellishments, and as much as possible I like to use off-cuts and scraps for photo mats and embellishments.

OOPS! July Red White and Blue Challenge by Jean

I just discovered Jean's submission for the July Red, White and Blue Challenge. OOOPS! I am soooo sorry.  This is what Jean said:

Hi there,

I just stumbled upon your site, and thought it was just what I needed, since I have, uurrrmmm, well..... a considerable amount of stash, shall we say? I did a little Red, White and Blue Christmas card (attached). I used an old Basic Grey collection - Blitzen. While I used some bigger solid pieces from the collection for the background panels, I also used the front cover of the collection (the sheet that has little thumbnails of all the papers in the kit) for my paper piecing and the little rectangles on the side of the card. The patterns are scaled down perfectly. Not sure if I'm explaining that too well, LOL! My blog post with the card is: http://bluebirdpaperie.blogspot.com/2011/07/christmas-in-july-snow-hugs.html

Thanks for the inspiration!

Here's my layout for the Pagerize Challenge. I do save quite a few tickets but rarely use them so this challenge was a lot of fun to force myself to first find and then use up some of those tickets. We watched this movie years ago during our big Southern California Vacation. I mostly used Fancy Pants It's The Little Things line. Thanks for a fun challenge!

August Re-Do Challenge by Joni

Hi everyone!!  Joni Parker here.... bringing you today's post!!!

So, for me "re-do" a layout is quite a stretch... So, as I really was thinking about it, I had a tip that I do that I wanted to share with you...  Not really a re-do, but kinda along those lines....

When I finish a layout....  I look at it, evaluate it (not like cross-examination or anything...lol!).... but as I'm looking at it, I ask myself these questions:

1)  What are 3 things that I LIKE about this layout.....
2)  What are 3 things that I DON'T LIKE about this layout....

Then, I mentally make a note of the things that I liked.... good to have those thoughts to use again later!!

Then I look at the things I didn't like...and I think... "Can I fix or change those things to make it better?"...sometimes I can't...and that's ok (again mental note for next time)...... But sometimes I CAN make a little adjustment or change that eliminates one of the "dislikes"....

So, with that in mind.... let me share this layout with you....
Now I scrap indoors, after dark and don't have natural light.....  so even after I took a picture of this layout, I didn't see anything wrong.   But then I loaded the picture on my computer and I went.. OH MY...that teal color tape DOESN'T MATCH COLORS AT ALL!!!!!   (See it above the word STORM & at the left edge of the border below the photo? ).....  YIKES!!

So, my quick re-do...... removed it and added some Tim Holtz tape in a neutral color....
Much better!!

So don't forget to take a quick look at your layouts and make an adjustment or two....or just make some mental notes for next time (good or bad!)....

Now it's your turn to take the August Re-Do Challenge.  Take the challenge and you could be chosen for our October Guest Design.  See all the details HERE!

Pagerize Tammy by Christy

Design Team Member Christy submitted this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge # 12.  She said:

We didn't get to go see the shuttle lift off in person. Like many, we watched it live on TV.  For a few days, it was all my son talked about. So it was definitely something I wanted to document. When I saw the current pagerize this challenge, I knew it would work well with the shuttle commemorative patch and the photo of my son at KSC.

Sometimes, it's difficult to find a sketch or page idea for using a 5x7 photo. Often, when I use 5x7's, I substitute it for 2 smaller photos as I did here. I also rotated Tammy's page to fit the orientation of my photo.
October Afternoon Rocket age paper, sticker and ephemera
NASA mission patch
DMC floss
Creative memories alphas with glossy accents
Since we did not attend the shuttle lift off in person, I went on-line and gathered some headlines which I will use for a second page later on. I plan to journal from the notes I took of my son's comments about the shuttle.  Newspaper clippings and personal thoughts are  a great way to document historic events in your scrapbook albums.

You still have some time to pagerize Tammy! See all the details HERE!  Don't forget to share your page with us here at Scrap Our Stash!

August Re-do Challenge by Wendy K.

Design Team Member Wendy K. submitted this project for the August Re-Do Challenge.  She said:

When I found out the theme for this month I thought I was in trouble. I am not one to go back and re-do any of my layouts. I'm just glad they got done in the first place! I decided to "do" a 10-Year album like the one I had made for my first child for my second 10-year-old. Let me tell you it was much easier the second time around! Here is the outcome:

You can see the entire album with details and my first album on My Scrapbooking Blog.

Pagerize Tammy by Wendy K.

Design Team Member Wendy K submitted this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge # 12.  She said:

Out of all the things I have to do today, I chose to scrapbook and this challenge seemed the perfect fit to finish some papers from a paper pack. I turned Tammy's layout before Pagerizing. I changed out the circle photo for journaling. After finding the journaling stamp I realized there was a ticket with that same set so I added that too! I kept the "pieces" title and I also copied her border (using a punch for the first time!). Full details on My Scrapbooking Blog.

August Re-Do Challenge by Sue

Design Team Member Sue submitted these layouts for the August Re-Do Challenge.  She said:

If nothing else, this challenge showed me how my scrapping style has changed over the years!
My Old Layout: Creative Memories album, chronological (Spring 1987), photos from a time frame of a few months. Not even going to talk about design.            It is what it is.

My New Layout: Library of Memories album, thematic (grandma's house), photos from a longer time frame, at least a year. Let's just say I'm happier with the design.

There's nothing "right" or "wrong" about either approach. I love both layouts because they capture precious memories. What I'm doing has not changed, only how I'm doing it. I'm perfectly fine with showing that evolution in my albums. Who knows where I might be five or ten years from now? That's what makes this hobby so much fun!

August Re-do challenge by Christy

Design Team Member Christy submitted these layouts for the August Re-Do Challenge.  She said:

I am generally not one to go back and re-do pages. I kind of get to a point in which I accept what I did and move on to the stacks of photos I have yet to scrap. However, there was always something about this next page which just begged for a little more attention.

Basic grey papers, border stickers, stickers from the
Max and Whiskers collection
Click here to see the page this was lifted from.

Overall, I liked the design. It was made for a Scraplift challenge last December at Sketches 4 all. The page has a lot of good elements in it. So I chose not to completely re-do the page, but rather to add in some of the missing details.

Pens and markers have become my go to product for giving pages a more finished look. I used my Bic Mark it in tuxedo black for faux stitching and for drawing basic lines. A paper piercer also helps give the impression that the stitching is real. The pennants seemed a bit bare so I chose to add some twine to add a little more dimension.  Hand stitching is another of my favourite ways to make a page feel more finished. Adding it to the darker patterned paper gave the page a warmer, cuddly feel.

So if you have a page that needs a little something more, I invite you to go back and maybe try adding a few small details with pens and markers. You might just find that a quick doodle or a drawn line adds a more polished feel to your page.

Guest Design Team Member Tammy submitted these layouts for the August Re-Do Challenge.  She said:

Attached is my August Challenge re-do, try not to laugh too hard when you look at my original!

I loved this challenge, especially when I came upon this page in my son's scrapbook from his baby years. I remember when I originally did this page years ago I had planned to put some journaling in that empty space in the upper left corner, but apparently I forgot or something. There is definitely no love lost on this page, so I happily re-scrapped it! I kept the same title and photos on my new one, but it has a newer (and trendier) look to it. The products I used were: cardstock--Bazzill; paper, cardstock stickers, buttons, and chipboard--Fancy Pants; letter stickers--Basic Grey. The photos are of my son on his first trip to the beach, he's 3 months old in the photos but will be celebrating his 8th birthday this month. He likes the new page too! Now let's see what you can do!

Pagerize Tammy by Wendy C.

Design Team Member Wendy C. submitted this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge #12. She said:

I tried to stick with Tammy's layout of her page, but my photos weren't quite working for me. I was finally able to pull out some memorabilia from our trip to the museum last year. One of the local banks had a set up to teach the kids about the importance of saving money and working with budgets. I loved this huge cutout of the $100 bill. And when we turned around....Ben Franklin was standing behind us! Unfortunately, he was handing out "fake" dollars....lol. So I added the "fake" dollars and the little fair info ticket to the page.

Thanks for a great challenge Tammy!

I finally decided on a LO to Re-do for my August challenge.

In the end it was almost by accident- I found some photos of Nancy posing for her passport photo when she was six months old and decided to make a LO- then I thought surely I must have scrapped this already- and I had! So here is a Lo I scrapped four years ago when I was just starting scrapping and a Lo from today- I'm not sure my scrapping style has changed that much but my supplies (and the amount of them) have.

August Re-Do Challenge by Stacy H-W

Hi! It's Stacy here with my take on the Scrap Our Stash August Re-Do Challenge. I decided to scraplift a layout I made of my wedding rehearsal dinner. I turned the "sketch" and used a photo of my dd.

I don't normally re-do my projects so this was actually a challenge for me. First I had to decide which layout I wanted to use for my inspiration. That took me forever! LOL But finally I settled on this one of my hubby and I.

Next, I had to decide which photo to use on the new layout. I am traveling and don't really have very many photos printed out here to use so I was happy to find this one of my dd.

I used paper from the Crate Paper Samantha kit. I used bling from Prima, alphas from My Mind's Eye, and buttons from Doodlebug Design Inc. The rest of the goodies were from my stash.

I like how it turned out. Maybe I will do this again sometime. How about you?? Ready yet to do the challenge for this month?? Go get busy because we are dying to see what you can show us!! lol

August Re-Do Challenge by Sindi

Guest Design Team Member Sindi submitted these layouts for the August Re-Do Challenge.  She said:

This first layout is an old one from my very early scrappy days. I wanted to do a layout about the view from our home right after we moved in. I still love the idea of cutting the pictures into lettershapes, and may do that again sometime. When I looked for a layout to Re-Do, this one jumped out at me because I felt I did not do the pictures justice.

This is my Re-Do. I am really happy with the way it turned out! I was able to use some letter stickers by My Mind's Eye that have been laying around for a while. I printed the picture three times and changed the coloring/saturation each time, and am loving the effect it created. This challenge was so much fun! As I was looking for a layout to Re-Do, I was able to see how far I've come and how much my style has changed. Big difference from then to now!

Thanks for the inspiration!

Pagerize This Challenge # 12

Pagerizer # 11 Joni chose Tammy as our Pagerizer # 12.  Tammy Said:

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I won! Sorry I'm just getting back with you, we are getting ready to go out of town so things are just crazy here! I've attached a layout I did including memorabilia. My challenge is:  I'm not sure about anyone else, but I am big on saving tickets to different events such as recitals, concerts, NC State basketball games, and rodeos, as well as my tags from races and artwork my children have done. Unfortunately most of the time these items get put in a box and forgotten about. Well I decided I wanted to pull some out and put them on a page. Here are some photos of my husband and two of my kids at a rodeo. The photos aren't the best quality because they were taken with my husband's cell phone, but they're still cute. The memorabilia I used were two of the tickets to the rodeo. So, my challenge to you is to pull out some of that memorabilia you've saved but have stuck in a box and put them on a layout for everyone to enjoy!

It's totally up to you. Submit your layout to scrappinpsycho@live.com.
This challenge ends on August 12, 2011 at midnight central time. Then Tammy will choose a winner from the submissions. The winner will become our next Pagerizer.

Once you've completed your layout - email a picture and brief description to scrappinpsycho@live.com. All entries will be posted here at Scrap Our Stash. The challenge runs through midnight central time on August 12th. The "Pagerizer" (in this case Tammy), will then choose a winner from all the entries. The winner will be announced on August 14th. Then the winner will be asked to submit a layout for us to "Pagerize" starting on the 15th of August.
