Pagerize This Challenge

Niko's 1st Day of First Grade by Kathy

I did something I don't usually do - I Pagerized Myself!  I really like this layout - so decided why not create it again with First Grade.  The only problem is - the big letters are Foam Thickers - which I do not have enough of to spell out the word grade... So, I can either leave it without the word grade - or I can buy new thickers (not) or I can use a different font - and just cut out the letters.  Not sure which to do.  What do you think?

Recently, I did a swap on Club Ck in which the goal was to exchange "baddies"...also known as products in less than mint condition. I received several rub-ons. I have a love/hate relationship with rub-ons. They don't always go on as you would like them to. Sometimes spots are missing or just look less than perfect. In this case, parts of the rub-on were missing right from the rub-on sheet.

I hate trashing anything, so, I pulled out a new and favorite stash item to fix them...Stickles.

The first step is to place the rub-on on your page in the desired location.

If parts of the rub-on are missing or broken, use a marker in a color as close as you can match, and fill in the missing parts. Just do your best.

                                    Notice how the black marker is not a direct match to the rub-on.

Next, apply stickles over the rub-on. The stickles hide any mismatched colors, pen strokes, or unevenness (if you are like me and can't perfectly match the font or shape of the rub-on).

In this case, I used diamond stickles. Coordinated color stickles or even perfect pearls would hide any imperfections and allow you to easily use a broken or imperfect rub-on."

"Pagerize This" Challenge

First Day of Kindergarten by Kathy is our first Page to be "pagerized" in our new "Pagerizie This" Challenge.

Each month on the 15th we will post a new layout for you to "pagerize" (plagerize, copy, lift, steal) whatever term you want to use. The idea will be - to use the posted layout as your inspiration to create your own layout. You can "pagerize" as much or as little of the original layout as you choose. You may want to make a layout just like the one posted - or you may just want to use something from the layout (such as the theme, or the color combination, or the way the title is attached). It's totally up to you.

Once you've completed your layout - email a picture and brief description to scrappinpsycho@live.com. All entries will be posted here at Scrap Our Stash and a winner will be chosen on the 13th of September. The Challenge will last until September 12th at midnight Central Time. The Original Scrapper (in this case it will be me) will select a winner. Then the winner will be asked to submit a layout for us to "Pagerize" starting on the 15th of September. Then on the 12th of October - the winner will be chosen by the winner of the September Challenge. And on and on it goes.

So your challenge - if you choose to accept it - is to use this layout as your inspiration. This challenge is in addition to the regular monthly challenge.

September Challenge - Joni

Joni used 4 different border punches to make her strips. 

She layered (popped up) some of the layers & weaved ribbon through one.

She also used a regular Heart punch to punch the hearts and then backed that strip with red.

Pagerize This - A Birthday Card

When I heard the word "Pagerize" for the first time in the crafty word, the first thought I had was "virtual or physical paging," but surely this had nothing to do with Operating Systems. Kathy from Scrap our Stash is hosting a new type of challenge called "Pagerize This." Best would be if you hopped over to the post that explains "pagerizing."

To be honest, I was a little stumped by this challenge, since Kathy's layout was just so brilliant in so many ways. What I fell in love with was the sequencing of the pictures. So I decided to center my concept on that. Combine that thought with the latest Embellish challenge, which called for squares, the concept of panels and sequencing started coming about. The other inspiration actually came from the sponsor's name and logo: Inchie Arts. I had this picture of a caterpillar inching along from panel to panel. But then I realized I didn't have any appropriate images to inch across the panels.

Luckily I had picked out some coordinating materials to fulfill the color portion. While mindlessly playing with an array of New Leaf Vintage Buttons, the idea hit me like an oncoming astroid. And a card was born:



To match the silver shiny sentiment, I threaded the buttons with silver twine. Some were four-hole buttons, others are two. Absolutely love how it just came together.

She said, "I have fallen behind on Lara's lifebook (bad mommy) but now that school is getting started I'm planning on getting caught up. I lead a lifebook group and the goal is to make one lifebook page a month. Here is a page I finished yesterday. The bit of orange blur near the stamp on the page is text I hid, as it is her information to share, not mine. I got lots of inspiration for this through challenge blogs. I used a sketch from Sassy 'Lil Sketches (love it!), the colors from The Play Date Cafe, pearls and lace from Simon Says Stamp, layers from Simon Says Stamp, and the border punch challenge here. The lace was originally white but I sprayed it with glimmer mist to match my color scheme".

September Challenge - Stephanie

This challenge was more of an opportunity for me. I finally had to man up (or woman up as the case may be!) and use my border punches that I've been buying but not using. (What can I say the punches scare me, but clearance doesn't!) I used two punches on this card there's an around the corner one on the green/purple polka dotted paper and a nice weave on the purple patterned paper at the bottom of the card. I had lots of flower mojo in me when I made this card (I think it had something to do with the lady sitting next to me at the crop I was at!) and felt that my mom deserved a lot of buttons and bling on this card.
I hope this card inspires you to step outside of your comfort zone and decorate some of your borders too! Now that I know the punches don't bite, you may just see a page with borders from me!

$$Frugal Friday Tip$$

Hello, It's me Tere . Today,  I have a little tutorial for decorative envelopes.  I love making my own embellishments for 3 reasons:
1. The original ones, tend to be a little bit  expensive,  
2.  It makes me happy :) and
3. My husband thinks he has a very frugal wife! :)

Let me show you a picture of the final product.

Supplies:

- Packaging paper. 

- Eyelets

- Crop-a-dile or any eyelet setter

- Buttons

- Thread

- Small circle punch or other shape ( I used a heart)

- Needle and thread 

1. Cut a rectangular piece of paper (the size depends on how big you want your envelope to be). Using a journaling block shape, one of those very popular ones; trace a decorative edge on one of the ends,  then fold the paper to form the envelope.

2. Punch 2 circles , or in my case, hearts. With the Crop-a-Dile. Punch one hole on the center of the decorative edge you just cut, and one on the other end of the envelope, and one on each of the circles.

3. Cut a 9" piece of thread.  We'll work on the decorative edge first. Place the thread on the punched hole, then your circle (heart), then the eyelet and set it in place. Do the same on the other end, this time with no thread.

Glue the envelop closed and tie the thread around the circles.  Easy right? Here is the first envelope:

4. For the next envelope, We are going to use scalloped decorative scissors,   If you don't have them, you can use a small circle to trace the scallops all around.

5. Repeat step #3, but this time you can use buttons instead of eyelets.

6. For the last envelope, repeat step #4. But now, using a paper punch, punch circles on each of the scallops. Repeat Step #3.  This is my favorite envelope!!!

You can use cardstock to make them too, I  justhappened to have some of this packaging paper.

September Border Challenge by Christy

Recently , I participated in Big Picture Scrapbooking's Big Idea Festival. I loved a lot of the projects, however, many of the supplies are just not available to me where I live. So what's a girl to do? Adapt, that's what. Make the design your own. so that's just what I did. I loved the look of Lisa day's bonus project and set out to use it with a series of photos about Junk-a-noo. What is Junk-a-noo you ask? It's a Bahamian tradition...sort of like Mardi Gras or Carnivale. It occurs every year around July 10th (Bahamian Independence day) and around Christmas. Unfortunately, we have never been. It occurs in the middle of the night and literally runs past dawn. While we have never attended, we do see many of the costumes and float decorations around the island. I snapped some photos of my son with those decorations and decided they would make a fun page.

Lisa's design is pretty evident in mine. I varied it by splashing some tiger lily and patina glimmer mist onto the background cardstock. I used some Crate Paper chipboard elements from the pink plum collection. Pages like these are a great way to slip in some girl colors without making the page look to feminine. I used some fussy cut elements from SEI's jocelyn collection to make the rosette's/round flowers and the border strip on the bottom. I cut strips of PP to make the scalloped border for the rosettes/flowers.

If you are like me, you may not have a lot of border punches. I simply don't have the storage space or the budget for them. In fact, I own only 2: an ancient fiskar's punch and an EK success notebook punch. So how did I make the border scalloped?A while back I saw this tip in Creating Keepsakes and I decided to try it... I took the guard off of my corner rounder, and then used it to punch down a strip of paper...which created a scalloped border.

Once you have the border punched, you can easily make it fit around a circle. This will work with any punch or strip of paper and is especially handy for heavier papers that are difficult to fold and pleat. Cut small slits in even increments along the strip. In my case, I chose every 2 scallops. Just be careful not to cut too far into the strip, or it may rip.

I chose to use glue dots to adhere the strip to the flower that I had fussycut. As you adhere each section, you can carefully bend and then slide the next section under the other.

This effectively produces a rounded edge with the strip.

I really enjoy the fun look to this page with the rounded borders. This could easily be done with a straight strip of paper or with most border punch designs.

The borders along the sides of the photos are made with Pink paislee artisan tape. I simply folded it as Lisa had in her design and I hand Stitched over it .

Pagerize This Challenge

Guest Design Team Member Christy submitted this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge. She said, "I was instantly inspired by the flow of Kathy's page. I felt the design would work perfectly with photos I had taken of my son making wishes on dandelions. Having a boy, it's often hard to use paper or items with floral designs. I had some paper from a June kit with flowers all over it. I loved the bright happy feel of the paper and felt that I could use it on this layout since the dandelions were part of the main focus. If I had used green paper, I think the page might have had a more spring feel. I chose the dark orange cardstock because I felt it gave the page a more masculine tone and a more summer feeling color palette. Orange, coincidentally, is one of those colors I don't use often. I have a lot of it in my stash. If you have a color like that in your stash, try finding way to use it as an accent color to other papers, as I did here.

I cut the title on my cricut using a font called "a red bucket." Since the paper had glitter accents, I added diamond, fruit punch and orange peel stickles to the title and the doodlebug "jellishments." I liked the bracket on Kathy's page, but chose to make mine out of vellum. This helped tone down the loud print. The lady bug ribbon is cute world by Autumn leaves. It's one of those impulse buys which each and everyone of us tends to have. I am so glad I could find a use for it here.The green ribbon is Stampin' up.

There are some frugal touches to my page that many of you might find useful. The first being the white photo mattes. The photo of the flower printed perfectly with a white edge around it. I chose to simply crop the photo with some of that white border remaining. This is both a time and paper saver.The mattes for the photos of my son are made from cricut scrap pieces.

You would never know that there were cut outs behind the pictures. I do this to save on paper. For those pieces I don't use for mattes, I cut them down into strip for borders or journal strips.

The flowers were part of a "baddies" swap I did with a fellow scrapbooker. She just did not know how to use them. While they were cute and the flocked aspect of them was nice, they were a little worn looking and dull. I used my stickles on them to change their color and dress them up to match the page.

Try using stickles in coordinating colors. I used the orange peel on the yellow and the fruit punch on the purple flower.

Since this was a page about my son making wishes and I did not know what his wishes were, I chose a simple quote which I felt reflected the page. It reads: " Our inventions mirror our secret wishes." When you are unsure of journaling or need a little extra feeling to a page, quotes are a simple solution.
