May Challenge

Graduation Card by Laurie

Design Team Member Laurie submitted this Graduation card that she created for the May "Get Out Of Your Box" Challenge. She said, "For this project I finally used one of those famous distress inks! I got the pine needles distress ink for my birthday earlier this month and thought it only fitting to create a card for the giver with it. This is fellow DT member Stephanie's graduation card I made for her. I followed the ink application and water spray technique showcased in THIS video by Jennifer McGuire. I enjoyed using the distress ink so much that I've already purchased three more colors and plan to watch the whole series of tutorials for more inspiration. Now my next step will be to use them in my layouts!

Now it's your turn to take the "Get Out of Your Box" Challenge. Just create something that is out of your usual - and submit it to scrappinpsycho@live.com for a chance to become a Guest Design Team Member here at Scrap Our Stash. Check out all the details below in May Challenge.

Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge

The Thrill of the Hunt by Amy

Here is Design Team Amy's take on the Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge. She said, "Instead of using patterned paper to create the stripes, I used glimmer mist and a paper towel to blend the colors together. The Egg die cut is also sprayed with glimmer mist to match the egg that my son is picking up in the picture"!

How to make your own glimmer mist masks by Amy

I used my cricut machine to cut out different sizes of snowflakes as my masks. You could use any type of die cut, it doesn't have to be from a cricut machine. I chose to use a cardstock color that i usually don't use for my masks. If you chose a color that you like you could not only use them as a mask but use the die cuts with another project!

Next I chose a neutral color background cardstock. Lighter colors show the mist better. Also, note that textured cardstocks tend to be more absorbent than non-textured. I used a repositionable adhesive, Zig 2-way glue. I just dabbed the glue on the tips of the snowflake so that they will stay flat during spraying.

Remove your die cuts and reveal your cute and custom patterned paper!!!

Now it's your turn to try this. Just send a picture along with a brief description to scrappinpsycho@live.com
and we will post it here.

Do you have a frugal tip you'd like to share? Please email it to scrappinpsycho@live.com - you could be featured as our next Frugal Friday Tip.

May Challenge

Bloom where you are planted by Kimmarie

Posted by Picasa
Design Team Member Kimmarie submitted a second project for the "Get Out of Your Box" Challenge. Here is what she said, "I took this picture of my daughter, Sara last Mother's Day. I try to always find a color in a layout that I can use as a focal color for my layout. I was going to use the pink from the bush but my cousin talked me into using the purple on Sara's shirt so it would stand out. I didn't have any purple pattern paper at all because I never scrap with purple, just not my style. She had just recently purchased a DCWV 8 x 8 paper pack (I forget which one it was) but it came with these purple papers so she gave them to me to use. I also used Stampin Up Ink, Punch and a White Rub-on.
Thanks for looking, now it's your turn to do something Outside your box, or use something that you normally wouldn't use.
Don't forget to vote for the Spring Cleaning Challenge winner - and leave a comment or follow for a chance at the May Flowers prize package from our Sponsor "A Little Bit of This and That" - see all the details below.

Graduation Card by Kimmarie
Posted by PicasaDesign Team Member Kimmarie made this graduation invitation for her daughter's high school graduation. This is what she said, "I do make cards, but never invitations. It is so different for me is because I did not ink, sand or distress any part of the card or insert. The only ink on the invite is the stamped graduation cap and the info that I printed from my computer on the insert. This card is very clean cut for me. I do have to admit, I am very happy with the way it turned out. The products that I used are Stampin Up' cardstock, blue writer to color stamp and punch for the pull tab, MM brad, stamp unknown and Tim Holtz new Alterations Movers and Shapers bigz diecut. "

I Love You by Amy

Posted by PicasaDesign Team Member Amy created this layout for the "Get Out of Your Box" Challenge. She said, "I've used glimmer mist in the past, but i was always "safe" in the way i used it. Recently, i volunteered at a scrapbook convention and one of the classes i volunteered in was a tattered angels class. I learned so many cool ways to use glimmer mist! Suddenly, i wanted to mist everything!!! I created this layout by first making my own masks using my cricut. I adhered my masks to the cardstock and sprayed the whole thing with "black magic" glimmer mist. I used a paper towel to soak up some of the excess and took my masks off. And that is how i created my very own custom patterned paper using glimmer mist. I just accented the snowflakes with jewels, glitter and glossy accents and finished my page"!

Amy was so excited about Glimmer Mist - that she is providing a bottle as a Prize. The winner will be randomly chosen from any reader that submits a project for the May Challenge.

Now it's your turn to take the challenge and become eligible for the prize. See all the details in May Challenge below.

April Challenge

Altered Frame by Kimmarie

Posted by PicasaDesign Team Member Kimmarie submitted this altered frame for the April Lift Challenge. Somehow I missed getting it posted in April, so here it is now. This is what Kimmarie said about her frame. "This time I decided to alter a frame like Monica did. I love to alter anything wood. So easy to work with. Again, I used Zip Dry glue to adhere the paper to the frame added some ribbon and sticker letters with a nice picture of a bunch of scrappy friends I met about 7 years ago online and we finally were able to get together about 5 years ago. I love to create simple things to show off my pictures and memories.
If you have a project from any of the previous challenges that you were unable to share - we'd love to share them now. Just send a picture to Scrappinpsycho@live.com with a brief description and what tell us what challenge it is from.

Catch Up Sunday

This post is to help you catch up on what's happend this week at Scrap Our Stash.

The May Challenge is to "get out of your box". We've had several interesting takes on the challenge. Monica used patterned paper from several different manufacturers for her layout. Joni, who doesn't do cards - did a cool easel card. Brittney who usually uses solid cardstock for her background used patterned paper, and Megan used purple for her layout, which is very unusual for her. What box are you in? Check out May Challenge for all the details on the challenge.

Our Frugal Friday Tip for this week was DIY popdots by Rachel. What an interesting concept to pop-up elements on your page, with scraps of cardstock.

We have 2 contests going on. The Follow Me Contest. Just become a follower of Scrap Our Stash and/or leave some comments. Each comment gives you a chance to win our Prize Package from our Sponsor "A Little Bit of This and That". We'd love to have you follow.

The Spring Cleaning Challenge entries have all been re-posted together - scroll down to Spring Cleaning Challenge to see all the entries. Please vote for your favorite. Winner will receive the Stampin' Up prize packet donated by Design Team Member Kimmarie.

May Challenge

Coffee Queen by Megan

Posted by Picasa
Former Design Team Member Megan submitted this layout for the "Get Our of Your Box" Challenge. This is what she had to say about her project. "I don’t use much purple for myself on layouts…my daughter LOVES purple, and I don’t hate it, but I don’t usually focus on the color purple. So I took a challenge to use the color purple and a “royal” theme and this is what I came up with. Note my purple coffee mug in the pictures…I don’t hate purple, but I don’t usually use it on my layouts.

What box are you in? Come take the challenge to do something outside of your box. See May Challenge for all the details.

Also, don't forget to vote for the Spring Cleaning Challenge winner - and become a follower or leave a comment to be in the drawing for the prize package from our sponsor - A Little Dash of This and That. See more details below.

DIY Pop Dots by Rachel
Last week I found myself without any foam pop dots and I decided to make my own. Here is how I did it: Two strips of cardstock with adhesive:

Fold the cardstock on itself until you reach the desired thickness:

You will have a small piece of cardstock such as this, apply the piece of cardstock to the desired surface:

You will have a fabulous popped up flower

May Challenge

The Louvre Museum By Brittney
Posted by PicasaGuest Design Team Member Brittney completed this layout for the "Get out of Your Box" Challenge. This is what she had to say about the challenge. "This was a little difficult for me because I pretty much have a set way of scrapping. I know what I like and I stick to it! So, I took a look back at my previous layouts, and I realized that they all use cardstock as the base. So, I looked around for a nice piece of patterened paper for this layout"!
What Box are you in? Why not accept the challenge and do something different. Check out all the details in May Challenge below.
And don't forget to get involved in the Follow Me contest - just become a follower and/or leave comments and each time your name will be entered in the drawing for the prize provided by our Sponsor "A Little Dash of This and That". See all the details in the Follow Me post below.

May Challenge

Thank You Easel Card by Joni
Posted by PicasaDesign Team Member Joni created this card for the May "Out of Your Box" Challenge. This is what she had to say, "OMG...I made a card...and it turned out pretty nice too. Now, this is outside my box because I don't DO cards. I don't really want to...I'm a scrapbooker. Ok, but this is cute...and I made it for my son's Kindergarten teacher for the "end of the school year". I keep seeing those "easel" cards...so I tried it. Here it is (folded on the easel). Now, I've got to be honest here...since I don't DO cards....this card took me about 3 hours to make. (longer than most scrapbook pages) .... I gues getting outside your box takes time and patience. Ahh...big sigh. "
Design Team Member Tere provided this Ytube Link to a Easel card Tutorial. HERE

May Challenge

Say Cheese by Monica

Posted by Picasa
Guest Design Team Member Monica submitted this "Out of the box" project. She said, "I tend to scrapbook using one brand of paper because I always want my papers to coordinate. SO I challenged myself to use three different brands of paper and no card stock. I still managed to pick papers that went together very well. I used old Li'l Davis designs, 3 Bugs in a Rug and Making Memories. I also used a variety of embellishments on this page. I really like the way it turned out. These pictures were taken by my very talented friend Michelle Lanning."

Now it's your turn to "get out of your box" and accept the challenge. See all the details as to how to submit your project for a chance to win a spot on the Guest Design Team in May Challenge below.

Catch-Up Sunday

Wow here it is May already. Here at Scrap Our Stash we finished out the month with lots of activity. Four Design Team Members shared their April Lift Challenge. Joni and Kathy shared layouts which they Lifted, Kimmarie shared a tin that she lifted, and Robin shared a layout she did using a sketch. So, there were lots of additional projects for you to use as inspiration.

Our Frugal Friday Tip was from Wendy, and gave a tip on how to get just the right color of paper to use . What a great idea when you don't have the option of going shopping for that perfect paper! This is a great way to use your stash also. We are always looking for frugal tips - send yours to scrappinpsycho@live.com and you could be featured on SOS in the near future.

Former Design Team Member Megan, submitted her After pictures for the Spring Cleaning Challenge. This was a fun challenge that gave some of us just the encouragement we needed to get our scrap area back in shape. Voting for the prize will begin soon. Watch for further details.

On Thursday you were introduced to our May Guest Design Team Member - Brittney. Be sure to check out her bio and the layout she shared. Were looking forward to sharing lots more of Brittney's projects with you during the month of May.

Christine was our winner of the April Challenge. Her project was a lift of a layout by her talented sister :). Christine will be our Guest Design Team Member in June.

Our May "Get out of your Box" Challenge was announced on Saturday. I think this will be a fun challenge to participate in, and am anxious to see what "box" you will be getting out of, and the results. Design Team Member, Guest Design Team Members and Readers' samples will be posted thoughout the month for inspiration. Be sure to check back regularly. A winner will be chosen from all reader submissions, and given the opportunity to be a Guest Design Team Member for the month of July. It could be YOU!

BIG NEWS:

We now have our first Sponsor. A Little Bit of This and That. Check out the description of the prize offered this month. It is in the sidebar with a link. Stay tuned to SOS - details of the contest will be announced soon.

Our April Guest Design Team Members, Laurie, Mardi, Rachel and Stephanie have all been asked to stay on as Guest Design Team Members. So we will all be able to continue to enjoy their talent for the next 3 months.

Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge - will start May 15th. Guest Design Team Member Robin, has agreed to create a exclusive sketch for Scrap Our Stash each month. Our first sketch will be posted on the 15th of May. Readers are encouraged to use the sketch and submit their version by June 15th. A winner will be chosen, and given the opportunity to serve on the Guest Design Team for the month of July.

Have a great first week of May!

March Special Spring Cleaning Challenge

Before by Megan

Posted by PicasaDesign Team Member Megan submitted these pictures of her scrap space "Before".
Now it's your turn. Take the Challenge and join us for our Special Spring Cleaning Challenge.

Spring Cleaning Challenge

After by Megan

Former Design Team Member Megan said, "I finally got everything put away and reorganized in my SB room and wanted to submit my “after” pictures too.

My SB room has several “purposes” for me. It’s my office, scrapbook room and also my laundry room, so I can say that it does get quite a bit of use! The main pictures of my big desk show where I sit to work on the computer and do my other office type work (I have lots of school papers and other things I work on here at this desk, but trust me, this is WAY more organized than it was earlier). I also took pictures of my smaller stamping area (the counter top between the big tall IKEA cabinets). The other area of cabinet base drawers is where I store my embellishments by color, my punches, my paper cutter and some more of my tools. It’s nice to be able to see the top of that counter again! The main area I had to work on for this clean up was the horizontal surfaces…things get piled on the countertops and desk and I had to find a home for them or purge them. As I’m also getting ready to study again with a class coming up this summer, I had to find room for my textbooks and notebooks, so they now have a temporary “home” on my desk until I’m finished with that.
It's still not to late to submit your pictures. Deadline is midnight April 30th. Check out all the details in Spring Cleaning Challenge below.

Spring Cleaning Challenge

After by Monica

Posted by Picasa

Here is what Guest Team Member Monica had to say about her Spring Cleaning.
First I cleaned up the horrible mess of ribbon that I had. I was able to weed through my jars and get rid of some stuff that I saved off gifts and other misc. things. I cleaned up the ribbons that I have in my 3 drawer container. The ribbon jars are on the top shelf of my computer desk, away from my son's little fingers! Next to my desk are the white stacked shelves that hold misc. embellishments and other supplies. I filed all the papers that were in front of it. And the most improved area is my dining room, where I scrap. I was able to put everything away that was on the plastic table I had under the window before. I cleaned up one side of my fireplace shelves and have all scrapbooking stuff there. Well as much as I could. The top shelf is all my papers. I got these wicker backets at Target to kind of hide my tool bag and other misc. plastic bins. I really would have liked to have it all in one place but for now this will do!

Now it's your turn - send your before and or after pictures by April 30th. See all the details in Spring Cleaning Challenge below.
