March GREEN Challenge by Sarah

...aaaand it's another 'Lucky' Layout!
Why mess with a great theme? lol

The pictures for this layout were taken over (Canadian) Thanksgiving weekend in 2011 at a local Apple Orchard. Every year we go to pick apples on the last day it's open. Thanksgiving Monday = 1/2 price pick-your-own! yum. We (read: my boyz) also do the corn-maze and hay-jumps, this year due to health issues I had to sit out and wait. While sitting in the field, poking around I found 3... 4 leaf clovers. Must be *some* fertilizer they use! ;O)
Background paper is K & Co which 'luckily' matched the Little Yellow Bicycle 'Lucky Me' stuff I had bought to do our wedding album. Of which I have maaany dupe, trip and many more-lacates. The stripe with the sentiment and diamonds is part of a LYB 12X12 patterned sheet. Lucky and Lucky Me 'signs' are Clear Cut foil accents. Strip of clover across is a sticker, cut to go around the sentiment stripe.
Was thrilled to be able to work one of the actual pressed and dried clovers into the layout. I started with a round LYB journal block, layered round stickers over top then after cutting the clover to fit in the 'hole' I coated the inner circle in 3D Crystal Lacquer. This was left to dry for 2 days because it's laid on THICK to create a bubble look. Better safe than sorry!
Final touches were stick-on gold braid, part of an auction lot I got of vintage sewing stuff and a few Gem stickers along the sentiment stripe.
Isn't it great when Mother Nature provides the embellishments? Now I ask you, What's more GREEN than that? huzzah!

March GREEN Challege by Stacy

Hello everyone!!  Stacy here today and I want to show you a Purse gift bag I made for this months Green Challenge.



I started with an Anthony & Burt - My Heart Belongs To You stamp set from Crafter's Companion which I stamped out and colored with my new ridiculously reasonably priced Spectrum Noir alcohol ink markers.  See...Burt is green!!!!   lol



After coloring the image I fussy cut those little rascals out and set them aside.  Next I stamped out the sentiment and used my Cuttlebug and some dies to cut graduating ovals. 



I want to show you how I made the "purse".  First I started with a 12"x12" piece of pattern paper. I turned it over and marked my lines on the back of the paper.  Most of the measurements are 2" so it is easy to remember.  Start by marking a horizontal line halfway down the paper at 6".  And another two horizontal lines 1 inch to either side of this line you have made at the middle of the paper. (these will be fold lines)



Next you will measure two inches in from each side and make two vertical lines.





To make those slanted lines you should measure from the outer horizontal lines 2 inches and then draw the line up into the corner where the vertical line and the horizontal line meet.  Do this at all 4 corners around the page.  (see the photo)



Next you will need to score all of these fold lines.



Now fold and adhere the sides.  I added ribbon for the handles by punching a hole through the side of the bag and adding a brad through the bag and ribbon.  Decorate your bag however you like.   I edge punched card stock to finish off the top of the bag and then added the stamped image and the sentiment.

March GREEN Challenge by Angela

Green is one of my favorite colors, so I was excited to dive into this month's challenge! I went with an olive-y green (my favorite shade), paired with this cute instagram photo of my hubby (wearing green) and one of our cats (who has [how convenient!] green eyes).



I hit up my stash for some green and came up with some older Cosmo Cricket papers (from Girl Friday and Boyfriend), plus some touches of yellow from an old Basic Grey doily, some old Sassafras alphas, and a totally random brad. The newest items are the kraft alphas (Pebbles) and border sticker (Studio Calico), along with the white-embossed stamp (Studio Calico/Hero Arts). Some bits of stitching here and there and I called it good!

Since green is one of my favorite colors, this month's green challenge was fun (and easy!) for me. I recently saw instructions for an adorable tea bag dispenser, so I had to make one for myself for my kitchen. (You can find a link to the tutorial on my blog if you'd like to try one too.) It was so fun to make! The colors of the Stella paper pack from Close To My Heart are so vibrant. I probably would have never paired Olive and Lagoon together on my own.

I was so excited when I received the details for this month's "Green Challenge"! The photo is of me as Elphaba (aka The Wicked Witch). It's been sitting in my stash for around 18 months waiting patiently to be used on a layout. I've had the Wizard of Oz papers for around the same amount of time so as soon as I saw the challenge details I knew they'd make the perfect combination. I also used rub ons and a little dimensional magic on the ruby red shoes.

In December, I participated in Tim Holtz' twelve tags of Christmas.While I did make many of the projects, I really never got around to sharing all of them. One of my favourite projects were these little metal tags he made using sheets of craft metal. I don't have any craft metal. What I did have were some soda cans. So, since march is about green things over at Scrap Our Stash, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to finally share how I recycled the cans to make some very cool metal embellishments. How do soda cans relate to green things? Well, I am being green by recycling.See how one can twist a challenge around!!!
Anyway...you are going to need an old pair of kitchen shears. I keep a pair around just for the purpose of cutting thick cardboard and metal. Soda cans are your next item. Be sure to wash them out. I recommend letting them dry a bit too, or you may spill water all over your work space. Take a dry can and carefully cut a slit into it.

Now for the next part, you need to be VERY careful. The edge is a bit jagged you don't want to cut yourself. Also, as you cut, try to make slow, even cuts. This way, you reduce the chance of having metal shavings fall off. Insert your scissors into the slit and carefully cut the top off the can. You can use one hand to depress part of the can as you go, allowing the scissors to fit in the slit and cut more evenly.

Now that the top is off, cut a slit down one side toward the bottom. This will allow you to more easily cut and remove the bottom of the can.

You will then have a somewhat curled sheet of metal.If one side it jagged, you may wish to trim the ends to leave a nice even cut. If it's damp, dry it a bit with a cloth. You can now die cut it or emboss it as desired. I chose to use my scissors and I hand cut a few tag shapes.

Once your metal piece has been embossed, you can begin paint it. I used acrylic craft paint. Some paints cover better than others. Experiment with different types to find the look you wish to achieve. I did find that some of the paint began to peel. This is ok. It will add to the grunge look you are going for. You also need not worry if your paint job is perfect. As you can see, mine is not totally even.

Your next step is to sand down the tag. This will reveal some of the metal beneath it while leaving other areas covered. I used a nail file.

Now, carefully wipe any dust off, then stamp over the metal tag with a distress ink pad. Then cover with clear embossing powder and heat. The result is a wonderful metal enamel embellishment. The clear embossing powder seals the paint in and prevents it from any further peeling.

You can then choose to add additional embellishments to the tag.

I knew exactly what I wanted to scrap when I heard we were doing anything green. I had the opportunity to go to Ireland with my parents in 2002. It was a very fun trip. Here is one of the castle's that we visited. I used several photos because I didn't want any detail left out. I used food coloring on the wooden heart because I was at the cabin and only had white paint. LOL It worked! Paint is used on the edges and the border. I made a giant tag for journaling. I have a little stash of supplies at the cabin so I grabbed whatever would work. Buttons, trims and all. Fun challenge. Hope you will be inspired as well.

I really don't like to scrap with the color green so I interpreted this green as in recycling.  I altered a Laughing Cow cheese container (anyone on Weight Watchers will recognize this!)  Here's what it looks like before:

I painted it first with Making Memories paint inside and out.  
Then I just covered with papers and embellished.  The flowers were made with the Close to My Heart Art Philosophy cartridge which I am so in love with and has made my Cricut pay for itself.  I didn't use Mod Podge to cover it because it is thin cardboard and I am afraid that it may warp.  It did a little when I painted in (around the inside rim) but not bad.  My daughter wanted this container for her scrapbook desk but it could also be used for jewelry or a set of circle cards or many other things.  Full details on My Scrapbooking Blog.

"Lucky Me"

Supplies for this layout included a swap item that I had held on to since "2001", it is the little Leprechaun and pot, I added the money to the back of it, and the bling dots. It was made by Donna Curruthers, but it fit this page perfectly and since I had kept it for so long I thought it needed a "real home" on a layout, and it fit this month's theme perfectly. On the title, and on the photo of Buddy, you'll find a tiny $ sign, that was really a part from a set of earrings. The top photo is from the actual ticket. The scalloped border on the bottom was purchased from the school supply section of our local Dollar General, I just inked the edges a little to tone down the color some. Since St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner I thought I'd try making a layout with that in mind. The journaling on this page reads:
Buddy took a leap of faith and bought a lottery ticket. He won! Since his ticket said "Jumbo" it multiplied his prize five times. So he won $500.00.
