Flower Challenge by Christy

Design Team Member Christy submitted this layout for the August flower challenge, and I failed to post it on time.  So here it is now.  She said, "For this page, I chose to use Sketch 211 from Scrapbook Challenges. I chose paper from K and company's Poppyseed collection. I liked the turquoise with the pool photos. Since I have a boy, I liked being able to slip in some purple accents.Purple is just not a color I usually scrap with. I had recently taken a a class called Fabulous Flowers over at Scrapbook challenges and my flower is a variation of the technique I learned there.

Photo one: You will need the following supplies: your choice of crepe paper, ribbon or cloth. Needle and thread, and scissors. I also have a scallop border that I use to trace for my scallops. Border punches do not work well with all materials. If you do not have a scallop stencil, you can punch one out of cardstock and then use that as your stencil.

Photo 2: using your stencil, trace a scallop border about 7 inches long. Cut it out of the material.

Photo 3: sew a running stitch along the edge of the flower. You can gather it at the end if you wish. I find it easier to gather it as I go along. You will need to be very gentle if you are using a delicate material. in this case, I was using a plastic type ribbon, so I had to go very slowly so i would not rip the material.

Photo 4: you will end up with a stitched flower shape. repeat this as many times as you wish to get the fullness of the flower you desire. The material you use may dictate how many layers you want to make.

Once you have several layers, you can sew them together or use adhesive. In this case, I used a K and company brad. You could also use gems, buttons, or chipboard."

Now it's your turn to take one of the 3 challenges out there now:  September border Challenge - Pagerize This #2 by Joni - or Frugal Friday Tip Challenge.  See all the details below.

August Challenge

Nothing like the last minute to enter right??!! lol

Guest Design Team Member Stacy submitted this layout for the August Challenge.  She said, "I really had fun making this layout of my sweet daughter. This picture was from a recent trip we took in our RV. She was just happy and looking at me over her shoulder and I think it is super sweet, and shows what a beauty she will be when she grows up.

I used some pp from My Minds Eye - Spectrum Cools. I also used some more pp from MME - Deena's Penny Lane.

My mom crocheted the flowers. I made the flower I put under one of her crocheted flowers out of pp that I punched out with a scallop punch. I then cut along every two scallops and crunched it up a bit and layered them with the crocheted flower on top. I added some buttons from my stash.

I used a sketch from Sketchy Thursdays recent sketch challenge. Isn't it a great sketch??!!

I added a little purple bling and a couple of ornamental paper clips with charms on them.

I also cut out the title using my Cricut. The cartridge I used was the Cutting Up Cartridge.

This was a fun challenge to do and I have loved seeing everyone else's takes. Can't wait until next months challenge is posted!! Stacy H-W

August Challenge

Indulge by Kathy
Posted by PicasaI did another layout using the same flowers I had done before, but this time I actually spritzed them with water and them crumpled them.  Then when they dried I inked them with distressing ink.  I really like the way they turned out.  Also, this layout is made from all scrap paper, except for the background sheet!

Hurry, there is still time to participate in the August Flower Challenge.  Send your project along with a brief description to Scrappinpsycho@live.com.  See all the details below in August Challenge.

August Challenge

This layout was submitted by Design Team Member Monica for the August Flower Challenge.  She said, "My flower is very simple. I cut out 4 circles all just a little bit smaller than each other and then crumbled them up a little. I then attached them to the page with a brad. This was my first attempt at any type of flower so I chose something fairly easy. I really like how the whole lo turned out"!

You still have an opportunity to get in on the August Flower Challenge.  Just submit your project to Scrappinpsycho@live.com and you could be chosen to be a member of our October Guest Design Team.  See all the details below in August Challenge.   And don't miss our "Pagerize This Challenge" - see all the details below.

August Challenge

Design Team Member Laurie submitted this layout for the August Challenge.  She said,  "This August Challenge was a little bit of a true challenge for me. Looking back on my previous layouts, I actually notice that I don't put too many flowers on my pages. I did want to try out a handmade flower tutorial though, so I made an exception on this page and made sure to leave room for a flower. I did the tutorial found here

Don't miss participating in the August Challenge - see all the details below.  You may also want to take the "Pagerize This Challenge" also.  Details are below.Posted by Picasa

August Challenge

Guest team member Stephanie had this to say about her August Flower Challenge submission:

I was so excited to do flowers for August because I knew that I could take this challenge as an opportunity to crochet something other than blankets! I crocheted the two flowers out of hemp string for my card and used the rest (plus some fun purple!) to make a nice ribbon-chain to match. I also used Staz-On metallic inks for the first time on a piece of mirrored purple cardstock (it's hard to see in the photo) and you can read more about that experience at my blog!

Now it's your turn to take the Flower Challenge.  See all the details in August Challenge below.  And don't miss our "Pagerize This Challenge - details below.

And don't forget new DT member Ren-Yi is offering a 'participation blog candy' at her blog for those that participate in both this and the pagerize challenge. Remember to leave her a comment on how to get in touch with you."

August Challenge

Guest Design Team Member Malina submitted this single 12x12 page layout: Simply Divine for the August Flower Challenge. She said, I dressed up this layout of my daughter Taylor by using some of my favorite purchased flowers. I chose the butterfly for the center as a way to represent what is transpiring this year, the year of 13. Taylor has emerged into a beautiful young woman but also the butterfly is a subtle reminder of the short time she will stay with me, drying her wings, and then fly off on her own...Since it is divine though I needed to dress it all up with silver shimmer mist and Smooches on the butterfly's.

Now it's your turn to take the flower challenge. Just submit your flower project to scrappinpsycho@live.com. Your project will be posted here and you will be eligible to be chosen as a future Guest Design Team Member. See all the details in August Challenge below.

August Challenge

Friends by Karen

Reader Karen submitted this layout for the August Flower Challenge. She said, "Here is my layout using handmade flowers, and also a close up picture of the flowers. I used a tutorial for "box flowers" that I found on the Cosmo Cricket blog, and I've put a link on my blog . I did a few things differently from the tutorial: First, I freehand cut the circles (quicker and quirkier than using a punch or die). Second, I distressed the circles a bit before assembling them. Third, under the button I placed another distressed circle to cover the center and add a layer. Thanks for looking :) Karen"

Now it's your turn to take the August Flower Challenge - just send a picture and description of your flower project to
Scrappinpsycho@live.com. Your submission will be posted here, and you will be eligible to be chosen as a Guest Design Team Member for October.

August Challenge

Hey SOS readers, it's Brittney here! I love adding flowers on to my layouts, and lately I have been making a lot of them. They're definitely easy and cheaper than going out and purchasing some. Here's my layout and to make the flower I just used 2 circle punches (different sizes) and a brad (or in my case, an American Crafts button). For the base of the flower I used a 2.5" punch and for the petals I used a 2 1/8" punch.

And, here's a close-up of the flower:

August Challenge

Design Team Member Tere submitted this post for the August Flower Challenge.
Recently I did a tutorial for a Spanish Speaking Forum. I based it on a video tutorial presented by Hero Arts. Because the members of this forum are from different parts of the world, where scrapbooking supplies are very limited or very expensive; I had to adapt and change the materials used in the Hero Arts tutorial.

I translated the document to English to share with you. I love how the flowers turned out. They can be used for Home Decor, scrapbook layouts, cardmaking, etc.

Hope you like them, as much as I like making this tutorial.

This link will take you to the tutorial: Tissue Paper Flowers Tutorial

Now it's your turn to share your "flower" project. If you use any of the flowers
featured in any of the August Challenge posts - we'd love to see them. Please send a picture and description to Scrappinpsycho@live.com. Your entry will be posted here at Scrap Our Stash and you will be eligible to be chosen as a Guest Design Team Member for the month of October.
Also, don't miss out on the "Pagerize This" Challenge - see all the details below.

August Challenge - Get Well Wishes & Crochet Flowers

Have I mentioned how excited I am to start as a full-time Scrap our Stash DT Member? So much that I wanted to celebrate with you all and send out some candy to everyone that participates in both the August Flower challenge and the Pagerize This #1 challenge.

So, hurry off and go create something. If you need inspiration for the August Flower challenge, I suppose I could share something ;)

Get Well Wishes

This flower was made using a tutorial posted by Nichole Heady's blog. I have totally fallen in love with these flowers and as a crochet-avid love how simple these are. The DMC floss is also perfect, since they are cheap and vary in color. These flower embellishments can be simple or decadent, depending on how their centers are chosen.

Get Well Wishes

If you are curious about a supply list for this card, hop on over to my blog.

So, now it's your turn. Remember, if you enter both the August Flower challenge and the Pagerize This #1 challenge, I will send you a little surprise participation candy. Just leave me a comment on this blog post and how I can get in touch with you.

August Challenge - Ready To Bloom

Hello, Kimmarie posting here today! August challenge is to make your own flowers. Unfortunately, I was not able to post tutorial pictures but my flowers are easy peasy. My computer has a huge virus and is being repaired at Staples. Anyway, here is my layout titled: Ready To Bloom.
This is a picture of my 10yr old daughter, Victoria. She wasn't in the picture taking mood that day but I decided she still looked beautiful and this picture represents the "mood - ready to bloom" that she has been in for over a year now. kwim?! lol For picture taking purposes I put white paper behind my layout (that is not part of the layout).

My flowers were made using the Stampin' Up Scallop Punch. After punching the scalloped circles, I cut next to each scallop on a slight angle then inked the petals. I added a button to the center and there you go, instant flower. I learned this trick from my SU friend, Stasia while scrapping at her house one night.

Now it's your turn to share your layout with handmade flowers with the rest of us. Do you have a tutorial to go with it? Send it to scrappinpsycho@live.com and your layout will be featured on the Scrap Our Stash blog with a chance to win a GDT spot for October.

Check out our new "Pagerize This" Challenge. See all the details below in "Pagerize This"

August Challenge

Guest Team Member Malina subbmitted this layout for the August Flower Challenge. She said
"this is actually a 8x8 double layout. The layout comes from a very special & simple album comprised of letters & conversations to my daughter on her 13th birthday. The flower used is created using several 'Cricut' cut hearts from a Girl Scout Valentine's Day service project I taught.

Now it's your turn to take the August Flower Challenge. See all the details in August Challenge below. Also, don't miss the "Pagerize This" Challenge. All the details are below in "Pagerize This" below.

August Challenge

Design Team Member Amy submitted this layout for the August Flower Challenge. She said, "i have to admit i was a little stumped. I don't get many opportunities to use flowers on many of my scrapbooking projects. I am the oldest of three brothers and i have a son of my own, so flowers don't show up too often on my pages. So instead of doing a layout or card, i made myself some flowers for my scrap space!
I used October Afternoon's Thrift Shop line to make my flowers using my Cricut machine (accent's essentials cartridge). After i cut my flowers into different sizes, I embellished them with brads, gems, stickles, inks and buttons. Each flower is stapled to a pipe cleaner and then shoved into floral foam.
The "vase" is just an old soup can that i removed the label and recovered with scrapbook paper. It felt a little plain to me at first so i added a quote by Cathy Allen.

Now it's your turn to submit a flower challenge. See all the details in August Challenge below.

Frugal friday Tip- Bottle Cap Flowers

Design Team member Christy has shared this flower related Frugal Friday Tip. She said, "a little while back, my son got a kit about using bottle caps to make craft projects. You can make a lot of neat things with bottle caps. In this "capsters" craft kit, they placed images, beads and anything you could think of. This got me to thinking of all the ways I could use bottle caps in scrapbooking. If you don't have bottle caps at home, that's ok. Craft stores sell them just for this purpose. You can also go into a restaurant and ask for them from their bar. They are usually willing to oblige. Just make sure you wash them and dry them well!

So here is what you will need: bottle caps, glossy accents(or a similar product), scraps of ribbon or paper, beads or anything else you wish to put inside your bottle cap, adhesive( I prefer glue dots for this project). If you want a scalloped daisy style flower...you will need a template (or if paper a punch) for scallops.Otherwise, strips of paper work fine. You can also use ribbon, crepe paper, felt, cloth, etc. *note, stiff paper may be difficult to work with. try this with a lighter weight paper first. I used K and Company paper for my example.

To get started, cut your scalloped strip of paper. Place a glue dot on the bottom of the cap and then begin folding/pleating the paper as you wind your way around the bottom of the cap. Apply adhesive as you go to keep your pleats in place.

Once you are finished, pour beads into the bottle cap or place whatever item you wish to go there. Then, fill the cap with the glossy accents. You will want to fill the cap to the top. This will help reduce any sharp edges the camp may have. You will need to let it dry fully before using it on your page or card.

If you wish, you can use a strip of paper or ribbon in place of the scalloped paper. The same principle applies...just keep adding glue and folding the paper or ribbon as desired. A second "ring" or set of petals can be applied under the first if you want more dimension.

This is a great way to recycle while using up scraps. You end up with a very unique flower.

How fun is this. Why not try it on a project and share it with us here. We'd love to post it.
Do you have a frugal tip to share - send it to scrappinpsycho@live.com. You could be featured as a future Frugal Friday Tip.

August Challenge

Guest Design Team Member Malina submitted this layout for the August Flower Challenge. She said, "Inspiration can come from anywhere, especially when you are open to being inspired! My single page 12x12 layout, "Jack in the Garden" uses photos that I had planned for a different layout. It was my plan to read my now 3 1/2 year old son a few stories for bedtime, hope he fell asleep quickly and then get to my growing pile of projects for the night undisturbed. We read, "A Pocket Full of Kisses" (a follow up from "The Kissing Hand" and I strongly recommend both for anyone reading to children) and found the illustrations inspiring. To a little one the garden is full of surprises everywhere and this layout is not any different. The yellow flowers made of silk are adhered using eyelets (not something I ever did) and the butterfly and bee which literally pop off the page were cut from the "Tim Coffey" collection by K&Company. The little lady bugs are really antique hat pins that my local scrap-shop owner had brought home from a trip and only had a handful of...thank God I visit like every other day so I can see the new treasures she brings in, and usually buy. Perhaps the best surprise comes in the journaling and this is why I have submitted my layout photo with a split to show the journaling. There is a small light green leaf at the bottom of the tree hanging down to touch the photo. It actually has the word pull printed on it quite small. When you do pull down, a handmade journal tag drops down from behind the leaves and then smoothly slides back up to be hidden.

It was a very different type of page for my baby boy to be featured in and I appreciate the chance to share it with others through the Scrap Our Stash, August challenge which features flowers! The challenge is really inspiring my work this week, hopefully yours as well"!

August Challenge

Reader Tina submitted this layout for the August Flower Challenge. Here is her description:

I love this pic and have been wanting to highlight it on a page of its own for awhile. I scraplifted this design from a sketch in a card magazine, Card Maker 9/10, and adapted it to a 12x12 page. I dug out all my old MM patterned patterns in coordinating colors and punched and stacked them to make flowers. I love the tone on tone look I built here in green which really pops out the bright red of the flower, since they are opposing colors on the color wheel. I also decided to anchor the flowers with eyelets being that I have a million of them and I'm trying to use them up for a change.

Now it's your turn to take the Challenge. Your project could win you a spot on the October Guest Design Team - see all the details in August Challenge below.

August Challenge

Design Team Member Sara submitted this layout and tutorial for the August Flower Challenge. She said, "On this layout I created the peach flower and purple flower out of double stitched ribbon.
Here is the demo:
Selecte a wide double stitched ribbon and pick out 2 stitches from the
same side on both ends.
Pull the stitches and gather the ribbon to the middle so it scrunches
up.

Pull the ends as tight as you want and tie them and then cut off the
excess string.
Here is the end result! Embellish it up with a center and you have a
beautiful flower every time!
