December Birthday Challenge by Marilyn

Posted by PicasaFormer Guest Design Team Member Marilyn submitted this layout for the December Birthday Challenge.  Due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to get it posted until now.  Marilyn said, "This layout is using some old pictures. They aren't the greatest but it is a funny story. My husband & I both celebrate our birthdays in Dec. Every year, we host a table at the Annual Fair Hall Christmas Dance. It is a great party to share with a bunch of friends. Well, one year, Tom & I were thinking very much a like, evidently. We invited many of our friends to the dance. Then we BOTH went back and called everyone again to arrange a surprise birthday party for the other. All of our friends are great secret keepers because neither of us had any idea what the other was doing. We were pretty embarrassed but it was a great laugh, shared by all!! We have never tried to throw another surprise for the other since then...and I think we are both happy with that!"

Ice Cream Cake - Joni Dec

I made this layout using Bo Bunny Sunkissed papers and a "sheer" by KI Memories (along the right side).
I also cut out a little Spongebob logo from some packaging (underwear, I think..lol!!)
It was a big deal for my son to have an Ice Cream cake this year (don't know why?)..... so I wanted to be sure to document that.... so when he's older he can never say he didn't have one as a kid!!!

December Challenge by Missy

Design Team Member Missy submitted this layout for the December Birthday Challenge.  She said, "for this month's challenge, I made a layout for my oldest son's birthday. I had to work with very few photo's (I'm not sure why I had so few!) and most of them weren't ones that I really wanted to use. I picked the two best ones and barely cropped them to take up more space on my layout. I used some fabulous new paper from Echo Park, Little Boy. All of the paper is double sided.  I used both sides of all my paper. The circles are punched out and then cut in half to save paper. I fussy cut around some of the stars on the printed paper to use them as accents.

Here are the rest of the items that I used on my layout:
Cricut-Base Camp, Don Juan
Cuttlebug & embossing folder
iRock
Autumn Leaves stamp
EK Success Slim line punch
EK Success Circle punch

December Challenge and Frugal Friday Tip by Malina

Posted by PicasaDesign Team Member Malina submitted this card for the December Birthday Challenge.   She said, this project is a Birthday card I made for my son's birthday...I had never done anything of this sort before but I had lots of scraps of Birthday papers, stickers and embellies left from my daughter's birthday album and I had an image forming in my mind. It actually took several hours to do this because cards are not my thing especially when I am constructing from a fragment of an idea in my own mind with nothing to reference. This pop-up card stands over 7 inches tall and has a wide base to support it. I attempt to show three views of it and so the colors are varied as is the exposure but you can see the project quite well. I used thickers for his name and since I did not like the color of the thickers I had I altered with Stickles and then took the Stickles to the border. I used my Cricut to cut a 4 but handcut the stickers from the coordinating cardstock and then coupled with foam adhesive pop ups to create my own coordinating stickers.

That brings me to a Frugal Friday tip: It is simple to create your own epoxy stickers and 3-D stickers with a few items. Turn a tag, piece of cardstock pattern, die cut or anything else into a sticker. Using Glossy accents or Diamond Glaze cover the item for an epoxy look and use foam stickers to pop off the project. A 3-D effect is achieved when using 2 die cut shapes and raising one shape over the other with foam adhesives. OR use Glue Dots pop up dots...as the Glue Dots, these adhesives provide a super strong hold!

If you use this tip - and would like to share your page - just email it to Scrappinpsycho@live.com.  We will post it here.  Do you have a frugal tip you'd like to share?  Send it along with a picture to scrappinpsycho@live.com and you could be featured for a future Frugal Friday tips.

December Challenge by Kimmarie

Posted by PicasaHi  Design Team Member Kimmarie here! I have been MIA for quite some time now and I missed everyone and SOS. I am now back in full crafting swing and I am looking forward to monthly challenges once again. Today I am sharing a few pages from a clear mini album that I made for my daughter's 7th birthday. I am usually the type of person that does not always like the way my projects turn out. This one is an exception. I was so happy with the way the pages look with the paper, embellies and paint showing through on both sides. This album was super easy and a bunch of fun to create. If you have never done a clear album before, get one and get busy.... I promise you will love it!

December Challenge by Mary Pat

Posted by PicasaFuture Design Team Member Mary Pat submitted this layout for the December Birthday Challenge.  She said, " I loved this month's challenge because I finally finshed Jack's 5th birthday pictures! Once again I used the Imaginisce Birthday Bash. I just loved all the colors and designs. With this layout I didn't want a lot of embellishments. I wanted the main focus to be on Jack. He was really thinking about the wish he was making. The look on his face is priceless. I also loved layering all the differnt pattern papers. I love that layered look especially when everything coordinates. The embellishments are very simple. I had a little tag in the right corner that says "make a wish". Very simple! Sometimes it is the little things that make the layout!

December Challenge - by Ren-Yi

Design Team Member Ren-Yi submitted this card for the December Birthday Challenge.  She said, "the current Scrap Our Stash December Challenge is near and dear to my heart. It is through this wonderful group that I got my first "recognition" for anything crafty and dear Kathy gave me a chance to be a Guest Designer. And now I have been on this team with a bunch of talented, fun and caring ladies - it's been an amazing journey thus far.

So when this month's challenge is in honor of Scrap Our Stash turning the big ONE, I thought what better then to post a birthday project that I had not shared with you.

This birthday project was actually a CASE study on Claire's really creative work. I fell in love with her boat, so when a friend had a birthday coming up, I knew that the perfect gift was going to be a gift card for a day's worth of sailing. He has picked up sailing as a hobby this year and went to sailing school to get his license. What I love most about this friend is that when he says he wants to learn sailing, he'll actually follow through and go get that sailing license. The only sad thing is we were not sure where he goes sailing, so we could not gift him a gift card. Instead we had to give him his sailing trip in the form of cold, hard cash. I hope, he didn't mind.

Happy Birthday, Sailor Boy

Here another up-close look at the captain's face. It really looks like my friend ;)

Happy Birthday, Sailor Boy

You still have time to throw something birthday-like into the December Birthday Challenge. Perhaps you'll be picked as the next Guest Designer?  See all the details on how to submit your Birthday project in December Challenge below.

And don't miss our fun Pagerize This Challenge that is going on right now also.  You can see all the details in Pagerize This Challenge #5 below.

December Challenge by Joni

Hi...Joni here again!!  You know, I wanted to share on of my favorite things that I TRY to remember to do every year before my son's Birthday.... On the DAY BEFORE his birthday, I try to have a little quick photo shoot... (This year, I actually remembered right at bedtime..so he's even in his PJ's)...      Then I do a layout called "Last Day of xx"...  So I've done this twice this year...Once just for the challenge here... I used Sassafras Count me In line and since the papers were a strange color (well, strange for me/pastelly...), I opted for a black & white photo.   Since my son's birthday was back in September, I'd actually already done this layout once (using a diff photo from the same night), but used a slightly different title.....but I'll share it here too, if you don't mind (I used a sketch from Sketch Savvy). --

So, my subtle advice.... remember those "pre-b-day" photos..  they're fun to scrap ..(oh...especially "last day of 1" or "last day of terrible 2"...)   Enjoy!!!

Now it's your turn to take the Birthday Challenge.  See all the details in December Challenge below.

December Challenge By Christy

Design Team Member Christy submitted this layout for the December Birthday Challenge.  She said, "Holidays and birthdays are often about the giving and receiving of gifts. For me, the best gift of all (and the true meaning of each celebration) is the warm, happy feeling I get from giving the gift. My son's birthday is no exception to that.

This is actually the title page for the layout I did recently in the Pagerize challenge. I used the rest of the My Mind's eye complete boy patterned paper sheet here as well as more of the Making Memories Just Chillin' Boys die cuts and trims. I used My Tim Holtz embossing folder, but instead of the whole sheet, I cut a star and a crown from it. They make nice accents at the top. I hand stitched around the star to make it pop out a bit more. I cut the K and Co. border into strips, using 3-d adhesive on sections of it for more dimension. You may be wondering about the little frame on the photo. Well, I just had to highlight my husband sitting there smiling.

You see, he also enjoys giving gifts to our son. You'll have to pardon the photo. One of my New year's resolutions is to learn to be a better photographer and to improve my photo editing. When I originally shot these photos, I was focusing on my son and not what was going on in the background. When I later saw my husband sitting there smiling, I knew this was one of those instances in which the background was really important to the story. I edited the photo as best I could, but as you can see, the lighting still hides my husband a bit. I chose the frame to draw more attention to him.

I hope you'll share your birthday celebration layouts with us here at Scrap Our Stash. I know I can certainly use some heartwarming cheer during these cold days of December!

December Challenge by Stacy H-W

Design Team Member Stacy submitted this layout for the December Birthday Challenge.  She said, "This was a special, fun challenge for me.

My layout is of my dd on her first birthday. It was extra special to us because we adopted her from Taiwan and this is the exact day we were able to go there and get her. It was her 1st birthday and her "Gotcha Day".

We were so lucky that another family was there and took these great pictures of our family and shared them with us.

The nannies at St. Lucy Center had gotten a cake for her and the other kids that had birthday's that month. They put out boiled eggs and tomatoes too.

It was a wonderful day for my husband and I and an overwhelming one for my daughter. She is now 8 and really happy with this layout!

December Challenge by Wendy

Design Team Member Wendy submitted this layout for the December Birthday Challenge.

Layout with flaps closed (=Christmas theme).
The green papers are in the side flip flaps:

Layout with flap on each side open (=Birthday layout):

For this layout I knew what I wanted to do but it involved a lot of thinking and planning to actually get it done. Since our party was a combination of Christmas and birthday, I used that idea to create this layout. With these new Flip Flaps from Close to My Heart I was able to expand my layout and add many more photos than a normal 2-page spread. First, I chose papers that I could use as both a Christmas and Birthday themed page. Next I laid out the pages and protectors I planned to use. This allowed me to arrange the photos on my spread. This was the hardest part. I didn't do much for paper layering because of the planning involved so the rest of the assembly was just pictures and embellishments. On the birthday section, I cut out one of the stars from the pattern paper so it would overlap my photo and become an embellishment for my page, then added star gems to the centers.

You can visit My Scrapbooking Blog for more details.

December Challenge by Sue

Posted by PicasaReader Sue submitted this layout for the December Birthday Challenge.  She said, "Hello!  This is my first submission, but I've been following your site for awhile now.

Here is my layout about my 50th birthday this past July. I actually
celebrate a birthmonth, which means using the entire month to party, dine out and just generally pamper myself. So my actual birthday can be pretty quiet, which is fine with me.

The journaling reads:
Phone calls from family...flowers from Phil...lunch in Depot Town...an evening at Comerica Park...a perfect 50th birthday.

Thanks for considering my layout in your monthly challenge!

December Challenge by Mary Pat

Reader Mary Pat submitted this layout for the December Birthday Challenge.  She said, "here is my first entry "It's Party Time"

This is my son's 5th Birthday party. We had a small little party with a couple of firends and family. The theme was Transformers. The kids had so much fun with the Transformer Piñata.

In the pictures I have Jack opening his presents and the boys pulling the strings of the piñata. I used the the Imaginisce Birthday Bash line. I love this line with the the bright colors mixing with the brown tones. I also love the embellishments which all match the paper.

I may submit another layout for this month's challenge because both my boys have fall birthdays and I am trying to get them all done before the holidays!"

December Challenge by Amy

Design Team Member Amy submitted this layout for the December Birthday Challenge. She said, this challenge really kicked me into high gear. My son will be three in about 9 weeks and i have not scrapbooked his 2nd birthday yet! yikes! So, here's the start of many more pages....
For his second birthday we had a "pirate" theme. I ended up getting these pirates masks for super cheap, and it was so fun to see everyone wearing their masks. Even my son's great-grandma wore one! This layout was super easy and quick. I already had my pictures sized to 2x2 (i did it in photoshop and then had them printed onto two 4x6 prints). Next, i matted my photos and distressed the edges with ink. My embellishments were part of the party decorations. I used Thickers for my title and for each person's name.
Now it's your turn to take the Challenge - see all the details in the December Challenge post below. And how about taking the Pagerize This Challenge too (details below).
And don't miss your chance to apply for our Design Team Call - details in the sidebar.

December Challenge by Libeeti

Design Team Member Libeeti submitted the following layout for the December Birthday Challenge.  She said, "These photos are from my youngest boy's 2nd  Birthday Party at the daycare. I used DCWV cs, dp for the basis (I don't know the manufacturer, I got it as gift), K&Co. dp for the matting, and some stickers from my stash.

The English letters are rub-ons and the Hebrew letters are an Israeli product bought at Mastikim.
