Here's my take of this months challenge with the theme: "Take a leap".If you have seen my projects I try to cut everything in squares or neat circles so taking this class with Ingvild Bolme at Prima really meant taking a leap for me; I had to tear the beautiful papers and "destroy" my photo and
soforth! But I liked trying something new!

February Leap Challenge by Elizabeth

I took several leaps in the making of this layout. I leapt into a book on scrapbooking, The Busy Scrapper by Courtney Walsh, which I treated myself to last year, looking for inspiration and found a simple layout that I thought would be quick and easy to use. Then I leapt again, this time into my boxes of unused stash and found this brilliant sheet of design paper. The colours include black and red which mirror the colours in the photographs I'd chosen to scrap. After that the supplies needed came together very quickly. Another leap into my snippets/leftovers stash brought together the bits of black and red card with the red spotty piece and the scrap that looks like a piece of lined notebook paper. And another leap ... the photographs were taken in a leap year, although I may have the details slightly wrong. My DH thinks that these photos were taken, not on Hogmanay, as I thought, but in the very early hours of New Year's day, 2008, therefore the date on the journal note should read 1 January 2008. And the Hogmanay in question would have been 31 December 2007! He could very well be right but I'm not changing the date now - at least I got something right, the photographs were the first taken of us, with our friends, in a leap year :)

Hi everyone!! 

Stacy here to share with you my February LEAP challenge project.  I actually struggled with this challenge.  I couldn't think what to do and then as I was looking through my stash for paper to use I had an epiphany!! lol  I would be very literal and do a layout featuring my daughter who is a cheerleader.  Cheerleaders leap right?!?  lol


These photos were taken on the day her school held a charity event.  They had a Fun Run and a pancake breakfast to raise money for their school.  Her squad was happy to show up and cheer.  They got everyone enthused about the event and the Run.  And not only did she cheer before but she did the Run too!!  I'm very proud of her.


I used paper and embellies from the I love cheer leading kit from The Paper Studio.  Pretty much everything on the layout was in the awesome kit.  Notice the "leaping" cheerleader!! lol

I decided to take a leap and scrap my sewing machine to inspire me to use it more ofter. I used a lot of bright green colors and tried to use a
different technique as to how I sprayed the mist.

I find it a challenging color. I took a leap and tried to coordinate
Red in my lo . In the lo I used my red copic markers.


Boat
This lo is of a boat my son and his girlfriend saw in Cuba. I usually try and create a different title for my lo’s. Here I took a leap and designed the lo so that my title had a different look to it arranging it in different ways.

February Leap Challenge by Christy

Since the theme this month at Scrap Our Stash is all about taking a leap (and this is a Leap Year), I thought I would share something that I just ventured into. I never thought I would try Project Life. It seemed like a daunting task to add it to my long list of photos that I want to scrap. During the past month, I have been reading various designer blogs and admiring all of the neat little pockets and pages filled with  journal cards,photos, mementos and memories. I finally decided to take the leap and try out Project Life sometime in mid-January. I am not using it in place of my scrapbook pages, but rather, as a way to introduce and supplement each month. So the plan is to make the PL pages for each month, then later on, print out the best photos for the month so I can scrapbook those stories in more detail.

So now that I had decided to begin project life, I was faced with the decision of what products I would use. Buying a project life kit was not an option for my budget. I can see how it would have made things a whole lot easier for me, but well...maybe next year. I was happy to find that I had a whole set of  those divided page protectors in one of my albums. I had always struggled to use them with my regular pages. So now, I am happy they will get some use. I decided that, for the cards, I would cut my own from my stash. Each month, I will make a kit from my stash of supplies. It might take me a little more time than reaching for an item from a pre-made kit, but it will sure be fun.

 Though I may have gotten a late start, I am not too far behind. I have my title page and the first page for January. My PL pages will be more about monthly happenings rather than weekly ones. So I think it will be easy to complete each month.  I always like to make an introductory page for each album. However, finding the right photo for those can be a struggle. The PL pages will be a nice substitute and an easy way to divide up my albums in a way that makes sense. Hopefully, this will translate to more pages and more stories to be shared in my albums.

February LEAP Challenge by Elizabeth

The shabby chic style is one I’ve seen and admired for a long time but never had the courage to try creating myself. I’ve had this beautiful sheet of design paper, maker unknown, in my stash for about two years and, as I am determined to buy no new items until I’ve used up a goodly amount of what I already have. After all, I bought all these beautiful papers because I loved them and couldn’t resist them ... they should be used. Because, I’m experimenting I thought I’d try the shabby chic treatment on an 8” card first, before I commit to a 12” layout. I covered the front of the pretty shaped card with the paper and then trimmed round it before sponging the edges with Tim Holtz Old Paper distress ink to give it an aged look. The toppers are in a vintage style too – the postcard stamp is one of the images, from Crafty Individuals, I water-coloured whilst in Wales on holiday this summer – and the beautiful lady is from a collage sheet from Made By Janet. I distressed the edges of the toppers with scissors before sponging with the distress ink too. All the embellishments came from stash too - the flowers and leaves, a mix of Prima and Wild Orchid Crafts, were smeared with clear gloss finish and dipped in iridescent glitter before arranging on the card. So, despite not being too sure I could make something in this style, I’m actually happy with the finished project. It’s pretty and feminine, which is what I was aiming for.

February LEAP Challenge by Wendy K.

I have so many projects that are sitting around waiting for me to find the time to do them.  This challenge motivated me to LEAP into one of those and get it done!  I bought these letters who knows how long ago for my craft room.  I know it was over 1 1/2 years because they came with the move.  They were lots of fun to make once I got started.  All the extras are cut with the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge exclusively by Close to My Heart.  This is my absolute favorite cart!  I started the project at a friend's house and when I told her how I was going to embellish them she suggested the Cricut-cut flowers and I knew that's what I wanted to do.  I find they are too thick for my scrapbook pages but they are sooooo pretty!  And perfect for this project!  For full details, visit My Scrapbooking Blog.

When asked to do a "Leap" themed layout, I took the challenge literally and these photos of my oldest child Wyatt instantly came to mind. Close to our house is a gravel pit way back in the woods. It was Wyatt's most favorite place to go this last summer! Along with his brother Gunner (and me pregnant with my daughter Aspen), we would take the four wheeler out there and he just had the greatest time throwing rocks in the water and climbing on the big boulders to see if he was daring enough to jump off of them :). I also took a personal "leap" and allowed the focus of this layout to be on the photos, rather than the embellishments (I generally cram quite a bit of product onto a page...). I used the beautiful "Memoir" collection from Studio Calico. The colors fit so perfectly with my photos.

I chose to play Leap frog with the February challenge. I took my grandchildren to the "Toadily Frogs" exhibit at the college museum in town. These photos of my grandson trying to imitate a frog were so cute and perfect for this challenge. I started with a piece of Leapfrog Bazzill cardstock, added some Basic Grey originals pattern paper, sugar pea; and Bo Bunny wasabi dot. I also used Rock-a-bye thickers and making memory stickers for my title. I added some frog stickers by EK success and used misc buttons and rick rack to complete this darling page of green and frogs.

Here is my entry for the Pagerize #18 challenge. Pardon the ebonics in the title. I used Echo Park Life is Good papers and some extra stuff on this one. This is going in my Book of Me: it's just another example of people getting my name wrong. VERY wrong. The journaling reads: I gave the security guard my driver's license and this is the name he got from it. ??? The last name is close but where did "Angela" come from? It never fails to amaze me how people botch such a simple first name. I knew I had to document this.

February LEAP Challenge by Jean

Guest Design Team Member Jean submitted this project for the February LEAP Challenge.  She said:

I’ve been promising myself I would document my Christian journey and Confirmation and finally had the inspiration to do it when Kathy over at SOS asked me to be Guest Designer for February. Our word this month (as it’s leap year) is to create something around the word LEAP. I had saved a little advertising booklet, (I save them all as they make the basis for great mini books.) This one was from a Garden Centre and was a perfect A4 folded size.


I measured, cut and covered a sheet of cardboard to wrap around the booklet, making sure I made it ¼ “ bigger all round. I used the Basic Grey Indian Summer papers as I love their rich colours and detailed patterns.


I used the die-cut stickers from the pack to arrange a small scene on white gloss paper (a cut off from printing a photo) I fussy cut around the edge of the scene then backed it with black paper and cut around that too. I cut a heart from some corrugated card and coloured it with Dylusions spray ink in worn leather.


I arranged the die-cut words LEAP and FAITH onto some black gloss card, cut them and stuck on the front page together with the other words. All the letters were from the diecut sticker sheet with the pack. I used a piece of handmade embroidered tissue to decorate the fold. A piece of wide ribbon was sandwiched between the front cover pages.


The inside pages of the book were then covered with a selection of papers which echoed the colours in the front paper.


I shall enjoy adding all my documents and shall be writing about my journey on some of the pages.

There are two things that you need to know about me. 1. I am a compulsive purchaser so when I see something I like I can't stop thinking about it until I have bought it. and 2. I am a huge fan of Teresa Collins! How does this apply to my layout? Well for over 12 months now I have had some of her paper collections sitting in the scrap room waiting to be used. Perfect candidates for Scrap Our Stash! When I saw the challenge for Take a Leap I thought I'd do a layout on me and my plans for the year. And I thought what a good time to get some of my Teresa Collins papers out!  I decided to use this photo as it has a certain feeling. It's like I'm challenging myself. So it works well with my 'Taking the leap' page. If you have a close look at the top of the photo spot you'll see the hidden tags that I put together. I added them so that you can relate the theme to my page and also because it's my promise to myself to take the leap. To challenge myself to go beyond my comfort zone, beyond my limits and to learn as much as possible this year.

I took a big leap with my project this month. I decided to make my own mini book using my Cinch for the first time. We won a trip to Las Vegas back in November of 2011, and I took a ton of photos as you can imagine.  Here is one that I just did  a couple of weeks ago and although it is a Christmas subject, I feel it has a lot of potential for Pagerizing!  I used some old pattern paper from my stash that isn't marked, manufacturer unknown and I can't remember if the die cuts are Creative imaginations or something like that.  I tried to search it but ran out of time.  It was a pretty quick and easy layout.  I used my son's Christmas card for the main focus.  I am excited to see what others can create with this!!

This month's challenge was to "Take a Leap". I decided to use this photo of my daughter and her husband taken at zoo lights in Calgary. I leaped out of my box and used the color "red". I misted and distressed and misted again trying to come up with the right colors. I also took a "leap" and used a brand new paper line that I have never used before called Canvas Corp. Each Month on the 15th, we post a new layout for you to "pagerize" (Plagerize,copy,lift, steal) whatever term you want to use. The idea will be- to use the posted layout as your inspriation to create your own layout. You can "pagerize"as much or as little of the original layout as you choose. you may want to make a layout like the one just posted-or you may just want to use something about the layout as your inspiration.


  Here is Tamara's layout for  Pagerize this #18. Tamara said:

 Here is one that I just did  a couple of weeks ago and although it is a Christmas subject, I feel it has a lot of potential for Pagerizing!  I used some old pattern paper from my stash that isn't marked, manufacturer unknown and I can't remember if the die cuts are Creative imaginations or something like that.  I tried to search it but ran out of time.  It was a pretty quick and easy layout.  I used my son's Christmas card for the main focus.  I am excited to see what others can create with this!!

All entries will be posted here at Scrap our Stash. this challenge runs through midnight central time on February 12th. The pagerizer ( in this case, Tamara), will then choose a winner from all of the entries. The winner will be announced on February 14th. then the winner will be asked to submit a layout for us to "pagerize" starting on the 15th of February.

February LEAP Challenge by Karen

Design Team Member Karen submitted this layout for the February LEAP Challenge. She said:


I've been a little bit literal with the challenge this month and used some photos of Nancy on the bouncy castle at my Sister's wedding (hence the inappropriate dress)


I used a barcode strip to underline the title and that's where I used the word leap to fit with the challenge.


Now it's your turn to take the February LEAP Challenge. The February Challenge is anything to do with LEAP - it could be a Leap you've taken in buying or using a new tool, a new product, a new technique, or your project could have somehing to do with your taking a leap.
